Abstract

Recently, considerable research has been made on the development of bone tissue engineering (BTE) scaffolds to support cellular behaviors. Here, black phosphorus-incorporated poly(ε-caprolactone) and collagen (PCL/BP/Col) nanofiber matrices were designed and their potential as BTE scaffolds were explored. The PCL/BP/Col nanofiber matrices were fabricated successfully by electrospinning, showing that they were suitable for supporting cell growth. The PCL/BP/Col nanofiber matrices could promote not only initial attachment and proliferation, but also osteodifferentiation of preosteoblasts. In conclusion, PCL/BP/Col nanofiber matrices possess excellent biocompatibility and improve osteogenic differentiation. Therefore, the PCL/BP/Col nanofiber matrices can be a promising candidate as a scaffold for BTE.

Highlights

Black phosphorus (BP)-incorporated PCL and collagen nanofiber matrix is designed.

PCL/BP/Col nanofiber matrix favorably supports cell growth.

Biocompatibility and biofunctionality of PCL/BP/Col matrix is demonstrated.

PCL/BP/Col matrix can stimulate spontaneous osteodifferentiation.

PCL/BP/Col matrix can be employed as a bone tissue engineering scaffold.

Graphical abstract

[DISPLAY OMISSION]

Objective: This study aims to develop a new desk with a built-in bookholder and desktop-mounted sliding drawer for reducing stress of seated reading postures and to analyze its effect. Background: It is general for readers to bend their back and neck when reading books on desks, which may result in high back and neck postural stress. In addition, postures using vertically layered drawers positioned at the side of users may be awkward. Method: For reducing the postural stress, a new desk with a built-in bookholder and sliding drawer was developed based on a standard of KS G 4208 for student desk. The muscle activities of reading postures on both existing and new desks were measured using EMG, in which seven male and three female college students participated. The postural stress, and musculoskeletal discomfort and ease of usage for existing and new drawers were analyzed by RULA and questionnaire survey, respectively. Results: Compared to existing desk, the muscle activity for the new desk with a bookholder was reduced by 47% when reading books. In addition, musculoskeletal discomforts in the shoulder, neck and low back were significantly lower when using the new desk with a bookholder. Although the stresses for postures using the desktopmounted sliding drawer and general drawer were not significantly different, the questionnaire survey revealed that the new desktop-mounted sliding drawer is easier to use. Conclusion: A new desk developed in this study significantly reduced postural stress and enhanced subjective preference when reading. Application: This would be useful when developing new desks with low postural stress.
Static Micro-Mixing Analysis by Using Sequential Quadratic Programming and a Confocal Microscope
Dohyung Lee,이성환 한국물리학회 2008 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.52 No.3
Molecular diffusion transport in a straight micro-channel has very little influence on mixing due to the extremely small length and velocity scales. As an alternative to a complex geometry, we propose a static-type micro-mixer with a concise configuration. This simpler geometry, but with careful design, achieves a less pressure drop but still allows a reasonably good mixing effect, which might be suitable for practical mass-production-type devices. In our research, the influence of the obstacles in a Y-channel type mixer on mixing was numerically and experimentally investigated by using precise nonlinear analysis. The layout and the size of the obstacles in a Y-channel micro-mixer were optimized to obtain the maximum possible mixing ratio by using sequential quadratic programming (SQP), a nonlinear approximate optimization technique. In the experimental setup, a Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) micro Y-channel was fabricated in which two DI water and ethanol working fluids passed by. A laser induced fluorescence (LIF) confocal microscope was adopted in order to determine the mixing ratio by using the fluorescence intensity of the flow using He/Ne laser scanner. This procedure could be easily extended as a guideline to the optimization of other types of static micro-mixers.
Design and Implementation of Pneumatic Motion Base for 4D Home Theater
Dohyung Kim,Seongyeon Cho,Seokhun Lee,Seunghyun Lee,Soonchul Kwon 한국인터넷방송통신학회 2015 Journal of Advanced Smart Convergence Vol.4 No.2
Home Entertainment system is recently being offered by Home Theater & Smart TV with contents service. Also, console game is being played in the media like in TV. The usage of 4D as the main technology in entertainment industry has mostly been limited in Theme Park, Amuse Park, Theater, and contents for Movie and Animation. Some simulation systems for game has been developed but they were made mostly by using electric or hydraulic motion system which cause high power consumption and have a restriction of place for install. The paper is attempted to build Home Entertainment system which makes users feel realistic contents by developing 4D systems for Home Entertainment rather than before. 4D control S/W in which user can insert and edit 4D effects on contents of all areas such as game, movie, and broadcasting is developed. Also, built-in pneumatic cylinder in 4D system which can be easily controlled and managed in home is developed.

Objective The purpose of the present study was to develop and validate the Korean version of the clinician-administered KSADSCOMP, which is the recently updated, web-based computerized version of the Kiddie Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for school-age children (KSADS).Methods A total of 71 participants (mean age=12.04±3.86 years, female=29.57%) participated in the study. A child-adolescent psychiatrist established a diagnosis for the participant after a thorough psychiatric interview with the participant and the parent. Researchers who were blind to the diagnoses administered the clinician-administered KSADS-COMP to the parents and participants. The gold-standard diagnoses made by child-adolescent psychiatrists were compared to the current diagnoses generated by the clinician-administered KSADS-COMP. Percent agreement, Cohen’s Kappa, Gwet’s first-order agreement coefficient (AC1), sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value were calculated. Results Gwet’s AC1, our preferred measure of agreement, showed excellent range between 0.78 and 1. Sensitivity, specificity, positive predicted value and negative predictive value also showed high scores. Conclusion The current study demonstrated excellent criterion validity of the Korean version of the clinician-administered KSADSCOMP, though the small sample size could be a limitation. The current study was the first study to examine the criterion validity of the KSADS-COMP. Due to its readily usable format and efficient and accurate diagnostic process, widely-use of KSADS-COMP is expected.
