      • 지연유합과 불유합에서 저신호 강도 초음파의 유용성

        목 적 : 저 신호 강도 초음파를 이용한 지연유합과 불유합의 치료에 대한 유용성을 알아보고자 하였다. 대상 및 방법 : 2001년 7월부터 2002년 5월까지 본원에 내원한 지연유합 7례와 불유합 8례를 대상으로 5개월간 저 신호 강도 초음파로 치료하여 5개월후 골유합 여부를 알아 보았다. 결 과 : 총 15례 중 대퇴골 간부 2례, 경골 간부 1례, 상완골 간부 1례, 요골 1례의 지연유합에서 골유합을 얻었고 대퇴골 간부 불유합 3례에서 유합을 얻었다. 지연주합은 71%의 유합율을, 불유합은 37.5%의 유합율을 보였다. 결 론 : 저 신호 강도 초음파는 골유합을 촉진 시킬 수 있으며 지연유합에서 시도해 볼 만 하나 불유합 치료를 위해서는 보다 많은 연구가 필요 하다. Purpose : To evaluation of usefulness of low-intensity ultrasound for nonunion and delayed union. Materials and Methods : For 5 months, we treated 7 delayed union and 8 nonunion using low-intensity ultrasound. After 5 months, in checked X-ray AP and Lateral view, when cortical bridge formation was done, we through union. Results : In 7 delayed union, 5 cases-2 femur, tibia, humerus, radius were healed. In 8 nonunion, 3 femur nonunion were healed. Union rate was 71% in delayed union 37.5% in nonunion. Conclusion : we thought that the low-intensity ultrasound has capacity of induction of union and was considered as the method of treatment for delayed union.

      • Two-photon fluorescence sensors for imaging NMDA receptors and monitoring release of Zn<sup>2+</sup> from the presynaptic terminal

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Synaptic Zn<SUP>2+</SUP> plays an important role in neurotransmission and a neuromodulator. The development of the imaging tools for monitoring spatiotemporal changes taking place in synaptic Zn<SUP>2+</SUP> concentrations is necessary in order to understand the role of Zn<SUP>2+</SUP> in the function of many aspects of the glutamate system. In this work, two-photon probes <B>1</B> and <B>2</B>, bearing ifenprodil-like tails that have affinity for NMDA receptors of neuronal cells, were designed and prepared. The two-photon fluorescent probe <B>1</B>, which bears (N-(6-acetylnaphthalen-2-yl)-N-methylglycine) as two-photon fluorophore, enables high resolution imaging of neuronal cells. The two-photon fluorescent probe <B>2</B>, which contains the di-2-picolylamine (DPA) as a Zn<SUP>2+</SUP>-binding site, the naphthalimide unit as the two-photon fluorophore, and the ifenprodil-like tail as the NMDA receptor binding moiety, can be employed for selective detection of Zn<SUP>2+</SUP> located near the NMDA receptor and for monitoring concentration changes of Zn<SUP>2+</SUP> in live neurons and hippocampal tissues.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Two-photon probes <B>1</B> and <B>2</B>, bearing ifenprodil-like tails that have affinity for NMDA receptors of neuronal cells, were designed and synthesized. </LI> <LI> Probe <B>1</B> can be used to image NMDA receptors in neuronal cells with two-photon microscopy. </LI> <LI> Probe <B>2</B> was able to sensitively monitor Zn<SUP>2+</SUP> located near NMDA receptors. </LI> <LI> Probe <B>1</B> and <B>2</B> can be successfully applied to image NMDA receptors in hippocampal tissues for two-photon fluorescence imaging. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

        A Theoretical Reexamination of the π-Bond Strengths within the SiH2 XHn System

        In this work, we present a calculation of the π-bond energy in the SiH2 XHn system at the QCISD(T)/6-311+ +G(3df,2p) level combined with an isogyric correction, which shows that PSub-DSSE (partly substituted divalent state stabilization energy) is a reliable methodology for analyzing the properties of doubly bonded species by separating the dissociation and substitution effects on either side of the double bonds. Compared to the π-bond energies in the CH2 XHn system, those in the SiH2 XHn system have a better linear relationship with the electronegativity of the elementXbecause of the improvement of the correlation coefficient from 0.802 for the former to 0.924 for the latter. Thismeans that there must be another important factor that comes into effect in the CH2 XHn system. Through statistical analysis, the covalence difference between Si andXor C andX was finally selected as a second descriptor to explain the magnitude of the π-bond energies.

      • A Novel Active Image AuthenticationSchemefor Block Truncation Coding

        In this paper, a simple active image authentication scheme for the compressed images of block truncation coding (BTC) is proposed. In this scheme, the authentication codes of the compressed blocks are generated from the random value induced by the random seed. The authentication code of each compressed block is embedded into the bit map. The bit length of each authentication code can be chosen according to the user’s requirement. The experimental results indicate that the proposed scheme detects the tampered areas clearly and keeps good image qualities of the embedded images. Meanwhile, a low computational cost is required in the proposed scheme.

