Amidoxime modification of polyacrylonitrile/Pterocladia capillacea-derived activated carbon composite for adsorption of toxic chromium from aquatic environment

        Amany GM Shoaib,El Nemr Ahmed,El Sikaily Amany,Masoud Mamdouh S.,Ramadan Mohamed S. 한국탄소학회 2022 Carbon Letters Vol.32 No.2

By polymerizing acrylonitrile in the presence of ammonium persulfate as an initiator and Pterocladia capillacea-activated carbon (P-AC) as a filler, a composite material polyacrylonitrile/Pterocladia capillacea-activated carbon (PAN/P- AC) was developed. By reacting hydroxylamine with the composite's nitrile groups, the prepared composite was functionalized by amidoximation. FTIR spectrometry, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) analysis were all applied to thoroughly characterize the fabricated adsorbent. For the treatment of Cr(VI) ions from synthetic solutions, the adsorption properties of amidoximated polyacrylonitrile/Pterocladia capillacea-activated carbon (PAO/P-AC) were investigated. The pH effect, uptake kinetics, adsorption isotherms, and thermodynamics studies were used to characterize adsorption properties. As a kinetic model analysis, the data confirmed that the pseudo-second-order rate equation matched well the adsorption process. With coefficients of determination (R2) of 0.9998, the Tempkin isotherm model had the lowest error, suggesting that it is the best fitted model to describe this adsorption mechanism. Thermodynamic parameters demonstrated that Cr(VI) adsorption was endothermic.

Investigation of hydrodynamic and mass transfer of mercaptan extraction in pulsed and non-pulsed packed columns

Pouria Amani,Mohammad Amani,Reza Hasanvandian 한국화학공학회 2017 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.34 No.5

We investigated the hydrodynamic behavior and mass transfer characteristics of a pilot-scale conventional packed bed extraction column of mercaptan removal from liquid propane. The extraction column was filled with pall rings structured packing where mercaptan was extracted from the continuous phase to the dispersed phase, accompanied by a chemical reaction in propane-mercaptan-caustic system. The pulsing was introduced into the column to enhance the mass transfer rate. Hydrodynamic parameters such as hold up, flooding velocity and mean drop size were studied together with the effect of chemical reaction on increasing mass transfer performance. Finally, the mass transfer and axial mixing coefficients were obtained from the optimization of data by ADM. It was found that at the pulsation intensity from 0.003 to 0.007 m/s, the maximum mass transfer and minimum axial mixing occurred and it can be concluded that pulsation improves the efficiency of mass transfer just at low intensities.

Mechanisms of Structural Borrowing in Chimalaba

Mreta Abel Yamwaka,Amani Hamisi 한국외국어대학교 아프리카연구소 2012 Asian Journal of African Studies Vol.32 No.-

The paper aims to describe mechanisms through which various structural items were borrowed from Kiswahili into Chimalaba. It is an attempt to illustrate how various linguistic constraints seem to determine the borrowing of structural features in a given language contact situation. The primary data for this paper, are based on the research project by Amani (2010) on the Influence of Kiswahili in Chimalaba. There are, approximately 16 structural items borrowed from Kiswahili into Chimalaba as listed in Amani (2010: 58). The main focus is on whether the cases of structural borrowing identified are the result of direct or indirect borrowing and in displaying either of the two, what linguistic constraints are typically at work. Structural borrowing in Chimalaba reveals that Chimalaba has put a stiff resistance to direct structural borrowing, as there are only three items out of 16 structural items that have been directly borrowed from Kiswahili. This has also been possible only in the relevant sub-parts that seem to be more or less similar between Kiswahili and Chimalaba. Most of structural features in Chimalaba have been indirectly borrowed through lexical transfer, constraints of language system and blending. This paper therefore presents indirect and direct structural borrowing and the mechanisms of borrowing used in each category.

      • Analysis of Relationships between Altitude and Distance from Volcano with Stomach Cancer Incidence Using a Geographic Information System

Amani, F,Ahari, S Sadeghieh,Barzegari, S,Hassanlouei, B,Sadrkabir, M,Farzaneh, Esmaeil Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.16

Gastric cancer (GC) is the fifth most common cancer in the world, with a wide variation in incidence rates across different geographical areas. In Iran GC is the most common cancer in males and it is reported to be the third most prevalent after breast and colorectal in females. A geographical information system (GIS) allows investigation of the geographical distribution of diseases. The purpose of the present study was to explore the relationship between gastric cancer and effective climatic factors using GIS. The dispersion distribution and the relationship between environmental factors effective on cancer were measured using Arc GIS. Of all cases, 672 (73.8%) were in males with a sex ratio of 3 to1. The highest incidence by cities was seen in Namin with 137.5 per 100,000. The results of this study showed that the distribution of GC around the Sabalan volcanic mountain was significantly higher than other places in the same province. These results can be considered as a window to future comprehensive research on gastric cancer.

