Although low solid solubility and activity of LiFeO2in xLi2MnO3·(1–x)LiFeO2 limit its practical application, it still has thepotential to become a new-generation cathode material without cobalt or nickel for Li-ion batteries. In order to understand theeffects of the local structures of different LiMO2(M = Co, Ni, Fe) layered materials on their solid solubility in Li2MnO3,partialdensities of states are calculated to determine the Jahn–Teller distortion in the layered cathode material, and the first-principlescalculation method based on density functional theory is used to optimize and compare the local structures of LiCoO2,LiNiO2,LiFeO2,LiMnO2,and Li2MnO3. The degrees of distortion of the transition metal–oxygen (M–O) and lithium–oxygen (Li–O)octahedra in the crystal structure of the material are evaluated. It is clear that the solid solubility of layered materials is relatedto the bond lengths and degrees of distortion of the M–O and Li–O octahedra. Among them, the similar bond length of LiNiO2and Li2MnO3and the high distortion of NiO6enhance the solid solubility of LiNiO2in Li2MnO3. Owing to the absence ofJahn–Teller distortion in LiFeO2and LiCoO2,the FeO6and CoO6octahedra are slightly distorted, thereby decreasing thesolid solubility of LiMO2(M = Fe, Co) in Li2MnO3. Understanding the relation between intra-octahedral distortion and solidsolubility provides simple and efficient evidence for comparing the solid solubilities of different LiMO2layered materials inthe Li2MnO3of Li-rich cathode materials. This study can be used as a reference for component design in Li-rich materials.

The defatted seeds of Camellia oleifera (Abel.)are used for stopping itching and pain in old days, theeffective compounds need to be investigated. Sasanquasaponinas a rich fraction was extracted with 70 % ethanol,purified by AB-8 macro-reticular resin, crystallized in 80 %ethanol, and further hydrolyzed by 4 % hydroxyl potassiumor 2 M hydrochloride. Anti-inflammatory activities of theextracts were measured by carrageenan-induced paw edemain rats and croton oil induced ear inflammation in mice; theanalgesic activities were analyzed by hot plate test, aceticacid induced writhing in mice; the levels of pain mediatorsof IL-1b, TNF-a and PGE2 were determined; the antioxidativeactivities in vivo were evaluated by MDA, SOD andGSH-Px in serum of rats. The extracts showed significant(p\0.01) anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities,remarkably (p\0.01) inhibited production of pro-inflammatorycytokines and PGE2, decreased MDA and increasedSOD and GSH-Px in serum. Inhibition of IL-1b, TNF-a andPGE2 may contribute to their anti-inflammatory and analgesiceffects; elimination of free radicals is also involved. The sapogenin and acid hydrolyzed product have betteranti-inflammatory, analgesic effects, and stronger antioxidativeactivity than sasanquasaponin and alkaline hydrolyzedproduct, and they are better candidate medicines forinflammation and pain.

Biomass-derived levulinic acid (LA) and its esters are currently envisaged as versatile, renewable platform chemicals. In this study, cellulosic pulp derived from the cooking of lignocellulosic biomass with active oxygen and solid alkali was employed as raw material for the formation of LA or ethyl levulinate (EL). This pretreatment process is highly effective for the delignification and deconstruction of lignocellulose matrix, making a facile degradation of the resulting cellulosic pulp to LA or EL. At this point, the acid-catalyzed hydrolysis or ethanolysis of cellulosic pulp was optimized by response surface methodology (RSM), offering desirable LA yield of 65.3% or EL yield of 62.7%, which is significantly higher than those obtained from raw biomass. More importantly, coking behavior on the inwall of the reactor was eliminated during the hydrolysis or ethanolysis of cellulosic pulp, which is one of the top challenges for the acid-catalyzed conversion of biomass in an industrial scale.
One-pot synthesis of high fructose corn syrup directly from starch with SO42−/USY solid catalyst

An efficient process was developed for the conversion of starch directly into high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) by using SO4 2−/USY solid catalyst in water. The SO4 2−/USY catalyst was found to act as a bifunctional catalyst with high activity for both hydrolysis of starch and isomerization of glucose, achieving a one-step preparation path of HFCS from starch. An optimal HFCS yield, containing 58.34% glucose and 27.84% fructose (mass fraction), was obtained at 150 oC for only 1 h.

Superovulation, or ovarian stimulation is a commonly used ART for treatment of human infertility/subfertility. Recent studies suggest that superovulation unaffects methylated imprints acquisition in mouse oocytes during oogenesis, whereas disrupts DNA methylation maintenance in embryos during preimplantation development. However, the mechanisms of defects in methylation maintanence caused by superovulation remain largely unclear. We hypothesized that superovulation may disrupt the expression of DNA methyltransferases (Dnmts), the enzymes which catalyze DNA methylation acquisition and maintenance. The mice were subjected to superovulate with low (6 IU) and high (10 IU) dosage hormone. We examined the global DNA methylation levels in zygotes and DNA methylation of repeated sequences (IAP and Line 1) in blastocyst stage embryos. In addition, we investigated the expression of Dnmts (Dnmt3a, Dnmt3b, Dnmt3l and Dnmt1o) in ovulated oocytes and zygotes. Through staining with antibody 5mC and Di-H3K9 coupled with confocal microscopy, we found that global methylation profiles in zygotes derived from females after low or high dosage hormone treatment were not affected when compared to control counterpart. Moreover, methylation at IAP in blastocysts also was unaffected by superovulation, irrespective of hormone dosage. In contrast, methylation level at Line 1 decreased when the females were administered by high dosage hormone. Furthermore, expression of de novo DNA methyltransferase Dnmt3a, Dnmt3b, Dnmt3L, as well as maintenance Dnmt1o in MII oocytes and zygotes was not disrupted by superovulation. Given superovulation adversely affected methylation maintenance in blastocysts during preimplantation development but with normal expression of Dnmts in oocytes and zygotes, it is indicated that defects of embryonic methylation didn’t originate from abnormal expression of Dnmts.

This study aims to determine the polymorphism and mRNA expression pattern of the heart-type fatty acid-binding protein (H-FABP) gene and their association with intramuscular fat (IMF) content in the breast and leg muscles of Baicheng oil chicken (BOC). A total of 720 chickens, including 240 black Baicheng oil chicken (BBOC), 240 silky Baicheng oil chicken (SBOC), and 240 white Baicheng oil chicken (WBOC) were raised. Three genotypes of H-FABP gene second extron following AA, AB, and BB were detected by polymerase chain reaction-single strand conformation polymorphism (PCR-SSCP) strategy. The G939A site created AA genotype and G956A site created BB genotype. The content of IMF in AA genotype in breast muscle of BBOC was significantly higher than that of AB (p = 0.0176) and the genotype in leg muscle of WBOC was significantly higher than that of AB (p = 0.0145). The G939A site could be taken as genetic marker for higher IMF content selecting for breast muscle of BBOC and leg muscle of WBOC. The relative mRNA expression of H-FABP was measured by real-time PCR at 30, 60, 90, and 120 d. The IMF content significantly increased with age in both muscles. The mRNA expression level of H-FABP significantly decreased with age in both muscles of the three types of chickens. Moreover, a significant negative correlation between H-FABP abundance and IMF content in the leg muscles of WBOC (p = 0.035) was observed. The mRNA expression of H-FABP negatively correlated with the IMF content in both breast and leg muscles of BOC sat slaughter time.
