        Analysis of KAP1 expression patterns and human endogenous retrovirus Env proteins in ovarian cancer

        Background Human endogenous retroviruses (HERVs) constitute around 8% of the human genome and have important roles in human health and disease, including cancers. Previous studies showed that HERV envelope (Env) proteins are highly expressed in cancer tissues and co-related with cancer progression. KAP1 has been reported to play a key role in regulating retrotransposons, including HERV-K, through epigenetic silencing. Objective The relationship between KAP-1 and HERV Envs expressions was analyzed only in tumor cell lines and has not yet been studied in cancer tissues. In this study, we analyzed the expression patterns and relationship between KAP1 and HERV Env proteins in ovarian cancer tissues. Method The expression patterns of KAP-1 and HERV Env proteins, including HERV-K and HERV-R, were analyzed in ovarian cancer tissue microarrays that contained 80 surgical specimens, including normal ovary and malignant ovarian cancers. Results The expression of HERV-R Env and KAP1 proteins is signifcantly higher in ovarian cancer compared with normal ovary tissues. However, the expression of HERV-K Env did not change signifcantly in cancer tissues. The expression patterns of HERV-K Env and HERV-R Env signifcantly increased in early stages of cancer and KAP1 expression was higher in certain stage and types of cancers. However, the expression of HERV-K Env, HERV-R Env, and KAP1 did not change in diferent age groups. The correlation between the expression of KAP1 and HERV-Env, including HERV-K and HERV-R, was not signifcantly correlated. Conclusions The results of this study showed that there was no signifcant correlation between the expression of KAP1 and HERV Env proteins in ovarian cancer tissues, unlike studies with cell lines in vitro. These results suggest that the actual expression of HERV Env proteins in ovarian cancer tissues may be regulated through various complex factors as well as KAP1.

      • 울산지역의 노인산업 활성화를 위한 의생활 실태 조사

        이 논문은 노인들의 의생활에 관한 실태를 조사하여 울산의 노인산업활성화를 위한 기초 자료를 제시하기 위해 수행되었다. 설문지를 통한 방법을 사용하였으며 조사대상자는60세 이상의 낭녀 노인 401명이다. 자료는 SPSS를 이용하여 분석하였다. 연구결과 노인들은 의복에 관심을 갖고 있었으며 의복이 자신의 이미지를 반영한다고 생각하였다. 그들은 주로 실제적인 이유로 의복을 구입하였으며 옷의 맞음새가 문제가 되는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 의복의 구매장소, 의복 선호 및 옷이 맞지 않는 부위 등 다수의 문항에서 남녀간에 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 이는 노인의 특수성을 고려함과 동시에 남녀간의 특성 차이를 반영한 의복의 개발 및 마케팅 전략이 필요함을 의미한다. The purposes of the study were to investigate the actual state and needs of clothing, for the elderly and to provide basic information for the future silver industry in Ulsan. The sample of this survey consists of 401 males and females aged 60 and over. The data were analyzed by using SPSS. The major findings are as follows: The elderly were interested in their clothes and they thought that clothes should reflect their image. Price was the major consideration when buying clothes. They bought their clothes for practical reason, and fitting problem was the most important factor In purchase of clothing. And the significant differences between males and females were revealed in several variables like purchasing place, clothing preference, fitting problem and so on. This suggests that the development and marketing strategy of clothing should be emphasized on the needs and preferences for the elderly and should take more considerations of the differences between male and female.

        압입유동특성 평가를 위한 진변형률 정의에 관한 고찰

        Continuous indentation test is getting more used to derive indentation flow curve. The overall deriving algorithm is relatively well-established, the details of the algorithm are, however, still argued. One of the arguments is the definition of true strain which constitutes the indentation flow curve. In this study, work-hardening exponent was adopted for determining what definition is appropriate to obtain accurate indentation flow curve since work-hardening exponent is affected by only the definition of true strain not by other constants. The effect of calibrating contact depth was eliminated using finite element analysis. Finally, the definition based on tangent function was determined to be proper for deriving the indentation flow curve. (Received September 8, 2004)

      • 당화과정 중 백미와 현미 식혜의 성분 및 형태 변화

        The amylase activity of milled rice and brown rice sikhe were decreased as saccharification time was processed during saccharification. Brix of sikhe made of milled rice increased from 3.6˚to 10.8˚after saccharification for 8 hrs. and that of sikhe made of brown rice increased from 3.6˚to 9.7˚after saccharification for 10 hrs. The sikhe saccharified at 60˚C for 8 and 10 hrs. showed that total sugar was increased from 4.90 to 9.07% in milled rice, from 2.62 to 8.11% in brown rice and reducing sugar was increased from 3.58 to 7.71% in milled rice, from 1.83 to 7.34% in brown rice. But pH of sikhe juicy was decreased gradually according to time increase and then little changed after 4 hrs. SEM and TEM clearly showed that the starch granule were disappeared from endosperm cell leaving cellular materials. Changes of components and morphology of milled rice sikhe was processed quickly more than that of brown rice about 2 hrs.

