Catalytic oxidative desulfurization of the model oil or synthetic sulfur oil (SSO) and the different real/ industrial industrial oil fractions was investigated using air assisted hydrogen peroxide and formic acid oxidation in the presence of Fe-ZSM-5 as catalyst. The reactivity of the different model sulfur compounds increased in the order of thiophene< dibenzothiophene (BT)<4-methyl dibenzothiophene (4-MDBT). The desulfurization yield in case of the model oil was increased in the presence of Fe-ZSM-5 and the sulfur content of the model oil was reduced from 1275 to less than 50 ppm in 60 min at 60 oC temperature. The catalyst also performed efficiently in ODS of real industrial oil fractions, i.e., untreated naphtha (UN), light gas oil (LGO), cooker derived combined heavy gas oil (HGO) and Athabasca oil sands derived bitumen (At. Bit.), and sulfur removal of 80, 78, 62 and 60% was attained, respectively. Kinetic investigation revealed that the ODS catalyzed by Fe-ZSM-5 followed the first-order kinetics.

Soil salinity is one of the severe threats of climate change that inflicts heavy losses to vegetable production. Potassium (K) has been considered essential approach against abiotic stresses in food crops, however, understanding of K regulated mechanisms for inducing tolerance to NaCl stress in cabbage (Brassica oleracea L.) plants is, still elusive. Here, we report the supplemental K effects on antioxidant defense system and physiological processes that may influence the cabbage production under saline conditions. Initially, cabbage varieties (‘Stone Head’, ‘Golden Acre’, ‘9j-940’, ‘Beauty Ball’, ‘Green Ball’, ‘Green Rise’, ‘Marco F-1’) were tested under NaCl stress (50, 100, 150, and 200 mM) for their higher growth, vigor index and mineral contents. The identified cabbage var. salt-tolerant, cv. Beauty Ball (BB) and salt-sensitive cv. Green Ball (GB) were further exposed to foliar K (5 and 10 mM solutions of KNO3) under the same NaCl regimes. NaCl stress markedly inhibited photosynthetic efficiency, water status and chlorophyll pigments, thereby, resulted in reduced dry biomass of both varieties. Nevertheless, exogenous K spray at 10 mM caused positive gain in leaf water relations, chlorophyll contents in both cabbage varieties. The ameliorative impacts of K were more pronounced in salt-tolerant cv. BB as compared to salt-sensitive cv. GB in terms of higher accumulation of total soluble proteins, total free amino acids, proline contents, upregulated antioxidant activities and enhanced gas exchange characteristics. Hence, improvement in growth and K+/Na+ ratio of cabbage plants by foliar K application (10 mM) were related to up-regulation of physiological and biochemical mechanisms under saline conditions.
Bargaining based Design Mechanism for delay sensitive tasks of mobile crowdsensing in IoT
Ahmad Waqas,Ullah Ata,Sheharyar,Jhanjhi N.Z.,Ghoniem Rania M.,Brohi Sarfraz Nawaz 한국통신학회 2024 ICT Express Vol.10 No.1
Internet of Things (IoT) is getting growing interest to offer great opportunities in combination with Mobile Crowd Sensing for real-time applications. Existing approaches motivate mobile workers (MWs) for approaching the distant locations to receive attractive incentives for traveling. The main question addressed is that a number of tasks remain incomplete out of total al-located tasks. Moreover, the profitability and feasible budget constraints of the platform is also not considered. This paper presents Bargaining based Design Mechanism (BDM) to involve the nearest located MWs to improve the completion of tasks. The main method involves a bargaining based game model that increases the task completion ratio while considering the feasible budget constraint, platform profitability and social welfare. The proposed approach comprises of two algorithms: one for the selection of optimal MWs with low cost and less delay. Second is to organize bargaining for rewarding the platform on social welfare. Our work is validated by developing a testbed on Windows Azure cloud. Results prove that proposed BDM out-performs the counterparts in terms of decay coefficient, task completion ratio, participant’s winning ratio, fraction of task incompletion and social welfare.

The escalating energy demand across the globe has intensifed the electricity production. Owing to the unavailability of the reliable techniques for electricity storage for a long duration, it is consumed immediately after its production. Therefore, electricity markets can’t be handled like the conventional stock markets. Power companies are facing immense price and delivery risks owing to the increasing competition in the electricity markets. As a result, risk management is the fundamental concern to be addressed in order to achieve the optimum proft targets. Consequently, the power generation organizations need to allocate their generation in bilateral contracts and spot market. For this purpose, an optimal theory of portfolio selection is proposed in this study for electricity generation by forming a reliable prototype and applying the proposed scheme to obtain the suitable outcomes. The Paris Accord on environmental safety from carbon dioxide and NOx gases is especially considered during the modeling of the proposed technique. The credibility of the proposed scheme is validated by using the real-time market data from the PJM market. Various risk-return tradeofs are implemented, and their corresponding solutions are acquired for portfolio optimization as corroborated by the results. The suggested technique is found reliable and adequate for the carbon tax paying suppliers around the world for allocating their respective generation based on the demand of the consumers.

The objective of this study was to analyze the three different management modalities for isolated superior mesenteric artery (SMA) dissection. We did a comprehensive literature search and found 703 articles on the initial search, out of which 111 articles consisting of 145 patients were selected for analysis. The mean age was 55.7 years (standard deviation,9.7;33–85) and 80.6% were male. These patients were managed conservatively (41.3%), endovascularly (28.1%) or surgically (30%). The median follow-up was 10 months (interquartile range [IQR], 4–18 months), 12 months (IQR, 6–19 months) and 14 months (IQR, 6–20 months) respectively. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) was the most commonly used diagnostic tool in the conservative group (43.8%), while conventional CT scan was the most widely used in endovascular (58.1%) and surgical group (50%). 17% percent of the conservative group had SMA angiography for diagnosis, while this was less than 3% in the other groups. Of these patients, 96.7%, 97.4%, and 100.0% recovered successfully in the conservative, endovascular, and surgical groups respectively. There was no significant difference in the mortality between the three groups (Pearson χ2=0.482). This suggests a conservative and endovascular approach could be used in most patients, which can reduce costs and surgery-related morbidity and mortality. Surgical management should be reserved for cases having infarction or widespread bowel ischemia and in cases where other treatment modalities fail.

Image Retrieval Algorithm based on Incremental CBIR using Color Histogram
Waqas Rasheed,Nishat Ahmad,Ilhoe Jeung(정일회),SungKwan Kang(강성관),Jongan Park(박종안) 한국정보기술학회 2007 Proceedings of KIIT Conference Vol.2007 No.-
An incremental Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) method is proposed in this paper based on color histogram. Standard histograms, because of their efficiency and insensitivity to small changes, are widely used for content based image retrieval. But the main disadvantage of histograms is that many images of different appearances can have similar histograms because histograms provide coarse characterization of an image. We define an algorithm that utilizes the concept of Histogram Refinement [l] and we call it Color Refinement Method.
