        수학자 보재 이상설(李相卨)의 근대자연과학 수용 -『백승호초(百勝胡艸)』를 중심으로-

        본 논문은 한국 근대수학교육의 아버지 이상설(李相卨, 1870-1917)이 자연과학―물리학―에 기여한 내용을 다루고있다. 이상설은 ?수리(數理)?를 쓴 시기를 전후하여, 같은 시기에 붓으로 총 8면에 걸쳐 『백승호초(百勝胡艸)』라는이름의 고전물리학 원고를 써서 남겼다. 분석결과 이 책의 원전은 1879년에 동경제대 의학부 교재로 발간된 『물리학(物理學)』이다. 이상설은 『백승호초』에서 먼저 개념을 정의하고, 일상에서 나타난 대표적 현상을 선록하여 한문으로번역하였고, 『물리학』의 전체 분량에서도 특히 ‘통유성(通有性)’에 중점을 두고 설명하였다. 동양에서 서양의 수리과학이 들어와야만 말할 수 있는 ‘질량보존의 법칙’, ‘타성(惰性, 관성)’과 같은 고전물리학의 중요개념을 포함하는 내용이 19세기 말에 이미 이 책에 소개된 것으로 보아 이상설은 당대의 다른 저술에서 보기 힘들 정도로 당시 일반물리학의 최고수준의 원서를 통해 최신 정보를 수용하고 전파하기 위하여 노력하였음을 볼 수 있다. Sang-Seol Lee(1870-1917) wrote a manuscript BaekSeungHoCho(百勝胡艸) in the late 19th century. BaekSeungHo-Cho was transcribed in classical Chinese from the 1879 Japanese book Physics(物理學) by Teizo Ihimori (1851-1916). Sang-Seol Lee, a famous independence activist, is also called Father of the Modern Mathematics Education of Korea,because of his early contribution to the modern mathematics education in the 19th century. In this paper, we introduce contents of his manuscript BaekSeungHoCho for the first time and discuss the significance of this book. Also, we show his constribution on the introduction to modern physics in the late 19th century Korea.

        Scaffolding strategies for young learners' EFL/ESL proficiency: focused on task-based activities

This study investigates the quality of three Korean children’s English development over the observation period and explores how efficiently their scaffolding and learning strategies affect their L2 improvement on the sociocultural perspectives, since the (co)relation to the strategies used by the children in the process of L2 learning/acquisition should presuppose improvement in their L2 use. It will suggest effective teaching and learning strategies, materials, and scaffolding strategies for parents or other family members as well as English teachers, by investigating the learning context and the children’s development of their English literacy and proficiency. The application of the teaching implication in an EFL classroom will be discussed. (University of Southampton, UK)

        This report outlines a ten-year(1976-1986) academic and physical development plan of Jeonbug National University. It was prepared over a period of ten months from April, 1976, to February, 1977, by a committee of five professors under the supervision of Dr. Chong Soon Lee. For a final report, the committee not only reviewed the past trend and patterns in the University's development and its present structures and conditions, both academic and physical, but also constantly consulted with Dr. Chong Supp Shim, president, the faculty, and experts in the field through meetings and questionaires. Consultation with them was paticularly needed in envisioning the future directions and possibilities for developing the University. The report presented here is a version revised and approved by the deans council of the University. Since its foundation in 1951, Jeonbug National University has grown from a small provincial institution into a full-scale national university. It now comprises seven colleges and three graduate schools, the students currently enrolled numbering around 5,500 and the faculty and administrative staff consisting of 750 employees. In keeping with the rapid growth of the nation and the governmental emphasis on developing provincial universities, the University is expected within ten years to develop into an academic institution consisting of eight colleges and six graduate schools. The number of undergraduate departments will increase from 40 to 61, and the number of students in attendance will amount to 10,000. In order to cope with this rapid increase in the number of departments and students, the academic plan of this report preseents a time-table of setting up new departments and makes a proposal for restructuring the University's academic and administrative systems. It also recommends that with the inception of the Research Foundation research activities will be systemitized and coordinated around ten major research institutes at the University. The physical development plan of the University has been in urgent need. The planning committe laid out a road construction plan mapping the entrances and major traffic routes on the campus. It also made proposals as to future building sites, centering around the central library under construction. The Medical School and its hospital, now in downtown Jeonju, are planned to be built on the 2nd campus east of the main campus. The University High School is also planned to move to the eastern part of the main campus. Besides the further construction of classroom and laboratory buildings, the University plans to construct an auditorium, an audio-visual center, a museum, a gymnasium, a new administration building, and other facilities. For the completion of these buildings, the estimated cost will amount to 200 billion won in total.

