        1988 년 가을 강원도 영서지역에서 발생한 쭈쭈가무시병 24 예의 임상적 관찰

        N/A We obserbed 24 cases of tsutsugamushi disease occur- ring in the Gang-Won-Do area from September to October 1988, which were confirmed by indirect immunofluorescent antibody test, and analysed their clinical findings. On physical examination eschars which can be a clinical clue to tsutsugamushi disease in the early stage of infection were recorded in 11 cases (45%). Common laboratory features included thrombocytopenia in 19 cases (95/o), and increased SGOT in 22 cases (92%), SGPT in 49 cases (79%), LDH in 19 out of 20 cases (95%) tested, CK in 7 out of 20 cases (35%) tested and serum ADA level in 12 of 13 cases (92%) tested. Serum fibrinogen was decreased in 5 of 13 cases (38%) tested, FDP was positive in 8 of 13 cases (62%) tested and prolonged prothrombin time was observed in 9 cases (38%). When IgM and IgG titers were measured separately, two distinct responses were seen. The IgM titers gradually declined during the period from 14-40 days. The IgG responses in the same patients developed more slowly. In our study, tsutsugamushi disease was a mild to severe febrile illness of 1 to 2 weeks duration. We think that more concern about tsutsugamushi disease is necessary because of possible mortality in poorly treated cases as well as a need for more precise differential diagnosis of acute febrile illness.

      • B형 간염 동반 원발성 간암 환자에서의 CYP2D6와 NAT2 다형현상에 관한 연구

        The CYP2D6 and N-acetyltransferase (NAT2) are polymorphic enzymes which are expressed in the hepatocyte in a genotype-determined manner. CYP2D6 and NAT2 are known to be involved in the inactivation and activation of various mutagens and carcinogens, respectively. The activities of the two enzyme systems are associated with the genetic susceptibility of many human cancers. This study was performed to determine the genotype frequencies of the two enzyme systems in primary hepatocellular carcinoma patients and healthy controls. One hundred healthy controls and 55 liver cancer patients were analyzed by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism(PCR-RFLP). The results are as followings:1. In the healthy controls, CYP2D6 wild type allele frequency was 0.985 and CYP2D6^*4 frequency was 0.015, and no CYP2D6 poor-metabolizer was detected. No significant differences were found in hepatocellular carcinoma patient group. 2. Frequencies of F, S1, S2 and S3 alleles of NAT2 system were 0.725, 0.01, 0.14 and 0.125 in controls, respectively. The genotype frequencies were found to be 0.91 of rapid acetylator and 0.09 of slow acetylator. No significant differences were found in hepatocellular carcinoma patient group. 3. These results suggest that the distribution of CYP2D6 and NAT2 polymorphisms is very unique in Korean populations characterized by extremely low frequency of CYP2D6 poor-metabolizer and NAT2 slow acetylator. CYP2D6 and NAT2 polymorphisms seemed not to play an important role in the hepatic carcinogenesis in Korean population.

        표면근전도와 전자각도기를 이용한 자동차 부품 조립작업 위험요인 평가

        Objectives: As automobile part manufacturing is characterized by high speed and high repetition, observation methods which are usually utilized for static posture are inappropriate to evaluate musculoskeleatal risk factors. This study quantified the risk factors of musculoskeletal disorders on the forearm and suggested exposure limits by estimating the risk factors using surface electromyography (EMG) and electrogoniometer. Methods: Ten percent of the total workers at 3 automobile part manufacturing factories were randomly selected, and 99 male workers were recruited as study subjects. The study was conducted during May 2003 to September 2004. The workers were equipped with electrogoniometers on the wrist and the elbow, surface EMGs on the skin of the flexor digitorum superficialis (FDS) and extensor carpi radialis (ECR) muscles, and the heart beat recorder during work as indicators of joint movement, local muscle tension and physical work load, respectively. Results: After controlling for age, body mass index and job stress, wrist flexion maximum angle, FDS relative activity (RA) and ECR RA were significantly associated with forearm musculoskeletal symptoms. The odds ratios of the forearm were 5.0(95% CI: 1.1-22.7), 14.0(95% CI: 1.5-128.8) and 7.3(95% CI: 1.1-49.4) for wrist flexion maximum angle more than 76˚, FDS RA more than 2.8%, and ECR RA more than 3.5%, respectively. Conclusions: Joint angle and focal muscle activity were associated with forearm musculoskeletal symptoms. To reduce forearm musculoskeletal symptoms among automobile part manufacturers, the wrist flexion angle, and FDS and ECR activity need to be reduced below the guidelines recommended in this study.

