        Heme oxygenase-1 induced by desoxo-narchinol-A attenuated the severity of acute pancreatitis via blockade of neutrophil infiltration

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) has an anti-inflammatory action in acute pancreatitis (AP). However, its mechanism of action and natural compounds/drugs to induce HO-1 in pancreas are not well understood. In this study, we investigated the regulatory mechanisms of HO-1 during AP using desoxo-narchinol-A (DN), the natural compound inducing HO-1 in the pancreas. Female C57/BL6 Mice were intraperitoneally injected with supramaximal concentrations of cerulein (50 μg/kg) hourly for 6 h to induce AP. DMSO or DN was administered intraperitoneally, then mice were sacrificed 6 h after the final cerulein injection. Administration of DN increased pancreatic HO-1 expression through activation of activating protein-1, mediated by mitogen-activated protein kinases. Furthermore, DN treatment reduced the pancreatic weight-to-body weight ratio as well as production of digestive enzymes and pro-inflammatory cytokines. Inhibition of HO-1 by tin protoporphyrin IX abolished the protective effects of DN on pancreatic damage. Additionally, DN treatment inhibited neutrophil infiltration into the pancreas via regulation of chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 2 (CXCL2) by HO-1.       • 2차병원에서의 소아과 환자의 응급실 및 외래 이용에 관한 연구

        Objectives : To analyze the characteristics of the pediatric patients who visited the emergency room and outpatient department of secondary hospital in order to properly guide pediatric patients to use emergency room and raise the efficiency Methods : The authors investigated and analyzed sex, age, visit day, visit time, length of stay, hospitalization and diagnostic entities of the pediatric patients who visited the emergency room and outpatient department of Wallace Memorial Baptist Hospital from January 2003 to December 2005 in a retroactive approach with their medical records. Results : For the three years, the number of total patients who visited the emergency room was 56,051 and among them, the number of pediatric patients was 7,490 (13.4%). The age group of 1 to 2 years was the largest with 2,488 (33.2%). The male to female ratio was 1.34:1. Sunday was the day of the week that the largest number of patienst visited with 2,375 (31.7%) and nearly half (48.4%) of the patients visited the emergency room during the weekend. The time when the most patient visited the emergency room was between 8 pm to 12 am. Regarding the length of stay, the highest number of patients (65.0%) stayed in the emergency room for on hour or less, and the average length of visit was 1.5 hours, which was rather short. Most patients (68.8%) left the hospital after taking simple physical examination and procedure(prescription). The most frequent diagnoses for the pediatric patients who visited the emergency room were acute pharyngitis (26.0%), acute gastroenteritis (20.7%), fever (6.6%). During the same period, the total number of pediatric patients who visited the outpatient department was 125,513. The age group of 3 to 5 was the largest with 36,041 (28.7%). The male to female ratio was 1.34:1. 6.0% of total outpatients required treatment in a hospital. Most frequent diagnoses of the outpatients were asthma (24.4%), pneumonia (12.0%), vaccination (8.7%), febrile convulsion (8.4%), acute pharyngitis (6.6%), acute gastroenteritis (5.8%). Conclusion : It is considered that a large number of pediatric patients still have used emergency room for treatment of simple and mild diseases instead of visiting outpatient department and/or primary hospital. Thus further efforts are required to properly guide pediatric patients to use emergency room and to raise the efficiency of their use.

        한국 정신장애의 역학 조사 연구[I] : 각 정신장애의 유병률

        Objectives : This study aims to estimate the prevalence of the DSM-IV psychiatric disorders in Korean population using the Korean version of Composite International Diagnostic Interview (K-CIDI). Methods : Subjects were selected by taking multi-stage, cluster samples of 7,867 adult household residents, 18 to 64 years of age, in ten catchment areas. Total 78 trained interviewers administered the K-CIDI to the selected respondents, from June 1 to November30,2001. Results : Total 6,275 respondents completed the interview. Some 33.5% of respondents reported at least one lifetime disorder, 20.6% reported at least one-year disorder, and 16.7% reported at least one-month disorder. The most common lifetime disorders were alcohol abuse/dependence (17.24%), nicotine dependence/withdrawal (11.19%), specific phobia (5.16%), and major de-pressive disorder (4.25%). The lifetime prevalence of substance abuse/dependence (0.25%) and schizophrenia (0.16%) was very low. Nicotine and alcohol use disorder showed very high male/female ratio. Mood disorder and anxiety disorder were more prevalent among female than male. Conclusion : The prevalence of psychiatric disorders was high. In comparison with other studies, remarkable differences in distributions of psychiatric disorders across the areas and times were observed.