        Multi-Level Determinants of Initial and Sequential Investments in China by Korean Firms

        In this research, multi-level determinants that impel the fum s actions both in the context of initial investment and sequential investment were explored In addition, the authors tried to build a linkage between the initial investment and sequential investment to ascertain the different determinants. Data for 125 Korean small and medium sized enterprises doing business in China were used. According to empirical results, in the case of initial investment, findings revealed that fums which have previous international experience in foreign countries, with an advantage in specific capabilities such as capital allocation and R&D, and which are culturally close are more likely to do initial investment in China. As for sequential investment, it was shown that a firm s operations are better after its initial investment. Furthermore, the more same industry competitors invested in China, the more sequential FDI in China poured in be taken by Korean firms. Although the relationship between the firms marketing ability and the determinant of initial investment was not established in the study, the authors ascribe it to the varying behavior in the Korean firms investment strategies. Thus, there is a close relationship between the initial and sequential investment; however, some determinants differ in initial investment and sequential investment.

        Using Ultrasonography Measurements to Determine the Depth of the GB 21 Acupoint to Prevent Pneumothorax

        Introductions: Pneumothorax is the most frequent severe acupuncture-related adverse event occurring at the GB 21 acupoint. This study used ultrasonography (US) to measure the depth of the GB 21 acupoint in adults and assessed its applicability for ensuring safe acupuncture practices. Materials and methods: A US probe was used to measure the vertical depth from the skin to the pleural line of the apex of the lungs at the right and left GB 21 acupoints. The sex, age, body weight, height, and body mass index of each person were recorded. Student t test and generalized estimating equations were used for statistical analysis. Results: Sixty women and 41 men with a median age of 29 years were included in this study. The depth of GB 21 increased with body weight, height, and body mass index (p < 0.001). The mean depth of GB 21 in men (17.4 mm) was greater than that in women (14.6 mm;p < 0.001). The depth difference between the right and left shoulders was significant in men (p < 0.001) but not in women. Conclusions: US can be used to measure GB 21 acupoint depth. Further control studies on its use to ensure safe clinical practices, including preventing acupuncture-related pneumothorax, are warranted.

        The production technology and properties of an aluminum alloy processed by equal channel angular pressing

        Distribution of equivalent stress and equivalent strain was analyzed in the ECAP process based on material flow laws. Simulation results showed that severe plastic deformation occurred at the corner of the cavity, indicating a stress concentration at the equal channel angle. Distribution of stress and strain at the same section was not uniform. Equivalent stresses on the surface at the inside corner of the part were larger. Experimental results showed that forming speed and lubrication conditions had a great influence on quality of parts. The parts were in good condition with no wrinkle and rupture after ten ECAP passes. EBSD analyses showed that the original coarse grains were refined and uniformly distributed, and the average grain size of the cross section was about 620 nm after ten ECAP passes. With increasing the number of ECAP passes, the proportion of small angle grain boundaries decreased gradually and the ratio of large angle grain boundaries increased. Tensile strength and hardness increased sharply, while the elongation decreased sharply after the first ECAP pass. With succeeding the ECAP passes, the tensile strength, hardness and the elongation all increased slowly.

      • Micrococcus endophyticus sp. nov., isolated from surface-sterilized Aquilaria sinensis roots.

        <P>A Gram-positive bacterial strain, designated YIM 56238(T), was isolated from plant roots (Aquilaria sinensis), and characterized by using a polyphasic approach. Strain YIM 56238(T) grew optimally at pH 7.0-8.0 and at 28 degrees C. Analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequence of strain YIM 56238(T) indicated that it belongs to the genus Micrococcus. Chemotaxonomic data strongly supported the classification of this strain within the genus Micrococcus: the cell-wall peptidoglycan contained lysine, glutamic acid, alanine and glycine; the predominant menaquinones were MK-8(H(2)) (63.6 %) and MK-7(H(2)) (21.1 %); the phospholipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylinositol and an unknown ninhydrin-negative phospholipid; and the major cellular fatty acids were iso-C(15 : 0) (30.95 %) and anteiso-C(15 : 0) (53.75 %). The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 72.9 mol%. A number of physiological features were found that clearly distinguished strain YIM 56238(T) from recognized species of the genus Micrococcus. DNA-DNA hybridization studies suggested that the novel strain represents a separate genomic species. On the basis of the data, therefore, strain YIM 56238(T) represents a novel species of the genus Micrococcus, for which the name Micrococcus endophyticus sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is YIM 56238(T) (=DSM 17945(T)=KCTC 19156(T)).</P>
