        정봄이(Jung, Bomi),이상원(Lee, Sang Won),정몽희(Jung, Mong Hee) 학습자중심교과교육학회 2014 학습자중심교과교육연구 Vol.14 No.12

The purpose of this study was to investigate the utilization of the pro- environmental apps as learning materials in elementary environmental education through the analysis of the apps. In the pursuit of this purpose, 30 pro-environmental apps which is developed by public organizations and introduced by ‘Low Carbon Green Growth Expo 2012’ were analyzed by criterion of certification in learning software and the national standard guidelines for the environmental education. Then they were also analyzed by criterion of application and interaction types as educational apps. All the apps including the environmental education contents were suitable as elementary environmental learning materials. The suitability of each pro- environmental app as learning software have shown a little differently. But, it had high suitability as learning software, because developed to effectively in motivation of students in terms of the teaching strategies, and easy to use, reliable, and easy to manage/maintain in terms functional. As a result of analyzing the utilization and interation types of pro-environmental apps, it is shown that the most of apps categorized to be of either ‘data presentation’ or ‘tool’ type, and only between the learner and the contents type. Therefore, it is required for the teachers to complement limited types of utilization and interaction when designing the classes using the apps as education materials. The utilization of pro-environmental apps in the elementary environmental education are as follows. During class time, a classified table of pro- environmental apps which are classified by the contents system for the environmental education would be useful to connect with curriculum. And pro-environmental apps can be used extra-curricular activities such as a creative experiential activity as tools for environmental education. In conclusions, the continuous development and management of pro-environmental apps is needed to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of elementary environmental education.

      • Light-Induced Fluorescence Modulation of Quantum Dot-Crystal Violet Conjugates: Stochastic Off–On–Off Cycles for Multicolor Patterning and Super-Resolution

        Jung, Sungwook,Park, Joonhyuck,Bang, Jiwon,Kim, Jae-Yeol,Kim, Cheolhee,Jeon, Yongmoon,Lee, Seung Hwan,Jin, Ho,Choi, Sukyung,Kim, Bomi,Lee, Woo Jin,Pack, Chan-Gi,Lee, Jong-Bong,Lee, Nam Ki,Kim, Sungjee American Chemical Society 2017 JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY - Vol.139 No.22

<P>Photoswitching or modulation of quantum dots (QDs) can be promising for many fields that include display, memory, and super-resolution imaging. However, such modulations have mostly relied on photomodulations of conjugated molecules in QD vicinity, which typically require high power of high energy photons at UV. We report a visible light-induced facile modulation route for QD-dye conjugates. QD crystal violets conjugates (QD-CVs) were prepared and the crystal violet (CV) molecules on QD quenched the fluorescence efficiently. The fluorescence of QD-CVs showed a single cycle of emission burst as they go through three stages of (i) initially quenched off to (ii) photoactivated on as the result of chemical change of CVs induced by photoelectrons from QD and (iii) back to photodarkened off by radical-associated reactions. Multicolor on-demand photopatterning was demonstrated using QD-CV solid films. QD-CVs were introduced into cells, and excitation with visible light yielded photomodulation from off to on and off by nearly ten fold. Individual photoluminescence dynamics of QD-CVs was investigated using fluorescence correlation spectroscopy and single QD emission analysis, which revealed temporally stochastic photoactivations and photodarkenings. Exploiting the stochastic fluorescence burst of QD-CVs, simultaneous multicolor super-resolution localizations were demonstrated.</P>

Evaluation of Xpert Carba-R Assay v.2 to Detect Carbapenemase Genes in Two Hospitals in Korea

        Jung-Hyun Byun,Young Ah Kim,Milee Kim,Bomi Kim,최준용,Yoon Soo Park,용동은 대한진단검사의학회 2020 Annals of Laboratory Medicine Vol.40 No.3

Background: As the spread of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae poses a critical threat to public health, rapid detection of carbapenemase genes is urgently required for prompt initiation of appropriate antimicrobial therapy and infection control. We evaluated the performance of Xpert Carba-R v.2 (Cepheid, USA) compared with that of culture-based conventional PCR. Methods: Using the results of 5,479 consecutive clinical rectal swabs, discrepant analysis (enriched culture followed by PCR) was performed for all discordant samples (N=100), which were Carba-R v.2-positive and culture-negative. Results: Among the samples, 206 carbapenemase genes (3.6%) were detected by Carba-R v.2. The sensitivity and specificity were 95.0% and 98.1%, respectively. The positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) were 49.0% and 99.9%, respectively. Following discrepant analysis, the PPV increased to 73.5% and the low PPV (8.1%) of the 86 non-KPC improved to 48.8%. Among the 105 discrepancies, NDM was the most frequently observed (N=56), followed by KPC (N=26), VIM (N=10), IMP (N=8), OXA-48 (N=5). The threshold cycle values between discordant vs. concordant and resolved groups were significantly different (P<0.001). Conclusions: Carba-R v.2 is a rapid and sensitive method for detecting carbapenemase-encoding genes compared with culture-based conventional PCR. Most of our discrepant results were non-KPC genes. Thus, the clinical significance of the non-KPC positive cases detected by Carba-R v.2 should be investigated. This assay would be useful for deciding whether to isolate pre-exposed patients in hospital settings, based on the high specificity and NPV.