        유리 측대퇴 피판을 이용한 압궤수부손상 재건술

        Utilizing the lateral thigh flap as originally described by Se-Min Baek. in 1983, we have treated seven cases of reconstruction involving crushing injuries of the hand. This flap is derived from the third perforator of the deep femoral artery and accompanying wein as per Baek`s method. When a large skin flap was needed such as the case of crushing hand injuries, a lateral thigh flap was more useful than any other flap. From our experiences for reconstruction of crushing hand injuries, the following advantages of this flap are noted: 1. It is possible to obtain a large size of all skin flap. 2. It is relatively thin with a small amount of the subcutaneous fat. 3. The vascular pedicle is long (10㎝ or more), facilitating microvascular anastomosis. 4. The lateral thigh flap can be a sensory flap. 5. It can be accommodated easily to any operating position.

        Meiotic irregularities in larix

        Meiotic irregularities occured during microsporogenesis in four different larch species were investigated as the first step to determine factors affecting seed yield in Larix. The major abnormalities observed in the materials examined were chromosomal stickiness, degeneration of PMCs(pollen mother cell), acentric chromosomes, unequal distribution of chromosomes, lagging chromosomes, and aberrant microspore formation. Among them degeneration of PMCs, acentric chromosomes at metaphase 1, and aberrant microspore formation were the most common irregularities in all species investigated. Conclusively, meiosis of the larch PMCs was disrupted with total frequencies ranging from 28.3% to 52%, depending on the species. The results obtained in this study indicate that pollen quality might be responsible for seed loss in Larix.

      • Athb-12, a homeobox-leucine zipper domain protein from Arabidopsis thaliana, increases salt tolerance in yeast by regulating sodium exclusion

        An Arabidopsis cDNA clone that encodes Athb-12, a homeobox-leucine zipper domain protein (HD-Zip), was isolated by functional complementation of the NaC1-sensitive phenotype of a calcineurin (CaN)-deficient yeast mutant (cnbΔ, regulatory subunit null). CaN, a Ca^(2+)/calmodulin-dependent protein phosphatase, regulates Na+ ion homeostasis in yeast. Expression of Athb-12 increased NaC1 tolerance but not osmotic stress tolerance of these cnbΔ cells. Furthermore, expression of two other HD-Zip from Arabidopsis, Athb-1 and -7, did not suppress NaCl sensitivity of cnbΔ cells. These results suggest that Athb-12 specifically functions in Na+ ion homeostasis in yeast. Consistent with these observations, expression of Athb-12 in yeast turned on transcription of the NaCl stress-inducible PMR2A, which encodes a Na^(+)/Li^(+) translocating P-type ATPase, and decreased Na+ levels in yeast cells. To investigate the biological function of Athb-12 in Arabidopsis, we performed Northern blot analysis. Expression of Athb-12 was dramatically induced by NaCl and ABA treatments, but not by KCl. In vivo targeting experiments using a green fluorescent protein reporter indicated that Athb-12 was localized to the nucleus. These results suggest that Athb-12 is a putative transcription factor that may be involved in NaCl stress reponses in plants.

      • Callus induction and shoot regeneration from Robinia pseudoacasia

        아까시나무 성목의 top branch와 epicormic branch로 부터 형성층조직을 채취하여 기내배양 반응을 조사하였다. Callus 발생정도에 있어서는 가지의 위치에 따른 차이가 없었으나 callus에서 shoot의 재분화는 가지의 위치에 따른 차이가 있었다. 더우기 발생학적으로 가장 성숙한 부위인 top branch가 어린조직보다 재분화능이 높았는데 이는 아까시나무의 조직배양 재료로 성숙조직을 이용할 수 있음을 증명하는 것이다. Cambial tissues were used to study in vitro responses of top and epicormic branches from two mature black locust trees. There was no significant difference in callus induction between branch sources. However, the frequency of shoot induction from proliferated calli between two sources was different. Furthermore, the top branch which is the most mature part of a tree revealed the better regenerability than that of juvenile part. Thus, physiologically mature tissue is also amenable for in vitro culture of black locust.

        온실에서 자라는 낙엽송의 접목묘와 야외에서 자라는 실생묘로부터 (實生苗) 개화의 (開花) 유도

        GA4/7 spray, injection and several cultural treatments were applied to the greenhouse-grown potted hybrid larch(Larix decidua × leptolepis) grafts and field-grown European larch seedlings to induce early flowering. A treatment consisting of repeat-ed GA4/7 sprays, alone, was the most effective flower induction treatment for greenhouse-grown, potted larch grafts. Root pruning as a adjunct treatment did not show synergistic effects. Injection for potted grafts with GA4/7 was not useful approach in this study and it resulted in increased mortality. In the field experiment with 10-Year-old larch seedlings, repeated GA4/7 sprays in combination with root pruning or with plastic mulching appears to be useful and practical means for inducing larch flowers:
