Purpose: Many concerns have appeared in banking sector in the digital era and one of them is that technology development will increase operation costs of banks. Motivated by this issue, our study aims to explore the effect of technological and digital investments on costeffectiveness of banking operation. Research design, data and methodology: To reach a clear answer, we use the data of 12 commercial banks spanning from 2011 to 2020 in Vietnam and employ multivariate regression analysis as well as perform various robustness tests. Results: Our regression result indicates that the adverse effect of technological spending on cost-effective operation. This finding still remains unchanged when we conduct different robust tests. Also, we find that this negative impact becomes more evident in large banks than in small ones. Conclusions: The paper provides one of the most important empirical results for mangers and policy-makers in banking sphere, especially in Vietnam where regulators have been calling for continuously investing into technological innovation in banks. The evidence confirms that banks should carefully consider an increase in spending on distribution information and communication technologies when constructing business strategies related to expanding digitalization. Our research is also useful for countries having similar financial structure to Vietnam.

While the efficient usage of biomass waste can significantly help in addressing environmental issues, there are only a few reports that discuss about processing such waste effectively at a low-cost. Such challengearises from the strong association between the components biomass. In this study, an abundantagricultural byproduct, rice husk (RH), was used as the starting resource. A simple biorefining processof alkaline peroxide treatment followed by acid precipitation and ethanol extraction was performed onRH to obtain cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, and silica. The chemical structures, morphologies, andphysic-chemical properties of the separated components were identified through a wide range of characterizationapproaches. The final products obtained from of this process were (i) bundles of fiber-likecellulose with a fiber width of 6 mm and (ii) small particles of hemicellulose and lignin with nonuniformshapes. The lignocelluloses products had over 90 wt% carbon with 52.28% crystalline ratio. Meanwhile, the other products comprising hemicelluloses, lignin, and silica were amorphous. The outcomeof this study contributes to expanding and developing the simple and efficient conversion processof biomass waste into sustainable value-added materials. It is crucial to reduce the environmental impactby using renewable materials as the new building block resources for synthetic chemicals.

The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the Vietnamese economy. In the midst of a complex disease that compelled people to limit their interaction, customers’ shopping habits shifted from “offline” to “online” transactions. Mobile payments have also grown in popularity. The goal of this study is to figure out what factors influence the use of mobile payments by hotel clients in Can Tho after COVID-19. The research team also examines how those factors influence customers’ willingness to use mobile payment and makes recommendations to better the current situation. Primary data was collected from 227 persons using online surveys and processed with SPSS software for this study. To analyze the correlation relationship between the elements determining the intention to use, the Cronbach alpha, EFA, Correlation, and Regression methods used to assess the scale are applied. Perceived Trustworthiness, Perceived Usefulness, and Perceived Ease of Use all have positive effects on customers’ propensity to use, according to the findings. Perceived Security, on the other hand, has no bearing. The findings of this study have significant theoretical and practical implications for the development of mobile payment services in Can Tho, particularly following the implementation of COVID-19.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to characterize mental health issues among Vietnamese healthcare workers (HCWs) and to identify related factors. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 990 HCWs in 2021. Their mental health status was measured using the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale. Results: In total, 49.9%, 52.3%, and 29.8% of respondents were found to have depression, anxiety, and stress, respectively. The multivariable linear regression model revealed that factors associated with increased anxiety scores included depression scores (β, 0.45; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.39 to 0.51) and stress scores (β, 0.46; 95% CI, 0.41 to 0.52). Factors associated with increased depression scores included being frontline HCWs (β, 0.57; 95% CI, 0.10 to 1.10), stress scores (β, 0.50; 95% CI, 0.45 to 0.56), and anxiety scores (β, 0.41; 95% CI, 0.36 to 0.47), while working experience was associated with reduced depression scores (β, -0.08; 95% CI, -0.16 to -0.01). Factors associated with increased stress scores included working experience (β, 0.08; 95% CI, 0.00 to 0.16), personal protective equipment interference with daily activities (β, 0.55; 95% CI, 0.07 to 1.00), depression scores (β, 0.54; 95% CI, 0.48 to 0.59), and anxiety scores (β, 0.45; 95% CI, 0.39 to 0.50), while age was associated with reduced stress scores (β, -0.12; 95% CI, -0.20 to -0.05).Conclusions: Specific interventions are necessary to enhance and promote the mental health of HCWs so they can successfully cope with the circumstances of the pandemic.

Eight compounds were isolated from methanol extract of Plantago major L. leaves and investigated for their ability to inhibit angiotensin I-converting enzyme activity. Among them, compound 1 showed the most potent inhibition with rate of 28.06 ± 0.21% at a concentration of 100 μM. Compounds 2 and 8 exhibited weak activities. These results suggest that compound 1 might contribute to the ability of P. major to inhibit the activity of angiotensin I- converting enzyme.
Applications of Magnetite Nanoparticles for Water Treatment and for DNA and Cell Separation
Nguyen Hoang Hai,Nguyen Chau,Nguyen Hoang Luong,Nguyen Thi Van Anh,Phan Tuan Nghia 한국물리학회 2008 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.53 No.3
Magnetic nanoparticles with a diameter of 15 nm prepared by using the coprecipitation method have been applied to enforce the sedimentation of the solid waste, to adsorb the arsenic ions in water, to increase the DNA concentration by using a magnetic eld for the electrochemical DNA sensor and to separate the helper CD4+ T cells to determine the number of the cells in blood. A combination of magnetic nanoparticles and alum makes the solid waste in water under a magnetic field aggregate a dozen times faster than under the gravity alone. A concentration of 0.1 mg/l of arsenic in water was reduced to a value lower than the permissible concentration of 0.01 mg/l after few minutes of stirring. The particles functionalized with 3-aminopropyl triethoxysilane were used to enrich the DNA of the Herpes virus, which extended the sensitivity of an electrochemical sensor down to a concentration lower than nM/l. The particles coated with fluorescent-labeled antiCD4 antibody were used to count the helper CD4+ T cells. The fluorescence signals of the particle/cell system were two times stronger than those of the uorescence antiCD4 cell system. This can be used for the treatment of an HIV-infected patient with a simple fluorescent microscope. Among 90 Vietnamese medicinal plant extracts investigated for their antioxidant activity by DPPH assay at various concentrations from 10 - 100 ?g/mL, 67 showed an inhibition rate over 50% at 100 ?g/mL; 47 had greater than 50% inhibition at 50 ?g/mL; 17 showed over 50% inhibition at 25 ?g/mL. 8 extracts which exhibited strong inhibitory activity more than 50% inhibition at 10 ?g/mL were further tested for lipid peroxidation inhibition by TBA assay. They displayed activity with IC50 values from 30.6 to 158.9 ?g/mL. Until now, this is the first report on antioxidant activity of the female flower of Borassus flabellifer, and the stem of Combretum latifolium, Embelia ribes, Spatholobus parviflorus, and Tetrastigma erubescens. Fractionations of the EtOAc extract prepared from S. parviflorus led to the isolation of protocatechuic acid (1), ferulic acid (2), epicatechin (3), and gallic acid (4). These compounds showed significant DPPH inhibitory activity with IC50 values from 6.5 to 23.6 ?M.
