It has been reported that oral kallikrein therapy exerts a favourable effect on sperm motility in asthenozoospermic patients. In order to evaluate the efficacy of kallikrein on asthenozoospermia, a total of 20 subfertile male patients with varicocele, whose sperm counts were less than $40{\times}10^6/ml$ and sperm motility was less than 30%, was subjected to this clinical study (Table 1). They were divided into 2 study groups: 1) Varicocelectomy group consisted of 10 patients with varicocele (grade II-III) who underwent varicocelectomy. 2) Kallikrein group was composed of 10 patients with varicocele (grade I) who were given kallikrein orally 600 KU (kallikrein unit) daily divided 3 times after meal for 3 to 9 months. Semen analyses were repeated twice before the study, once a month during the study and twice after the study. Effective results designate that sperm parameters improved more than 30% from the basical levels after varicocelectomy or kallikrein exposure. Sperm counts increased from $32.5{\times}10^5/ml$ to $45.5{\times}10^6/ml$ after varicocelectomy in 3 patients and sperm motility increased from 25% to 38.5% after varicocelectomy in 3 patients. Pregnancy occurred in 2 patients of 3 responders and 1 patient of 7 non-responders 3 to 6 months after varicocelectomy in Varicocelectomy group. Sperm motility increased from 28% to 40.2% after kallikrein treatment in 3 patients. Pregnancy occurred in 2 patients of the 3 responders in Kallikrein group (Tables 2-3). There were no significant changes in volume and morphology in Varicocelectomy group before after varicocelectomy and no significant changes in volume, counts, and morphology before and after kallikrein exposure. No remarkable side effects were noted with kallikrein treatment.

Total SOD, CAT, POX, and GR activities on the basis of protein were found to be important factors to defend cold water stress. Especially, SOD and CAT activities showed distinctive differences between chilling-tolerant and -susceptible varieties. Chilling-tolerant varieties were higher than chilling-susceptible varieties for SOD and CAT activities. One of eight isozyme bands for SOD was a inducible isoform. Three isozymes for CAT and one isozyme for POX were closely correlated with defense to cold water stress. Total GR activities except Stejaree 45 on the basis fresh weight and POX were increased by cold water stress, but there was no difference between chilling-tolerant and -sus-ceptible varieties.

쌀의 외관, 호화특성 및 물성 차이에 따른 품종별 분류

벼 품종 간 이화학적 특성 및 취반특성에 관여하는 요인을 구명하여 취반특성별 품종 군을 분류하고 밥맛이 좋은 품종의 취반특성 요인을 구명하여 고품질 품종이 갖는 미질 요인을 파악함으로써 고품질 품종육성 및 품종선발의 지표로 삼고자 실험을 수행하였는바 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 백도는 대야벼, 호평벼, 고시히까리가 높았고 현미의 경도는 일품벼가 낮았으며 신동진벼가 가장 높았다. 2. 호화점도 특성중 호평벼와 고시히까리는 대야, 호안벼에 비하여 강하점도가 높고 치반점도, 응집점도가 낮았으며 특히 고시히까리는 최고점도, 강하점도가 매우 높은 반면 치반점도와 응집점도가 낮았다. 반면 일품, 운광벼는 다른 품종보다 강하점도는 낮고 치반점도가 높았다. 3. 품종별 물성 요인에서는 밥알의 경도는 호평벼가 다른 품종보다 유의적으로 낮았고 응집성이 높았다 반면 점성 및 부착성, 균형도는 고시히까리가 높았다. 4. 밥맛을 간접적으로 평가할 수 있는 기계적 식미치 검정에서는 대야벼 호안벼가 낮고 일품벼, 운광벼가 높았다. We analyzed factors which related with rice quality at seven varieties. The whiteness of Daeyabyeo, Hopyeongbyeo and Koshihikari were higher than those of other rice varieties. In the hardness of brown rice, Ilpumbyeo was the lowest, and Sindongjinbyeo was the highest among varieties. The hardness cooked rice of Hopyeongbyeo were significantly low, and cohesiveness of those were significantly high. but adhesiveness, viscosity and gumminess of Ko-shihikari was high than other cooked rice varieties. The palatability of Daeyabyeo and Hopyeongbyeo were higher than those of Ilpunbyeo and Ungwangbyeo. Varieties which were known as having good palatability were higher in the breakdown, while setback and consistency were low. In those varieties, factors of upper were correlated with palatability, so this were supposed to determine palatability.

Brown rice grain pigments of black rice have a higher content of bioactive substances such as anti-mutagenic substance than the non-pigmented rice grain. The major anthocyanin pigment contained in black rice was cyanidin-3-glucoside. This study was conducted to establish a rapid analysis method for determining cyanidin-3-glucoside contents in flour and whole rice seeds of black rice using VIS/NIRS technique. A total of 60 black rice samples were used for VIS/NIRS equation model development and validation. The value of coefficient of determination of external validation (r 2 ) and standard error of performance (SEP) in whole rice seed sample were 0.653 and 97.2, respectively. Therefore, the value of it seemed to be difficult to analyze cyanidin-3-glucoside content in whole rice seed samples using VIS/NIRS. However, in rice flour sample, the best accurate equation model was obtained from the partial least square regression (PLS) method. The value of r 2 , SEP and bias were 22.5, 0.922 and -1.45 in the calibration transformed to the N-point smooth of log 1/R signal, 5 factors, respectively. Therefore, the results of our study clearly demonstrate that the VIS/NIRS method would be applicable only for rapid determination of cyanidin-3-glucose content in black rice flour samples.