        신규 방사성 항암제 DW-166HC 의 소핵시험

        DW-166HC (^(166)Holmium (^(166)Ho)-Chitosan complex) is a new radiopharmaceutic anticancer agent with a broad anti-tumorigenic spectrum, especially against human hepatic cancer. DW-166HC was evaluated for the appearance of micronucleus in polychromatic erythrocytes (PCEs) of mouse bone marrow cells after subcutaneous arid intravenous single administration. Bone marrow cells were prepared at 24 hr and 48 hr after DW-166HC-I (^(165)Ho-Chitosan complex : cold compound) administration and at 24 hr, 72 hr and 2 weeks after DW-166HC (^(166)Ho-Chitosan complex : hot compound) administration. The results showed there was no statistically significant increase of the numbers of PCEs with micronucleus in all DW-166HC-I administered groups compared with a negative control group but there was statistically significant increase of the numbers of PCEs with micronucleus at 24 hr arid 72 hr in all DW-166HC administered groups, which was recovered after 2 weeks from the drug administration. The results also showed the ratio of normochromatic erythrocytes (NCEs) to PCEs of all DW-166HC-I administered groups was not significantly different from that of a negative controi group but there was significant difference of this ratio at 24hr and 72 hr in all DW-166HC administered groups compared with that of negative group, which was also recovered after two weeks from the drug administration. These results suggested that DW-166HC-I may not cause any chromosomal damage but DW-166HC has in vivo mutagenic potential because of its radioactivity.

      • 청각 이미지와 의복 이미지의 관련성에 대한 탐색 :성격, 성별,의복관심의 영향을 중심으로

        This study exploratory examined the relationship between auditory images and clothing style images of young consumers by their personality types, sex and clothing interest. A questionnaire was developed to measure auditory images, clothing style images, personality types, clothing interest and demographic variables. Scale items were adopted from prior studies on clothing self images and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) known to measure psychological types. 120 undergraduate students with diverse majors were the respondents of the empirical study. MBTI categorized respondents into one of 3 personality types, IFT (Introversion and Thinking or Feeling, n=23), EF (Extroversion and Feeling, n=73) and ET (Extroversion and Thinking, n=24). ANOVA results indicated that, among 13 auditory images measured in the study, rational, self-confident and social images were significantly different across three personality type groups. Overall, ET group showed higher level of the the auditory images. Among clothing style images, social images were significantly different. IET group showed significantly lower level of social images. In addition, respodents' age and level of clothing interest influenced auditory and clothing style images. Correlation coefficients indicated that there were significant relationships between most auditory and clothing style images included in the study except for the self-confident image.

