완두유묘조직중(豌豆幼苗組織中) 탄소 - 14의 절대방사능 신속측정법
박창규,Kendall, F H,Mer, C L 한국농화학회 1975 Applied Biological Chemistry (Appl Biol Chem) Vol.18 No.2
A rapid method for the measurement of the absolute activity of carbon-14 in cotyledons and root of etiolated pea seedlings has been developed. Fresh tissue was frozen in liquid air, ground and suspended in gel phosphor and subjected to measurement for its radioactivity by liquid scintillation counter. Apparent activity of the suspended tissue sample calculated by counting efficiency value obtained by internal standardisation, was found to be related to absolute activity of the tissue, determined by flask combustion technique, by a constant factor. Once this factor is determined experimentally, analysis of C-14 lebelled tissue involves only fairly simple suspension counting by liquid scintillation counter. Present method appears to be applicable to other plant tissues tagged with C-14.

<P>The editors introduce the focus issue on 'Advanced Solid-State Lasers (ASSL) 2014,'which is based on the topics presented at a congress of the same name held in Shanghai, China, from October 27 to November 1, 2014. This Focus issue, jointly prepared by Optics Express and Optical Materials Express, includes 28 contributed papers (21 for Optics Express and 7 for Optical Materials Express) selected from the voluntary submissions by attendees who presented at the congress and have extended their work into complete research articles. We hope this focus issue offers a useful snapshot of the variety of topical discussions held at the congress and will contribute to the further expansion of the associated research areas. Purpose: Calprotectin is a cytosolic protein with immunomodulatory, antimicrobial, and antiproliferative actions. The concentration of calprotectin increases in infection, inflammation, and malignancy. We determined if calprotectin can be used as a marker for the diagnosis and follow-up of bowel inflammation in cow’s milk protein allergy (CMPA). Methods: In total, 32 patients newly diagnosed with CMPA were included (24 IgE-mediated, 8 non-IgE-mediated). In all subjects, a complete blood count, total IgE, cow’s milk-specific IgE, and fecal calprotectin (FC) were assessed before and after a cow’s milk protein (CMP) elimination diet was started. The results were compared with those of 39 healthy children. Results: The mean FC value before the CMP elimination diet was 516±311 μg/g in the 32 patients with CMPA and 296±94 μg/g in the control group (P=0.011). The mean FC value after the diet in these patients was 254±169 μg/g, which was significantly different from the mean value before the CMP elimination diet (P<0.001). When we compared FC levels before the CMP elimination diet in the IgE-mediated group with the control group, we found no significant statistical difference (P=0.142). The mean FC value before the CMP elimination diet was 886±278 μg/g in the non-IgE-mediated group and 296±94 μg/g in the control group; this difference was statistically significant (P<0.001). In the IgE-mediated and non-IgE-mediated groups, FC values after CMP elimination diet were 218±90 μg/g and 359±288 μg/g, respectively, and FC values before CMP elimination diet were 392±209 μg/g and 886±278 μg/g, respectively; these differences were statistically significant (P=0.001 and P=0.025, respectively). Conclusions: FC levels may be a useful marker for follow-up treatment and recurrence determination in CMPA.
Structural glass panels: An integrated system

In building envelope, transparent components play an important role. The structural glazing systems are the weak element of the casing in terms of mechanical resistance, thermal and acoustic insulation. In the present work, new structural glass panels with granular aerogel in interspace were investigated from different points of view. In particular, the mechanical characterization was carried out in order to assess the resistance to bending of the single glazing pane. To this end, a special instrument system was built to define an alternative configuration of the coaxial double ring test, able to predict the fracture strength of glass large samples (400 × 400 mm) without overpressure. The thermal and lighting performance of an innovative double-glazing facade with granular aerogel was evaluated. An experimental campaign at pilot scale was developed: it is composed of two boxes of about 1.60 × 2 m2 and 2 m high together with an external weather station. The rooms, identical in terms of size, construction materials, and orientation, are equipped with a two-wing window in the south wall surface: the first one has a standard glazing solution (double glazing with air in interspace), the second room is equipped with the innovative double-glazing system with aerogel. The indoor mean air temperature and the surface temperature of the glass panes were monitored together with the illuminance data for the lighting characterization. Finally, a brief energy characterization of the performance of the material was carried out by means of dynamic simulation models when the proposed solution is applied to real case studies.