      • A non-ordinary state-based peridynamics formulation for thermoplastic fracture

        Amani, J.,Oterkus, E.,Areias, P.,Zi, G.,Nguyen-Thoi, T.,Rabczuk, T. Pergamon Press ; Elsevier Science Ltd 2016 International journal of impact engineering Vol.87 No.-

In this study, a three-dimensional (3D) non-ordinary state-based peridynamics (NOSB-PD) formulation for thermomechanical brittle and ductile fracture is presented. The Johnson-Cook (JC) constitutive and damage model is used to taken into account plastic hardening, thermal softening and fracture. The formulation is validated by considering two benchmark examples: 1) The Taylor-bar impact and 2) the Kalthoff-Winkler tests. The results show good agreements between the numerical simulations and the experimental results.

Inhibition of human Kv3.1 current expressed in Xenopus oocytes by the toxic venom fraction of Androctonus australis hector

        Amani Cheikh,Rym Benkhalifa,Zied Landoulsi,Imen Chatti,Mohamed El Ayeb 대한약학회 2014 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.37 No.11

AahG50, the toxic fraction of Androctonus australishector venom, was studied on human Kv3.1 channelsactivation, stably expressed in Xenopus oocytes using the twoelectrodevoltage clamp technique. AahG50 reduced Kv3.1currents in a reversible concentration-dependent manner, withan IC50 value and a Hill coefficient of 40.4 ± 0.2 lg/ml and1.3 ± 0.05, respectively. AahG50 inhibited IKv3.1 withoutmodifying the current activation kinetics. The AahG50-induced inhibition of Kv3.1 channels was voltage-dependent,with a gradual increase at lower concentrations and over thevoltage range of channels opening. However, at higher concentrations, the inhibition exhibited voltage dependence onlyin the first range of channels opening from -20 to ?10 mV,but demonstrates a low degree of voltage-dependence whenchannels are fully activated. In the literature, toxins havepreviously been isolated from AahG50, KAaH1 and KAaH2and were reported not to have any effect on IKv3.1. Thepresent article’s findings suggest that AahG50 may contain apeptidic component active on Kv3.1 channels, which inhibitsIKv3.1 in a selective manner.

The Feminist Movement in Post Ottoman Egypt: Revisiting the Contributions of non-Muslim Women Pioneers

Amany Soliman 부산외국어대학교 지중해지역원 2021 The Mediterranean Review Vol.14 No.1

The rise of Egyptian nationalism gave a momentum to the women’s struggle in alignment to the fight for independence. Hence, the history of Egyptian women’s awakening can be read parallel to the history of modern Egyptian nationalism. In this article, there is a spotlight on the efforts of non-Muslim women, either Egyptian or foreigner, who were pioneers in leading women’s advancement in Egypt. However, these women were less celebrated in the writings of Egyptian history either in Egypt or in the West, in comparison to Muslim pioneers. Few of the non-Muslim pioneers are scarcely mentioned in many secondary sources of the Egyptian feminism history without referring to their different identity and their belonging to a minority. Sometimes they are mentioned in the history of education or advancement of a certain industry without referring to their leading roles in advancing the lives of Egyptian women in general. In this article, the legacy of non-Muslim women and their contribution to the women movement in Post Ottoman Egypt will be revisited.

A Hybrid Neutrosophic GIS-MCDM Method Using a Weighted Combination Approach for Selecting Wind Energy Power Plant Locations: A Case Study of Sinai Peninsula, Egypt

Amany Mohamed Elhosiny,Haitham El-Ghareeb,Bahaa T. Shabana,Ahmed AbouElfetouh 한국지능시스템학회 2021 INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL of FUZZY LOGIC and INTELLIGE Vol.21 No.1

The production and use of wind energy has eased the problems of energy scarcity and environmental pollution. However, the selection of locations for wind power plants is challenging because the associated decision-making process requires political, socio-economic, and environmental considerations. The selection of suboptimal sites has created several negative impacts. This study aims to resolve this issue by implementing the following factors: integrating a qualitative and quantitative multi-criteria decision-making framework for selecting locations for wind power plants; applying the new framework in Sinai Peninsula in Egypt, and investigating the neutrosophic analytic network process for weight assignment through expert-based and entropy-based criteria; choosing four potential alternative wind power plant sites, and using PROMETHEE-TOPSIS to help decision makers find the best possible alternative; and establishing the supremacy of one option over the other. The results indicate that by applying the proposed approach, an appropriate wind power plant location can be successfully selected among various alternatives.
