Dongmyung Lee 한국음운론학회 2011 음성·음운·형태론 연구 Vol.17 No.1
In this paper we investigate tone patterns in the phrases of South Kyungsang Korean (SK) in terms of [Word₁+Word₂] combination in all types of syllabic configurations and their tonal patterns. Even though we examined only the phrase structures that have monosyllabic and disyllabic words in W1 position in the current study, we make many intriguing observations in this research. Throughout the current research, we temporarily confirm that SK monosyllabic words have three basic tones, the accented H tone, the unaccented H tone, and the deaccenting L tone, also the SK pitch accent has the structure of H*+L. We observe that the unaccented class exists in SK monosyllabic and disyllabic words which is compatible with previous research (Lee 2009, Lee and Davis 2009, 2010) and this word class presents its own function and characteristic in the SK phrase construction processes. Current examination also indicates that SK generally does not prefer the three initial H tone sequence as well as the two initial L tone sequence at the initial position of a prosodic domain.
Tone patterns of loanword compounds in South Kyungsang Korean
Dongmyung Lee 한국음운론학회 2013 음성·음운·형태론 연구 Vol.19 No.1
The current study investigates the tone patterns of South Kyungsang Korean (SKK) loanword compounds consisting of two words [W1+W2]. Out of these two words, one has to be a non-native Korean word. In this paper, English, Sino-Korean, and Japanese words are used as non-native Korean words. The tonal interactions of the current study show the consistent results with the previous research (Lee and Davis 2009, 2010, Lee 2011a, b). That is, SKK has an accented H tone class as well as an unaccented H tone class, and SKK disprefers a word initial sequence starting with two Low tones. SKK does not prefer two pitch accents in a prosodic domain either. (Dong-A university)
Price of Simplicity under Congestion
Dongmyung Lee,Jeonghoon Mo,Guang Jin,Jinwoo Park IEEE 2012 IEEE journal on selected areas in communications Vol.30 No.11
<P>In this paper, we consider revenues of the NSP (network service provider) when there exists a 'congestion externality.' In particular, we compare revenues obtained using a flat price and two-part tariff and analyze the effect of congestion on the revenue loss when using a simple entry fee in lieu of the two-part tariff. Previous study has shown that when there is no delay disutility the revenue loss is small, which leads to a low 'Price of Simplicity.' However, in this study, we show that in an extreme case where all users are identical, the price of simplicity is substantial. Then we consider a more practical scenario where users have different preferences, and show that even in this case, under congestion externality, the price can be extremely high.</P>
A 20-Gb/s 8.4-㎽ Adaptive Equalizer for Backplane Applications
Dongmyung Lee,Gunhee Han,Sung Min Park 대한전자공학회 2009 ITC-CSCC :International Technical Conference on Ci Vol.2009 No.7
An inductorless adaptive equalizer is realized in a 0.13-㎛ CMOS technology. In order to enhance the bandwidth and high-frequency boosting of the equalization filter, the negative capacitance circuits and 4th-order active feedback technique are introduced instead of on-chip passive inductors. Post-layout simulation results demonstrate the data rate of 20 Gb/s for 34-inch FR4 trace while dissipating power of only 8.4 ㎽ from a single 1.2-V supply. The equalizer core occupies the extremely small area of 230 × 65 ㎛².
An 8.5-Gb/s Fully Integrated CMOS Optoelectronic Receiver Using Slope-Detection Adaptive Equalizer
Dongmyung Lee,Jungwon Han,Gunhee Han,Sung Min Park IEEE 2010 IEEE journal of solid-state circuits Vol.45 No.12
<P>An 8.5-Gb/s single-chip optoelectronic integrated circuit (OEIC) for short-distance optical communications is realized in a 0.13-μm CMOS process. The OEIC consists of an on-chip silicon photodiode, a transimpedance amplifier with modified regulated cascode input configuration, an adaptive equalizer based upon slope-detection algorithm, and a limiting amplifier with merged negative impedance circuits. The proposed slope-detection adaptive equalizer compensates the limited bandwidth and the temperature variation of the integrated silicon photodiode. Measured results demonstrate 120-dB Ω transimpedance gain, 5.9-GHz bandwidth, -3.2-dBm optical sensitivity for 10-12 BER, and 47-mW power dissipation from a single 1.5-V supply. The OEIC chip core occupies the area of 0.1 mm2.</P>
On the Pitch-Accent System of South Kyungsang Korean : A Phonological Perspective
Lee, Dongmyung,Davis, Stuart 서울대학교 언어교육원 (구 서울대학교 어학연구소) 2009 語學硏究 Vol.45 No.1
This paper presents an analysis of the pitch patterns of native nouns of contemporary South Kyungsang Korean. Following DM Lee (2009) we maintain that South Kyungsang Korean has a pitch-accent system that co-exists with an initial tone register. To illustrate this we focus on monomorphemic nouns and the nature of tonal alternations found under suffixation.
RFID-based traceability in the supply chain
Lee, Dongmyung,Park, Jinwoo Emerald Group Publishing Limited 2008 INDUSTRIAL MANAGEMENT & DATA SYSTEMS - Vol.108 No.6
<B>Purpose</B> - The paper aims to propose a novel dynamic tracing task model to enhance the traceability range along the supply chain beyond simple distribution channels. It further extends the study by implementing the system architecture with the proposed data model to support the dynamic tracing task. <B>Design/methodology/approach</B> - Typical processes of supply chain in manufacturing industries using bill of material data to extract and define information requirements are followed. The data elements are systematically selected and explained in the proposed model step by step. <B>Findings</B> - This paper found that existing Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) data management scheme has to be modified so as to provide end-to-end traceability. <B>Research limitations/implications</B> - Validation of the proposed model and system architecture should be done through actual implementation in industrial settings. <B>Practical implications</B> - The paper gives an insight to many system managers and executors in how full traceability along the supply chain can actually be realized. <B>Originality/value</B> - Several studies have discussed the traceability issues but failed to construct a system and methodologies to obtain the full traceability range. However, this paper contributes by presenting the specific methodological steps which can provide powerful solutions to build a system for traceability, exploiting RFID technology.
Evidence for accentless words in South Kyungsang Korean
Dongmyung Lee,Stuart Davis 한국음운론학회 2010 음성·음운·형태론 연구 Vol.16 No.2
Recent studies help to establish Kyungsang Korean as a pitch accent language, which differs from some traditional works that view it as a tone language. The purpose of the current paper is to discuss whether South Kyungsang (SK) Korean has an accentless class of words like other pitch accent languages i.e., Japanese. In an examination of SK words of different length, we maintain that SK Korean has accentless monosyllabic, disyllabic, and trisyllabic words. We hold that SK Korean is not only a pitch accent language but also one that has an accentless class of words.