        측두부에 발생한 Cranial Fasciitis의 치험례

        Cranial fasciitis is a rare morphological variant of nodular fasciitis. It is characterized by a rapid growing fibroblastic proliferative lesion that develops chiefly in childhood. It has varying size and involves the soft tissues of the scalp and the underlying skull. Accurate diagnosis and surgical excision is the key to management. Prognosis is good with rare recurrence. We report a case of cranial fasciitis in the temporal fossa of a 20-month-old girl and present a review of the literature.

        Riboflavin(Vitamin B_2) is a component of two closely related coenzymes, flavin mononucleotide(FMN) and flavin adenine dinucleotide(FAD). Riboflavin tetrabutyrate is more fat-soluble than riboflavin, which is highly absorbed in vivo. and hydrolysed to give riboflavin. Riboflavin tetrabutyrate has always been synthesized by general method of ester. But the use of DMAP was found be very effective for esterification of riboflavin with butyric acid.

        Growth of Russian spring-summer encephalitis virus in established line of mosquito (Sigh's Aedes albopictus) cells was studied by infectivity ' titration of mouse lethal doses and observation of morphological changes on the infected cell monolayers. The cell line could support the multiplication of Russian spring summer encephalitis virus. The maximum virus titer of 10''0 mice LD50 was reached in 3 days after virus inoculation. Cytopathic effect was found on the whole monolayer from second post infective day and large round spherical cell aggregates were observed theereafter.

        The recovery of Cobalt(Co) and Tungsten Carbide(WC) from refractory scrap using electrolysis in an acid solution is studied. The method of electrochemical decomposition is a simple and economical process. The most important factor in the process of electrochemical decomposition is the component and concentration of electrolyte. The results show that the decomposition yield in sulfuric acid is better than other acid. This method is applicable for industrial process, because the decomposition yield is increased as scrap weight.

        흰쥐 성장기간에 따른 Xylene의 독성에 관한 연구

        실험동물에 있어서 연령 차이에 따라서 xylene 독성이 어떠한 차이가 있는지를 검토하는 일환으로 5주령 및 12주령 흰쥐에 50% m-xylene을 체중 100 g 당 0.25 ml씩 1회 투여한 다음 24시간 후에 처치하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. Xylene 투여로 인한 요 중 methylhippuric acid 함량은 5주령군이 12주령군에 비해 현저하게 높게 나타났다. 그리고 간조직 중 cytochroms P-450 함량은 대조군에 있어서 5주령군이 12주령군 보다 약 50% 정도 낮게 나타났으나 xylene 투여로 인한 cytochrome P-450 함량 증가율은 12주령군 보다 5주령군에서 높게 나타났다. 간 alcohol dehydrogenase 활성치도 대조군에 있어서는 5주령군이 12주령 보다 약 35% 정도 낮게 나타났으나 xylene 투여로 인한 본 효소의 활성 증가율은 5주령군에서 오히려 높게 나타났다. 그러나 간 aldehyde dehydrogenase 활성치는 대조군 및 xylene 투여군 모두 5주령과 12주령간에 유의한 차이를 나타내지 않았다. 한편 xylene 투여시 체중 당 간무게, 간조직 malondialdehyde 함량 및 혈청 ALT 활성 변동을 통하여 간손상 정도를 상호 비교 관찰하였을 때, 12주령군이 5주령 실험동물 보다 간손상이 다소 심하게 나타남을 알 수가 있었다. 이상 실험결과는 연령에 따라 xylene에 의한 간손상의 차이는 이물질의 생체내 대사율이 달리 나타나기 때문일 것으로 생각된다. To evaluate an effect of aging on the xylene toxicity, 50% m-xylene in olive oil (0.25 ml/100 g body wt.) was administered to 5 week and 12 week-old rats one times intraperitoneally and sacrificed at 24 hrs afterwards. The increasing rate of urinary H-methylhippuric acid concentration was higher in 12 week-old rats than 5 week-old rats by the treatment of m-xylene. On the liver function findings, i.e., liver weight/body weight (%), serum levels of ALT activity and hepatic malondialdehyde content, 12 week-old rats showed more severe liver injury than 5 weeks those in xylene-treated rats. And the hepatic cytochrome P-450 contents was higher in 12 weeks rats than those of in 5 week-old rats, but the increasing rate of that was lower in 12 week-old rats. Hepatic alcohol dehydrogenase activity was also higher in 12 week-old rats than in 5 week-old rats whereas the increasing rate of that was higher in 5 week-old than those in 12 week-old rats by the xylene treatment. Furthermore, the hepatic aldehyde dehydrogenase activities were no differences between the 5 and 12 week-old rats both in the control and xylene-treated group, In conclusion, age may influences upon the hepatotoxicity with xylene and it may be responsible for xylene metabolism in rats.
