        Performance Comparison of Acoustic Equalizers using Adaptive Algorithms in Shallow Water Condition

        천해 환경에서의 수중 음향 통신 채널은 전형적으로 시변 다중 경로 페이딩 채널 특성을 나타낸다. 이러한 채널 전송을 통해 수신된 신호는 시간 지연 및 진폭의 중첩에 의해 심볼 간 간섭을 유발한다. 이를 보완하기 위해 여러 기술이 사용되었으며, 그 중 하나가 음향 등화기이다. 본 연구에서는 심볼 간 간섭을 보상하기 위해 feed-forward equalizer (FFE), decision direct equalizer (DDE), decision feedback equalizer (DFE) 및 DFE와 결합된 DDE의 4 종류의 등화기와 등화기의 계수를 조정하기 위해 normalized least mean square (NLMS) 알고리즘과 recursive least square (RLS) 알고리즘의 2 종류의 알고리즘을 적용하였다. 그 결과 비선형 등화기에서는 신호 대 잡음비 6 dB 이상에서 상당한 성능 향상을 발견할 수 있었으며, DFE와 DDE의 조합은 어떤 경우에도 최고의 성능을 발휘하였다. The acoustic communication channel in shallow underwater is typically shown as time-varying multipath fading channel characteristics. The received signal through channel transmission cause inter-symbol interference (ISI) owing to multiple components of different time delay and amplitude. To compensate for this, several techniques have been used, and one of them is acoustic equalizer. In this study, we used four equalizers - feed forward equalizer (FFE), decision directed equalizer (DDE), decision feedback equalizer (DFE) and combination DDE with DFE to compensate ISI. And we applied two adaptive algorithms to adjust coefficient of equalizers - normalized least mean square algorithm and recursive least square algorithm. As result, we found that it has a significant performance improvement over 6 dB on SNR in nonlinear equalizer. By combination of DFE and DDE has almost best performance in any case.

        Experimental investigation of predicting rockburst using Bayesian model

        Rockbursts, catastrophic events involving the violent release of elastic energy stored in rock features, remain a worldwide challenge for geoengineering. Especially at deep-mining sites, rockbursts can occur in hard, high-stress, brittle rock zones, and the associated risk depends on such factors as mining activity and the stress on surrounding rocks. Rockbursts are often sudden and destructive, but there is still no unified standard for predicting them. Based on previous studies, a new Bayesian multi-index model was introduced to predict and evaluate rockbursts. In this method, the rock strength index, energy release index, and surrounding rock stress are the basic factors. Values from 18 rock samples were obtained, and the potential rockburst risks were evaluated. The rockburst tendencies of the samples were modelled using three existing methods. The results were compared with those obtained by the new Bayesian model, which was observed to predict rockbursts more effectively than the current methods.

        Trends in Tidal Levels and Mean Sea Level in the Gulf of Thailand

        Astronomical tides have a major impact on coastal sediment distribution, seawater levels, coastal navigation, and other coastal dynamics. Any significant change to tides could have impacts on coastal ecosystems. This study explored the hourly water level from 11 tidal gauge stations along the Gulf of Thailand over different periods using harmonic analysis. Secular trends of tidal levels, tidal range, mean sea level and tidal constituents were assessed using a linear regression model. We found changes in all the tidal levels assessed. Increasing trends were observed for almost all tidal levels and the mean sea level at all locations. At most of the locations, the trends in tidal levels were similar to the mean sea level. Widespread increasing trends were observed in relation to the tidal levels, and in most cases, the trends were consistent with the mean sea level. Analysis of the tidal harmonic constituents showed significant trends for the luni-solar diurnal constituent (K1) at most stations. However, the magnitude of the trends in the harmonic constituents was less pronounced compared to the trends in water levels. Coastal management policies should take into account these widespread changes in tides.

        The Optimal Design of Junctionless Transistors with Double-Gate Structure for reducing the Effect of Band-to-Band Tunneling

        The effect of band-to-band tunneling (BTBT) leads to an obvious increase of the leakage current of junctionless (JL) transistors in the OFF state. In this paper, we propose an effective method to decline the influence of BTBT with the example of n-type double gate (DG) JL metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs). The leakage current is restrained by changing the geometrical shape and the physical dimension of the gate of the device. The optimal design of the JL MOSFET is indicated for reducing the effect of BTBT through simulation and analysis.

        Stability Analysis of Prefabricated Underground Granary Composite Silo Walls

        The prefabricated steel plate-concrete composite silos have been recently used for underground granaries. As the buried depth and diameter-thickness ratio of underground silos increase, the calculation of elastic stability, which takes into account the effects of prefabricated joints, becomes a primary consideration in the design of the silo walls. In the present study, the equation to estimate the elastic critical pressure of double-layer heterogeneous cast-in-situ silos under uniform external pressure was proposed first. The theoretical solutions were then compared with the numerical results and the accuracy of the equation was verified. To derive the critical pressure of prefabricated steel plate-concrete silo walls, an equivalent joint design method was proposed and verified by a series of numerical analyses for different models. The results indicate that if the bending stiffness ratio of the joint is larger than the bending stiffness of the composite silo wall section, the prefabricated double-layer composite silo walls are equivalent to cast-in-situ double-layer composite silo walls, and the equation to evaluate the elastic critical pressure of double-layer heterogeneous cast-in-situ silo walls under uniform external pressure could be used to derive the critical pressure of prefabricated steel plate-concrete silo walls. The bending tests of the full-scale steel plate-concrete composite silo wall models with and without joints were conducted and the experimental results indicate that the assumption of a rigid connection between the steel plate and concrete was reasonable, and the equivalence of prefabricated composite silos to cast-in-situ composite silos to obtain the elastic critical pressure is feasible and the result is reliable.