        본 연구는 상표자산의 구성요소에 대한 선행요인을 분석하고 이를 토대로 하여 상표자산 구성요소와 상표자산 영향요인간의 관계 그리고 상표자산 구성요소와 구매의도간의 관계를 규명하고 한국과 영국을 중심으로 비교하여 상표자산관리 방안을 도출해보고자 하였다 연구결과, 정보탐색은 제품지식에 정(+)의 영향을 미치며, 상표태도와 상표지식은 상표 충성도와 상표 가치에 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다 그리고 상표충성도와 상표가치는 구매의도에 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 정보원천의 경우, 한국에서는 제품지식에 정(+)의 영향을 미치고 있는 반면, 영국에서는 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. Brand equity is one of the most important concepts in business practice as well as in academic research. Successful brands can allow marketers to gain competitive advantage (Lassar et al.,1995), including the opportunity for successful extensions, resilience against competitors' promotional pressures, and the ability to create barriers to competitive entry (Farquhar, 1989). Branding plays a special role in service firms because strong brands increase trust in intangible products (Berry, 2000), enabling customers to better visualize and understand them. They reduce customers' perceived monetary, social, and safety risks in buying services, which are obstacles to evaluating a service correctly before purchase. Also, a high level of brand equity increases consumer satisfaction, repurchasing intent, and degree of loyalty. Brand equity can be considered as a mixture that includes both financial assets and relationships. Actually, brand equity can be viewed as the value added to the product (Keller, 1993), or the perceived value of the product in consumers' minds. Mahajan et al. (1990) claim that customer-based brand equity can be measured by the level of consumers’ perceptions. Several researchers discuss brand equity based on two dimensions: consumer perception and consumer behavior. Aaker (1991) suggests measuring brand equity through price premium, loyalty, perceived quality, and brand associations. Viewing brand equity as the consumer’s behavior toward a brand, Keller (1993) proposes similar dimensions: brand awareness and brand knowledge. Thus, past studies tend to identify brand equity as a multidimensional construct consisted of brand loyalty, brand awareness, brand knowledge, customer satisfaction, perceived equity, brand associations, and other proprietary assets (Aaker, 1991, 1996; Blackston, 1995; Cobb-Walgren et al., 1995; Na, 1995). Other studies tend to regard brand equity and other brand assets, such as brand knowledge, brand awareness, brand image, brand loyalty, perceived quality, and so on, as independent but related constructs (Keller, 1993; Kirmani and Zeithaml, 1993). Walters(1978) defined information search as, "A psychological or physical action a consumer takes in order to acquire information about a product or store." But, each consumer has different methods for informationsearch. There are two methods of information search, internal and external search. Internal search is, "Search of information already saved in the memory of the individual consumer"(Engel, Blackwell, 1982) which is, "memory of a previous purchase experience or information from a previous search."(Beales, Mazis, Salop, and Staelin, 1981). External search is "A completely voluntary decision made in order to obtain new information"(Engel & Blackwell, 1982) which is, "Actions of a consumer to acquire necessary information by such methods as intentionally exposing oneself to advertisements, taking to friends or family or visiting a store."(Beales, Mazis, Salop, and Staelin, 1981). There are many sources for consumers’ information search including advertisement sources such as the internet, radio, television, newspapers and magazines, information supplied by businesses such as sales people, packaging and in-store information, consumer sources such as family, friends and colleagues, and mass media sources such as consumer protection agencies, government agencies and mass media sources. Understanding consumers’ purchasing behavior is a key factor of a firm to attract and retain customers and improving the firm’s prospects for survival and growth, and enhancing shareholder’s value. Therefore, marketers should understand consumer as individual and market segment. One theory of consumer behavior supports the belief that individuals are rational. Individuals think and move through stages when making a purchase decision. This means that rational thinkers have led to the identification of a consumer buying decision process. This decision process with its different levels of involvement and influencing factors has been widely accepted and is fundamental to the understanding purchase intention represent to what consumers think they will buy. Brand equity is not only companies but also very important asset more than product itself. This paper studies brand equity model and influencing factors including information process such as information searching and information resources in the fashion market in Asia and Europe. Information searching and information resources are influencing brand knowledge that influences consumers purchase decision. Nine research hypotheses are drawn to test the relationships among antecedents of brand equity and purchase intention and relationships among brand knowledge, brand value, brand attitude, and brand loyalty. H1. Information searching influences brand knowledge positively. H2. Information sources influence brand knowledge positively. H3. Brand knowledge influences brand attitude. H4. Brand knowledge influences brand value. H5. Brand attitude influences brand loyalty. H6. Brand attitude influences brand value. H7. Brand loyalty influences purchase intention. H8. Brand value influence purchase intention. H9. There will be the same research model in Asia and Europe. We performed structural equation model analysis in order to test hypotheses suggested in this study. The model fitting index of the research model in Asia was X2=195.19(p=0.0), NFI=0.90, NNFI=0.87, CFI=0.90, GFI=0.90, RMR=0.083, AGFI=0.85, which means the model fitting of the model is good enough. In Europe, it was X2=133.25(p=0.0), NFI=0.81, NNFI=0.85, CFI=0.89, GFI=0.90, RMR=0.073, AGFI=0.85, which means the model fitting of the model is good enough. From the test results, hypotheses were accepted. All of these hypotheses except one are supported. In Europe, information search is not an antecedent of brand knowledge.         In present study, we fractionated polysaccharides from Croton tiglium and investigated their hepatoprotective effects on CCI₄ intoxication. Polysaccharide fraction of which molecular weight is over 300,000(HP) showed the most potent hepatoprotective effects on CC1₄ intoxication. Lipid peroxidation, BAST and sALT were used as parameters to evaluate the liver damage. Glucose, xylose and arabinose were found to be monosaccharides composing sugar moiety of HP.

