Awn is one of important traits during rice domestication. To understand the development of rice awn and the roles it played in rice domestication, we preliminary mapped a major QTL An-3 for awn development using chromosome segment substitution line CSSL138 developed by introgressed genomic fragments of long-awned Guangxi common wild rice (GXCWR, Oryza rufipogon Griff.) into genetic background of short-awned indica cultivar 93–11. An-3 was then fine mapped to a 7-kb region of chromosome 8. An epidermal patterning factor-like protein gene was identified as the single candidate gene corresponding to this QTL. An-3 was showed to be an allele of RAE2 and GAD1, and negatively regulated 1000-grains weight, grain length, and length–width ratio. Comparing with the coding sequences of An-3 from CSSL138, a 2- and 4-bp frameshift deletions in the second exon were identified in 93–11 and Nipponbare, respectively. Taken together, our results provide valuable natural variation in the alleles of An-3 between common wild rice and cultivated rice, which will be helpful in clarifying the mechanism of awn development and promoting the application of an-3 in genetic improvement of rice yield traits.
Multi-Value Attribute Concept Lattice Reduction Based on Granular Computing
Hongcan Yan Feng Zhang,Baoxiang Liu 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Grid and Distributed Comp Vol.9 No.1
Concept lattice essentially describes the relationship between objects and attributes. The reduction of multi-value attribute concept lattice is a hot topic in the fields of information retrieval, knowledge discovery and data mining etc., while the granular computing emphasizes observing and analyzing the same problem from different granular worlds. It makes the complex problems around us be mapped to an easy to handle and more simple theory of calculation. The paper gives definitions of the concept granule and the compatible concept granular set by application of information granular and the granular of layered theory, and provides an algorithm to compute concept granular set through calculation of the compatible relationship. The paper further constructs the concept granule lattice, and then deletes the attribute of smaller contribution to concept granule. Through the comparison of the concept granule lattices, the multi-value attribute reduction could be achieved and the core attribute set in the formal context could be obtained. Instances could demonstrate the high efficiency and accuracy of this algorithm that is easier to realize through programming. Through the resolution of attribute, the calculation complexity could be reduced and the efficiency of calculation could be improved.

A fluorescent microsphere-based immunochromatographic strip test (FICT) was developed for the rapid, sensitive, and quantitative detection of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) antibodies at the pen-side. The assay was based on the formation of a sandwich immune-complex (anti-pig IgG-PRRSV antibodies-NSP7/N), which was validated by a comparison with IDEXX-ELISA using 3325 clinical specimens. The diagnostic specificity, sensitivity, and accuracy of FICT were 97.28, 93.41, and 94.95%, respectively. FICT showed a good correlation with the virus neutralization assay. Overall, a promising pen-side diagnostic tool was developed for the rapid and quantitative detection of PRRSV antibodies within 15 min.

A methylation-sensitive amplification polymorphism method based on capillary electrophoresis was used to analyze DNA methylation levels in three cotton accessions, two salt-tolerant accessions CCRI 35 and Zhong 07 and one salt-sensitive accession CCRI 12. Many categories of DNA methylation happened in the three cotton accessions under salt treatment, including hypermethylation, hypomethylation, and other patterns. Hypermethylation happened at a significantly higher rate than that of hypomethylation in salt-tolerant accessions CCRI 35 and Zhong 07. On the contrary, in salt-sensitive accession CCRI 12, hypomethylation happened at a significantly higher rate than that of hypermethylation. In general, the global DNA methylation level significantly increased under salt stress in both salt-tolerant accessions CCRI 35 and Zhong 07, whereas there was no significant difference in the salt-sensitive accessions CCRI 12. Our results suggested that salt-tolerant cotton might have a mechanism of increasing the methylation level when responding to salt stress; the increase of the global level of DNA methylation and also different methylation patterns might play important roles in tolerance to salt stress in cotton. Some interesting genes were found through cloning and analysis of differently methylated DNA sequences, which might contribute to salt tolerance in cotton.
