2000 Korean Journal of Anesthesiology Vol.38 No.2
Background : Activated clotting time (ACT) and thromboelastography (TEG) are generally accepted as adequate measures of the coagulation system for monitoring of the cardiac system. Aprotinin is alleged to affect ACT and TEG. We performed this study to see if the determination of ACT and TEG can provide a basis for the assessment of coagulation and the prediction of postoperative hemorrhage in cardiac surgical patients treated with aprotinin. Methods : Twenty patients undergoing cardiac operation were studied. The values (control) of ACT and TEG were obtained just after induction of anesthesia. Each patient was fully heparinized and received aprotinin, 2,000,000 KIU added to the prime solution. At the end of the procedure, protamine, 3 mg/kg was given for the neutralization of heparin, Measurement of ACT and TEG were made 20 minutes after the administration of protamine, at the end of surgery, and 1 hour after transfer to ICU. The values were compared with the amount of hemorrage collected by chest tubes 1 hour, 2 hours and 8 hours after transferred to ICU. Results : The values of ACT at 20 minutes after protamine administration and at the end of surgery significantly (P $lt; 0.05) increased compared with the values of control, but the values in ICU did not show significant change. All values of TEG significantly (P $lt; 0.05) changed compared with the values of control. No single variable of ACT and TEG showed correlation with the amount of hemorrhage through chest tubing postoperatively. Conclusions : The results indicate that neither ACT nor TEG predict the amount of postperative hemor- rhage in aprotinin-treated patients having cardiac surgery. Therefore the TEG results should be interpreted cautiously because of the high rate of unreliable results. (Korean J Anesthesiol 2000; 38: 307~313)
Vol.38 No.2
In this research, we applied the effect of ARCS learning strategies on scientific attitude, selfefficacy and learning achievement in the elementary science class. The results were as follows: First, the elementary science class through ARCS strategy improved scientific attitude positively. In subcategories of scientific attitude, it was effective on openness, criticism and reserving judgement. It is considered that there was a positive improvement due to various activities in the science class through ARCS strategies. Second, the science class through ARCS strategy had positive efficiency on the improvement of self-efficacy for the learners. Third, the science class through ARCS strategies contributed to the improvement of science learning achievement. As elementary science class through ARCS strategies using motivation strategy was effective on not only emotional but also cognitive domains, these strategies needed to make a positive using.

Epoxy kraft lignin (EKL) was prepared by substituting the hydroxyl groups of kraft lignin with epoxide groups. Subsequently, 3,4-dihydroxybenzylamine (DHBA) was introduced to the prepared EKL substituted with DHBA (EKL-DHBA) to impart antioxidant and ultraviolet (UV) light blocking properties. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and 1 H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy confirmed that the DHBA moiety had been grafted successfully onto the lignin macromolecule. Additionally, 31P NMR analysis revealed that EKL-DHBA had a higher content of phenolic hydroxyl groups than KL, owing to catechol structure substitution. EKL-DHBA/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) films were prepared and their antioxidant and UV blocking properties were investigated. The antioxidant activity of the film prepared adding 1 wt.% of EKL-DHBA was 93.15%, which was higher than that of ethanol soluble kraft lignin (EL). Furthermore, the EKL-DHBA/ PVA film exhibited excellent UV blocking properties of approximately 96.75% –86.12% in UV-B (280-320 nm) and 86.12% in UV-A (280-400 nm) regions. Thus, the UV blocking properties of the EKL-DHBA/PVA film was much higher than that of EL or PVA film. Therefore, EKL-DHBAs with excellent antioxidant and UV blocking properties are potential additives to composite biomaterials. .

Vol.25 No.3
In this paper, in order to overcome shortcomings of manual inspection for the automotive PWM Shaft, we developed an automated inline inspection system. The automated inline inspection system consists of the work feeder unit, conveying unit, outer diameter check unit, run-out and roundness check unit, machine vision, defective separation unit and status alarm unit. We used the machine vision system for automatic inspection process and designed the inline systems for automatic feeding and selecting process. Also the repeated operation test was performed in order to verify the precision and reliability of the proposed automated inline inspection system.
Vol.32 No.1
4MAT model', the learning program McCarthy suggested, is divided into 4 quadrants which are learned by circulating itself to be experienced both preferred and non-preferred students' learning styles to make effective and efficient learning. In this respect, the instruction and learning appling 4MAT learning model is one of the effective and efficient instruction models for all learners to study science. In this study, we developed teaching and learning materials appling 4MAT learning model in 'Appearance of various animals' unit of the 4th grade in elementary school science to make effective instruction and learning. Also the teaching plan was developed for learners to study with the left and right brain and to experience non-preferred learning styles in order to progress the whole brain learning.