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the patterns of the health related variables, and physical characteristics and physical fitness of the elderly people in order to provide a exercise program. The data about the health related variables were collected through the personal interview, and the data about physical charateristics and physical fitness (height, weight, % body fat, blood pressure, pulse rate, grip stength, trunk flexion, side step test, 2 min, harvard step test) of 373 elderly people living Seoul and kyungkee area were collected. The conclusions of this study can be summarized as follow; 1. The test results about smoking, drinking, sleeping and self-evaluation of health revealed that the elderly people have self-confidence about their health. 2. Not many elderly people participate the proper exercise program even though they recognize the need of exercise. 3. The results showed that the elderly people do not pay much attention to the intensity of the exercise. 4. Muscle strength training for leg and the lower back and cardio-vascular endurance training was recommended to reduce the risk of varius problems caused by aging. 5. A exercise program was suggested for the elderly people.

By a cake made in the shape of a flower, azalea honeyed juice mixed with fruits as a punch order to Samjitnal, by beans panbroiling, dropwort raw order Buddha's Birthday, Tano Festival uses Charyunbyeong and used Tteoksudan in Yudu and used much by young chicken soup with ginseng and other fruits, watermelon order period of midsummer heatl Used songpyon and fermented rice punch in Full-moon Harvest Day, and Junggujeol used Chrysanthemum griddle cakes made in flower pattem, and red-bean gruel taken on the winter solstice, and Nappyeongjeolsik was unilizing Goldongban. Pyebaek food utiliaztion ratio was high the utilization rate by rice cake, dried croaker, fruit, oil-and-honey pastry order. The large table food utilization rate was high the utilization rate by fermented rice punch, fruit, steamed short-ribs order.

        중학생의 학교급식에 대한 급식만족도 : 광주,전남지역을 중심으로

        A survey on the school foodservice was conducted from 693 middle school students to examine their degree of satisfaction on foodservice with the object to enhance the quality of school foodservice in Gwangju and Chonnam area. The degree of satisfaction with school foodservice ranked high in taste, temperature and service categories. There were notable differences in the satisfaction level by the gender of the students. Male students ranked higher than female students in taste, temperature and the sanitary condition of food containers. According to grades, first grade students ranked the highest in satisfaction of food selection, temperature, services and cafeteria. Regarding the amount of left-overs, soup and pot-stew were the greatest followed by side dishes. Reasons for leftover food were listed as being tasteless, having no appetite, or large serving size. The items of priorities on school foodservice were revealed as sanitary conditions, taste and variety in menu selection by the students.
