<P>An all‐solution‐processed flexible piezoelectric nanogenerator, composed of polycrystalline ZnO thin film and functional polymer layers such as P3HT/PCBM and PEDOT:PSS, generates energy through a mechanical rolling and muscle stretching system. On page 6022, Youn Sang Kim, Sang‐Woo Kim, and co‐workers show that this all‐solution‐processed nanogenerator is feasible as a piezoelectric patchable device and is promising for use in future energy harvesters such as wearable human patches and mobile electronics. </P>

An Efficient Multicast Routing Algorithm for Packet-Switched Networks
Chung, Sung-Jin,Hong, Sung-Pil,Park, Bum Hwan 한국경영과학회 1998 한국경영과학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.- No.2
This paper has a dual purpose. First, we consider a relaxation algorithm which seems to be particularly suitable for multicasting routing problems. We show that the algorithm has polynomial complexity. Second, to measure the quality of solutions in comparison to the optimal solutions over a wide range of network sizes for which the computation of the optimal costs is too excessive, we also propose a random graph generation scheme in which an asymptotic lower bound on the expected optimal cost can be computed as a function of network node size.

Background/Aims: Quantitative HBsAg (qHBsAg) titers are emerging as useful tools for measuring viral load and predicting predicting virologic response (VR). This study aimed to determine whether serial monitoring of HBsAg levels could predict virologic response to entecavir(ETV) & clevudine(CLV) therapy in treatment-naive patients with CHB Methods: A total of 157 treatment-naive patients with CHB, who visited Chung-Ang University Hospital between January 2007 and December 2008, were enrolled in this study (100 males). 97 patients(69 males, mean age 48) were treated with ETV for average 53 months, and 60 patients (31 males, mean age 43) were treated with CLV for 26months average. HBsAg levels were measured at baseline, week 12, 24, and 48. All patients were assessed for virological response (HBV DNA<140 copies/mL). Serum HBV DNA was quantified using the real time PCR assay (Artus HBV LC PCR Kit, Roche Diagnostics, lower limit of quantification, 140 copies/mL). Results: In 97 ETV-treated patients, the rates of virological response were 56.7% (55/97) at 48months and 60 CLV-treated patients, 30% (18/60) at 24 months, respectively. Mean reduction of baseline HBV DNA was -5.3, and -4.9 log10 copies/mL. In 55 VR patients treated with ETV, 43(78.1%) patients showed early decline of HBsAg titer and 31(56.3%) patients had lower baseline HBsAg levels (< 3.7 log IU/mL). In 18 VR patients treated with CLV, 9(50%) patients showed early decline of HBsAg titer and 11(61.1%) patients had also lower baseline HBsAg levels (< 3.7 log IU/mL) . Conclusions: Early decline of HBsAg was useful for predicting VR, and baseline HBsAg could be indicative as well in CHB patients treated with ETV than patients treated with CLV.

The purpose of this research aims to reveal how radish kimchi (Jong-ga) differs in Jong-ga recipes and old cookbooks. To accomplish this, old cookbooks ("Soowoonjabbang", "Jusiksiui", "Eumsikbangmunnira", "Siuejunsuh", "Banchandeungsok", and "Buinpilji") were reviewed and 8 Jong-ga recipes (Seogye Park Se-dang from the Bannam Park clan Jong-ga, Myungsukgong from the Changnyeong Jo clan Jong-ga, Nampa Park Jae-gyu from the Milyang Park clan Jong-ga, Geunggudang Kim Joong-jeung from the Gwangsan Kim clan Jong-ga, Dongchundang Song Jun-gil from the Eunjin Song clan Jong-ga, Myeongjae Yun Jung from the Papyung Yun clan Jong-ga, Daeseunggong Ryu Cha-dal from the Munhwa Ryu clan Jong-ga, Inmukjae Son Sung-jeung from the Milseong Son clan Jong-ga) from five areas were reviewed. We classified the radish kimchi into five categories, radish kimchi, Dongchimi, kkakdugi, Seokbakji and Nabak kimchi and other kimchi. According to old cookbooks, most kimchi was made with radish, cabbage, cucumber, pear, yuju, fish meat, and salt. Modern Jong-ga is made of seasoned radish, sticky rice paste, seafood, sugar, powdered pepper, fish sauce and salt. This study helps to understand notable clans' cultures via their recipes for kimchi.

We have compared the antitumor effect of photodynamic therapy (PDT), using 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) as the photosensitizer, combined with cisplatin (CDDP) on AMC-HN3 human squamous cell carcinoma. AMC-HN3 cells were cultured and then incubated with various concentrations of CDDP and ALA. 632 nm diode laser was given at 6.0 J/㎠ followed by incubation for 24 hours. The evaluation of cell viability was done by MTT assay. In vivo CDDP was injected intraperitoneally 24 hours prior to PDT. The anti-tumor effects of each treatment were measured by tumor volume change. Cell viability were 44.29% for the cisplatin-mediated chemotherapy group (6.25 ㎍/㎖), 77.22% for ALA-PDT group, and 15.06% for the Combination therapy group. In vivo, the antitumor effect of photodynamic therapy was enhanced by combination of Cisplatin-mediated chemotherapy. Photodynamic therapy combined with administration of Cisplatin appears to enhance antitumor effect and to be a useful treatment modality.

<P>Harpagoside (1) is an iridoid glycoside isolated from the radix of Harpagophytum procumbens var. sublobatum, commonly called Devil's claw. The anti-osteoporotic effect of 1 was investigated in both in vitro cell cultures and in vivo using an ovariectomized (OVX) mouse model. Compound 1 induced bone formation by stimulating osteoblast proliferation, alkaline phosphatase activity, and mineralization in osteoblastic MC3T3-E1 cells. Treatment with 1 increased the mRNA and protein expression of bone formation biomarkers through regulation of the BMP2 and Wnt signaling pathway in MC3T3-E1 cells. Compound 1 also suppressed the RANKL-induced osteoclastogenesis of cultured mouse bone marrow cells. Oral administration of 1 restored the OVX-induced destruction of trabecular bone. The bone mineral density of the femur was also increased significantly by 1. The elevated serum levels of osteocalcin, C-terminal telopeptide, and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase in the OVX mice were decreased by treatment with 1. These findings suggest that compound 1 may protect against bone loss induced by OVX in mice by regulating stimulation of osteoblast differentiation and inhibition of osteoclast resorption. Therefore, harpagoside (1) is a potential candidate for management of postmenopausal osteoporosis.</P>