      • S-368 A case of isolated amebic lung abscess (extraintestinal amebiasis without hepatic involvement)

( Bomi Kim ),( Byung Ju Kang ),( Seung Won Ra ),( Kwang Won Seo ),( Yangjin Jegal ),( Jae-bum Jun ),( Jiwon Jung ),( Joseph Jeong ),( Jong Joon Ahn ),( Taehoon Lee ) 대한내과학회 2016 대한내과학회 추계학술대회 Vol.2016 No.1

Amebiasis is a disease caused by the protozoa Entamoeba histolytica. Although, most amebiasis are asymptomatic, intestinal amebiasis (amebic dysentery) and extraintestinal amebiasis might arise. Extraintestinal amebiasis occurs most frequently as liver abscess by portal venous inoculation of ameba. Occasionally, amebic liver abscess could rupture into thoracic cavity, complicating lung abscess. We recently experienced a case of amebic lung abscess without hepatic involvement. Since isolated amebic lung abscess has not been reported before, we report here the case. A 75-year-old woman was transferred to our hospital with a complaint of persistent fever. 15 days ago, she visited local hospital due to 1-day fever. There were no other symptoms/signs other than fever. On initial investigations, chest radiography was normal, and pyuria was observed. She was treated with ciprofloxacin under the diagnosis of urinary tract infection. Despite 5-day ciprofloxacin, fever persisted. Follow-up chest radiography showed consolidation of left lung. On chest computed tomography (CT), sub-lobar consolidation was noted at left upper lobe. She was hospitalized, and meropenem was started. Despite 10-day intravenous meropenem, fever was continued, and the lung consolidation was gradually changed into abscess. She was transferred to our hospital for further evaluation. Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) was performed at the site of lung abscess. On wet smear of BAL fluid, motile macrophage-like pathogens with pseudopod were noted. By iron-hematoxylin stain, it was confirmed as E. histolytica. Any other pathogens (including mycobacteria, fungus, bacteria, or virus) were not identified. Abdomen CT, sigmoidoscopy and stool microscopy were performed to detect the evidence of intestinal/hepatic amebiasis, but there was no abnormality. Isolated amebic lung abscess was diagnosed, and metronidazole was started. After 5 days of metronidazole, defervescence was achieved. The abscess also gradually shrinked. Metronidazole was used for 4 weeks, and she was completely recovered.

Mangiferin Ameliorates Scopolamine-Induced Learning Deficits in Mice

        Jung, Kangsik,Lee, Bomi,Han, Sang Jun,Ryu, Jong Hoon,Kim, Dong-Hyun Pharmaceutical Society of Japan 2009 Biological & pharmaceutical bulletin Vol.32 No.2

<P>The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of <I>Anemarrhena asphodeloides</I> <SMALL>BUNGE</SMALL> (AA) on cholinergic memory deficits in mice. This agent has previously been used as an antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, and antidepressant in traditional Chinese medicine. Mangiferin was isolated from AA and showed a dose-dependent inhibition of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity (IC50 value, 62.8 μ<SMALL>M</SMALL>). Cholinergic dysfunction was induced in mice by administering scopolamine, and the animals were then tested using the passive avoidance test as well as the Morris water maze test. Mangiferin (20 mg/kg, <I>p.o.</I>) significantly reversed scopolamine-induced deficits in the passive avoidance test, and also improved escape latencies in training trials and increased swimming times in the Morris water maze test (<I>p</I><0.05). Mangiferin also reduced acetylcholine and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α levels induced by scopolamine in mice brain (<I>p</I><0.05) and inhibited nuclear factor (NF)-κB activation in scopolamine or TNF-α-stimulated BV-2 microglial cells. These results suggest that mangiferin can improve long-term cholinergic memory deficits by AChE inhibition or cholinergic receptor stimulation and inhibition of NF-κB activation.</P>

      • A Simple Approach to Surface Modification Using Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) with Laminar and Turbulent Flows of Micro Plasma Jets at Atmospheric Pressure

