Spatial differentiation of gated communities in Nanjing

        Weixuan Song,Chunhui Liu 서울시립대학교 도시과학연구원 2017 도시과학국제저널 Vol.21 No.4

Since market reform began in China’s housing sector, gated communities have been the mainstream model for newly built residential communities. There is a rich literature exploring the popularity and social-spatial effects of gated communities, as well as reactions to them. However, the general layout and spatial differentiation of gated communities in urban areas have been scarcely explored. This paper studies the central urban area of Nanjing, which was determined in the Urban Master Planning of Nanjing (2011–2010). The research object is the set of 1114 gated communities that were built after 1998. The Theil Index and GIS Contour Line are used to analyse the spatial distribution of housing prices, property management fees and plot ratios of these gated communities in Nanjing. Then, we reveal the spatial differentiation of the types and grades of the gated communities and propose a spatial differentiation model of gated communities in Nanjing. Based on all of the above, this paper also discusses how factors including location/land price, city planning, construction type, resource allocation, and year of establishment impact the gated communities’ spatial differentiation and how the gated communities’ spatial differentiation reflects and predicts urban socio-spatial differentiation.

High lead exposure in two leaded bronze ingot foundry workers

        Yoojun Song,Chunhui Suh,Shin-Ae Kim,Nami Kim,Sung-Min Kim,Seong-Wook Jeong,Se-Yeong Kim,Kun-Hyung Kim,Jeong-Ho Kim,Byung-Chul Son,Chae-Kwan Lee,Jong-Tae Lee 대한직업환경의학회 2014 대한직업환경의학회지 Vol.26 No.-

Background: Awareness about lead poisoning in South Korea has increased; however, occupational exposures occurring in small-scale businesses have not been thoroughly investigated. We report two cases of high lead exposure in a leaded bronze ingot foundry. Case presentation: Two employees, a 54-year-old primary operator and a 46-year-old assistant, at a small-scale metalworking company who had been employed for 18 years and 1 month, respectively, showed elevated blood lead levels (61.1 μg/dL and 51.7 μg/dL, respectively) at an occupational health checkup. Neither worker complained of abnormal symptoms nor signs related to lead poisoning. Health assessment follow-ups were conducted and biological exposure indices of lead were calculated every four weeks. After the initial follow-up assessment, both workers were relocated from the foundry process to the metalworking process. In addition, a localized exhaust system was installed after the second follow-up. Conclusions: Foundry workers in a small-scale businesses might be at high risk of lead exposure because these businesses might be vulnerable to poor industrial hygiene. Therefore, regular occupational health checkups are required.

Influence of Transport Properties of Laminated Membrane-fabric on Thermal Protective Performance Against Steam Hazard

        Yun Su,Rui Li,Jie Yang,Chunhui Xiang,Guowen Song,Jun Li 한국섬유공학회 2019 Fibers and polymers Vol.20 No.11

The breathable fabric and membrane application in protective clothing designed for protection against flame, radiation, hot liquid and steam are vital in thermal protective performance and thermal comfort. Four kinds of laminatedmembrane-fabrics were selected to investigate the influence of configuration and properties of the fabric on thermalprotective performance under a pressurized steam hazard simulation. Surface morphology, water repellency, air permeability, water vapor permeability and other characteristics were evaluated to explore their impact on the mechanism of heat andmoisture transfer in laminated fabric. It is found that the configuration critically affects the thermal protective performance. The thickness, mass and moisture regain of laminated fabric exhibit different levels of positive correlation with thermalprotective performance of two configurations. Additionally, absorptive and porous membranes have different modes of watervapor transmission, while heat conduction and steam condensation in two kinds of membranes are both key influential factorsin producing skin burn under steam hazard. Therefore, effective protection against steam hazard is achieved by decreasing thepenetration and storage of steam within protective clothing.

