In this paper, the dynamic analysis of a dolphin system for mooring a floating structure such as barge mounted plant is studied. The characteristics of the soil-pile system are simplified by a set of equivalent spring elements at the mudline. To evaluate the equivalent spring constants, the finite difference method is used. Since the characteristics of the soil-pile system are nonlinear in case of soft foundation, the nonlinear dynamic analysis technique is needed. The Newmark β method incorporating the modified Newton-Raphson method(initial stiffness method) is used. A numerical analysis is performed on two mooring dolphin systems on soft foundation and rock foundation. In case of the rock foundation, the characteristics are found to be nearly linear, so the linear dynamic analysis may be sufficient to consider the foundation effect. But in case of soft foundation, the non-linearity of the foundation appears to be very significant, so the nonlinear dynamic analysis is needed.

Rapid on-site monitoring of heavy metals in plants is necessary to minimize the exposure of humans to the contaminated food. The potential of using anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV) for simultaneous determination of cadimium (Cd) and lead (Pb) in rice was evaluated. Eight different Korean polished rices were digested using concentrated HNO3 solution in a microwave oven. The peak currents measured with an in situ bismuth-coated electrode were linearly proportional to Cd and Pb concentrations (1.5 to 200 ppb) in 0.1 M HNO3 (R2 ≥0.98). The electrode was feasible for measuring Pb in acid digests of the tested polished rices with measurement errors of <16.3 ppb. However, even though there was acceptable agreement in 4 of the 8 samples tested for Cd between the ASV and inductively coupled argon plasma (ICP) methods,further studies would be needed to improve the predictive capability of the electrode while reducing the variability in measurement and lowering the detection limit.

In this study, conjugate fibers were prepared from 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol-modified polyethylene terephthalate (PET) resin using side by side conjugate spinning, sea-island type conjugate spinning, and split type conjugate spinning methods, and the properties of the conjugate fibers were investigated via several techniques. When viscosity increased, the tenacity of side by side conjugate fibers was increased, whereas elongation decreased. The sea-island conjugate fibers showed lower weight loss and surface color difference (K/S) values relative to that of regular PET fibers at the same conditions. The SEM results indicate that orange type spilt readily produced at a temperature range of 120 - 140$^{\circ}C$.

A new spray chrysanthemum (Dendranthema grandiflorum) cultivar Charming Eye was bred by crossing betweenGrand Pink and Sion. Its characteristics were investigated from 2002 to 2004 under shading culture in summer and retardingculture in spring. The natural flowering time of Charming Eye was late October, but year-round production was possible by shad-ing and lighting. It had flower diameter of 6.2 cm, 40 petals and 9 flowers per stem in summer. The petal was wide (1.1 cm) andthe color of petal was pink with presence of light green at flower center. Days to flower from short-day start for Charming Eyewas about 56 in spring. Charming Eye showed the vase life of 17 days in autumn.
Rapid Prediction of Amylose Content of Polished Rice by Fourier Transform Near-Infrared Spectroscopy

Fourier transform near-infrared (FT-NIR) spectroscopy and partial least squares (PLS) regression were used to predict the amylose content of polished rice. Spectral reflectance data in a wavelength range of 1,000 to 2,500 nm were obtained with a commercial spectrophotometer for 60 different varieties of Korean rice. For a comparison of this spectroscopic method to a standard chemical analysis, the amylose contents of the tested rice samples were determined by the iodine-blue colorimetric method. The hughest correlation for the amylose (R2=0.94, standard error of prediction=0.20% amylose content) was obtained when using the FT_NIR spectrum data pre-treated with normalization, the first derivative, smoothing, and scattering correction.