        Jung, Heesoo,Gweon, Bomi,Kim, Dan Bee,Choe, Wonho WILEY‐VCH Verlag 2011 Plasma Processes and Polymers Vol.8 No.6

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Unlike large area plasmas, small size plasma jets could be useful in treating localized regions. For this reason, we developed a micro plasma jet having a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) part exposed to the discharge inside the plasma source. As the helium gas flow rate was raised from 0.1 to 6.0 slpm, the plasma exhibited a change in characteristic from laminar to turbulent and an abrupt change of appearance at a certain flow rate (2.0–3.0 slpm). The measured rotational temperature was above 500 K under laminar flow conditions, which was a sufficiently high temperature for the pyrolysis of PTFE, and the excitation temperature of the laminar flow was higher than that of the turbulent flow. The corresponding optical emission spectra were different (CN, C2, F I, Hα dominated for laminar conditions while N 2+<IMG src='/wiley-blackwell_img/equation/tex2gif-stack-1.gif' alt ='math image'/>, OH, O I dominated for turbulent flow conditions). These different plasma characteristics were obtained by simply controlling the gas flow rate. A feasibility study of surface modification demonstrated a change of the surface wettability from hydrophobic to hydrophilic (and vice versa) depending only on the gas flow rate. </P>

Factors Influencing Vaccination in Korea: Findings From Focus Group Interviews

        Park, Bomi,Choi, Eun Jeong,Park, Bohyun,Han, Hyejin,Cho, Su Jin,Choi, Hee Jung,Lee, Seonhwa,Park, Hyesook The Korean Society for Preventive Medicine 2018 예방의학회지 Vol.51 No.4

Objectives: Immunization is considered one of the most successful and cost-effective public health interventions protecting communities from preventable infectious diseases. The Korean government set up a dedicated workforce for national immunization in 2003, and since then has made strides in improving vaccination coverage across the nation. However, some groups remain relatively vulnerable and require intervention, and it is necessary to address unmet needs to prevent outbreaks of communicable diseases. This study was conducted to characterize persistent challenges to vaccination. Methods: The study adopted a qualitative method in accordance with the Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research checklist. Three focus group interviews were conducted with 15 professionals in charge of vaccination-related duties. The interviews were conducted according to a semi-structured guideline, and thematic analysis was carried out. Data saturation was confirmed when the researchers agreed that no more new codes could be found. Results: A total of 4 main topics and 11 subtopics were introduced regarding barriers to vaccination. The main topics were vaccine hesitancy, personal circumstances, lack of information, and misclassification. Among them, vaccine hesitancy was confirmed to be the most significant factor impeding vaccination. It was also found that the factors hindering vaccination had changed over time and disproportionately affected certain groups. Conclusions: The study identified ongoing unmet needs and barriers to vaccination despite the accomplishments of the National Immunization Program. The results have implications for establishing tailored interventions that target context- and group-specific barriers to improve timely and complete vaccination coverage.

Inhibitory effects of steroidal timosaponins isolated from the rhizomes of Anemarrhena asphodeloides against passive cutaneous anaphylaxis reaction and pruritus.

        Lee, Bomi,Trinh, Hien Trung,Jung, Kangsik,Han, Sang-Jun,Kim, Dong-Hyun Marcel Dekker 2010 IMMUNOPHARMACOLOGY AND IMMUNOTOXICOLOGY Vol.32 No.3

<P>To investigate the antiallergic effect of the rhizome of Anemarrhena asphodeloides (AA, family Liliaceae), which was found to inhibit the mouse passive cutaneous anaphylaxis (PCA) reaction induced by the antigen-immunoglobulin E (IgE) complex in preliminary experiments, main steroidal saponins, timosaponins AIII, BIII, and D, were isolated and their inhibitory effects against PCA reaction and scratching behaviors investigated in mice. Oral administration of three main steroidal sapogenins blocked the PCA reaction and scratching behaviors, timosaponin AIII was the most potent. However, intraperitoneal administration of timosaponin AIII showed weak inhibition. To understand its metabolism and antiallergic mechanism, timosaponin AIII was anaerobically incubated with human intestinal microflora to afford a main metabolite, sarsasapogenin. Intraperitoneal administration of sarsasapogenin inhibited allergic reaction more potently than timosaponin AIII. In addition, sarsasapogenin more potently inhibited degranulation and IL-4 protein expression of RBL-2H3 cells induced by IgE-antigen complex than timosaponin AIII. On the basis of these findings, antiallergic effect of AA may be due to those of its steroidal constituents, and that of timosaponin AIII may be activated by using intestinal microflora.</P>