Effect of annealing temperature on resistive switching behavior of Al/ La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 /LaNiO3 devices

        Li Juanfei,Wu Lei,Ma Mingyu,Song Ruifeng,Dong Chunhui,Wei Junfang,Li Jinsheng,Wang Xiaoqiang,Li Mingya 한국물리학회 2023 Current Applied Physics Vol.46 No.-

La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 (LSMO)/LaNiO3 (LNO) thin films were deposited successively on Si single crystal by the sol-gel method. The bipolar resistive switching (RS) behavior was studied in Al/LSMO/LNO devices. Obvious current hysteresis was observed, the set (reset) voltage and resistance ratio were modulated by the annealing temperature of LSMO thin films. At the annealing temperature of 750 ◦C, good endurance and retention performance were obtained in the memory device. According to the fitting results of I–V curves, based on Schottky emission model, the conduction mechanisms of Al/LSMO/LNO devices were discussed. Our results may give a valuable insight on developing perovskite-type rare earth manganese oxide.

The effect of applying ethnicity-specific spirometric reference equations to Asian migrant workers in Korea

        Nami Kim,Se-Yeong Kim,Yoojun Song,Chunhui Suh,Kun-Hyung Kim,Jeong-Ho Kim,Byung-Chul Son,Chae-Kwan Lee,Jong-Tae Lee 대한직업환경의학회 2015 대한직업환경의학회지 Vol.27 No.-

Objectives: Asian migrant workers in Korea have various ethnicities. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the difference in spirometric interpretation made using the set of third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III) reference equations and the relevant ethnicity-specific reference sets. Methods: Spirometry was performed on 166 migrant and 498 Korean male workers between March and November 2012. We analyzed the spirometric data of healthy never-smokers. Spirometric patterns were evaluated using the NHANES III reference set and some relevant ethnicity-specific equations (Eom’s equation for Koreans, Ip’s equation for East Asians, Crapo’s equation for Central Asians, Memon’s equation for South Asians, and Gnanou’s equation for Southeast Asian people). Results: In all migrant groups except the Central Asian group, the forced expiratory volume in 1 second percentage (FEV₁%) and forced vital capacity percentage (FVC%) calculated using each of the ethnicity-specific reference equations considered were significantly higher than those calculated using the NHANES III reference set. This study showed that in the evaluation of the spirometric result of subjects from Southeast Asia or South Asia, the percentage of cases with an abnormal FEV₁ or FVC increased when the NHANES III set of equations was used as compared to when the ethnicity-specific equations were used. Conclusions: We found that the spirometric results of all ethnic groups were higher and the composition of the abnormal spirometric result was lower when the ethnicity-specific reference equations were used instead of the NHANES III reference set.

Numerical modeling and global performance analysis of a 15-MW Semisubmersible Floating Offshore Wind Turbine (FOWT)

        Da Li,Ikjae Lee,Cong Yi,Wei Gao,Chunhui Song,Shenglei Fu,Moohyun Kim,Alex Ran,Tuanjie Liu Techno-Press 2023 Ocean systems engineering Vol.13 No.3

The global performance of a 15 MW floating offshore wind turbine, a newly designed semisubmersible floating foundation with multiple heave plates by CNOOC, is investigated with two independent turbine-floater-mooring coupled dynamic analysis programs CHARM3D-FAST and OrcaFlex. The semisubmersible platform hosts IEA 15 MW reference wind turbine modulated for VolturnUS-S and hybrid type (chain-wire-chain with clumps) 3×2 mooring lines targeting the water depth of 100 m. The numerical free-decay simulation results are compared with physical experiments with 1:64 scaled model in 3D wave basin, from which appropriate drag coefficients for heave plates were estimated. The tuned numerical simulation tools were then used for the feasibility and global performance analysis of the FOWT considering the 50-yr-storm condition and maximum operational condition. The effect of tower flexibility was investigated by comparing tower-base fore-aft bending moment and nacelle translational accelerations. It is found that the tower-base bending moment and nacelle accelerations can be appreciably increased due to the tower flexibility.