      • 추적자 실험을 이용한 응집/침전지 수리학적 특성의 동시평가

        추적자 실험은 정수당 단위공정들의 수리학적 특성을 평가하기 위한 방법으로 사용되어 왔으나, 정수장의 각 단위공정들은 규모가 크고 처리 유량이 많아 실험이 용이하지 않고 결과의 해석도 쉽지 않다. 이에 본 연구에서는 실제 정수장 3곳의 응접지와 침전지를 대상으로 동시에 추적자 실험을 수행하는 방법과 결과의 해석기법(index법, Rebhun and Argaman이 제시한 도식해법)에 대해서 소개하였다. 추적자 실험 결과 대부분 정수장의 응집지는 실제 체류시간이 이론적 체류시간과 거의 유사했으나, 침전지의 경우에는 실제 체류시간이 이론적 체류시간에 훨씬 미치지 못하는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 침전지 하부의 슬러지와 밀도류에 의한 것으로 판단되며, 이로 인해 플락이 침강하기 전에 웨어로 유출되어 여과지의 지속시간 단축, 역세척시 탁질 누출 등의 여과지에 악영향을 미칠 수 있을 것으로 생각된다. 또한, 추적자 실험결과에 의해 동일한 정수장에 위치한 2개의 응집지와 침전지에 유량이 분배되는 특성도 알 수 있었다. 결론적으로 기존의 index법을 이용하여 응집지와 침전지의 수리학적 유체흐름 특성(back mixing, short-circuiting)을 파악할 수 있었으며, Rebhun과 Argaman이 제시한 수학적인 방법을 사용하여 압출형 흐름 분율(p). 완전혼합 흐름 분율(1-p), 그리고 사수부(m) 분율을 정량적으로 제시할 수 있었다. The tracer tests were used to evaluate for hydraulic characteristics of the unit process in water treatment plant(WTP). But, the tracer tests were difficult to analysis of results and to conducted for the test because of large flow and huge scale of unit processes in WTP. In order to introduce simultaneous performance to tracer test and analysis method of results(index method, Rebhun and Argaman method), the three real WTPs(CJ. DS, and DW) which have the flocculation and sedimentation basin were investigated. The actual detention time of flocculation basin in the majority WTPs were almost similar to theoretical detention time. But, that of sedimentation basin were far more short than theoretical detention time. This phenomenon might be due to the volume reduction of sedimentation basin by sludge and density flow (short-circuiting) under the sedimentation basin. Thereby the flocs, which carried over the weir before settle in sedimentation basin, were bad effect for downstream unit process such as filtration according to reduction of filter run time and turbidity breakthrough after filter back wash. According to the result of tracer test and flow distribution characteristics were evaluated between two flocculation and sedimentation basins in WTP. The hydraulic characteristics(back mixing, short-circuiting) of flocculation and sedimentation basin using the conventional index method were evaluated and the plug flow fraction(p), complete flow fraction(1-p), and the extent of dead spaces(m) were quantitatively determined using the mathematical and experimental analyses by Rebhun and Argaman method.

      • C6 glia 세포에서 유도성 Nitric Oxide Synthase 유전자 발현조절에 관한 연구

        To investigate transcriptional regulation of iNOS gene by LPS and cytokines, the production of NO, expression of iNOS mRNA and protein, binding activity of nuclear factor-kappa B(NF-kB), and promoter activity of iNOS gene were examined in rat C6 glial cells. LPS, interferon-gamma(IFN-γ), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) stimulated the production of NO, which was increased synergistically by co-treatment. By the treatment of LPS, iNOS mRNA expression was initiated at 1 h, markedly increased by 3 h, and decreased gradually afterward. iNOS mRNA expression was markedly enhanced by mixture of LPS, IFN-γ and TNF-α. iNOS protein synthesis was increased by the treatment of mixture LPS and cytokine mixture. Treatment of LPS stimulated NF-kB activation, and the activation reached to the maximum level at 30 min, and the treatment of mixture of LPS and cytokines increased the activation. To determine the effect of NF-kB binding activity on iNOS promoter activation, CAT assay was performed. iNOS promoter activity was increased by the treatment with LPS for 5.5 h, and further increased by the combined treatment with LPS and cytokines. These results suggest that NF-kB activation by LPS and cytokines may play a significant role in the induction of the iNOS gene.

        This paper has shown that it is possible to improve the dynamic characteristics and position accuracy in Linear stepping Motor by the exciting methodes. The experimental results of 1-2øexciting circuit are as follows: 1) Comparing with 2ø exciting circuit maximum starting pulse rate, maximum slewing pulse rate, and dynamic thrust were respectively increased 30%, 15% and 5%. 2) Comparing with 2ø exciting circuit improved position Accuracy.

        Power Electronics technology based on Power Semiconductor switching devices(PSSD) is used extensively as a mean to control electrical energy in domestic and industry applications. This paper presents new driving circuits considering characteristics of PSSDs, which can drive SIT and SI-Thyrister having potentiality of applications in future industry. And it is shown that the proposed design method can be applied to main power convertion circuits.

        In the third generation of mobile computing environment, the applications that are compatible with small members of group in which the applications join the multicast sessions such as Internet phone, video conference and networked games are more prevalent. However, since the traditional multicast mechanisms supporting the mobile computing are suitable for large members of group in the multicast session, we need to consider a new mechanism to complement them. Therefore, in this paper we suggest a new multicast model that adopted explicit multicast(xcast), which has more gradual deployment with legacy Internet backbone. This proposed model is cost-effective and more scalable and guarantees the QoS in mobile computing.
