Role of elevated carbon dioxide in improving growth and productivity of wheat under salt stress
Abdul Wahid,Samia Aslam Butt 단국대학교 국제농업협력연구소 2012 단국대학교 국제농업협력연구소 학술대회 Vol.2012 No.1
The aim of this study was to determine the responses of some selected wheat varieties to high ambient C02 under salinity stress at seedling stage. The results revealed that applied salinity affected the growth of all the varieties while high (700 ppm) concentration of C02 substantially reduced the adverse effect of salinity and enhanced growth, by improving osmolytes (free proline, glycinebetaine and soluble sugars) accumulation. Furthermore, elevated C02 increased the contents of K+ and enhanced K+ INa+ ratio, whilst decreasing the contents Na+ and cr as compared to respective control, although varietal differences were evident. Overall, there was a 6016% increase in growth attributes and 15020% increase in the K+ contents and K+/Na+ ratio, while reducing the toxic ionic contents. For all the parameters, relatively salt sensitive varieties benefitted greatly from C02 enrichment than the tolerant varieties. In conclusion, increased ambient C02 concentration acted as foliar fertilizer for salinity grown wheat varieties and substantially enhanced the growth, osmotic and ionic characteristics.
Decentralized Backstepping Control of a Quadrotor with Tilted-rotor under Wind Gusts
Abdul-Wahid A. Saif,Abdulrahman Aliyu,Mujahed Al Dhaifallah,Moustafa Elshafei 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2018 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.16 No.5
Conventional unmanned aerial vehicles, quadrotor have a plethora of applications for civilian and military purposes. Quadrotors as the name implies usually have four input variables (fixed rotors) which are used to drive six outputs (i.e., 3 translational and 3 rotational motions), and this leads to coupling between motions. Tilt- rotor quadrotors are more versatile because they have more input variables to independently control its orientation and position without coupling. In this paper, a decentralized backstepping control approach is used to generate a new set of inputs capable of independently and simultaneously achieve decoupling of motions while rejecting wind disturbances. The tiltrotor quadrotor dynamic is first decentralized to achieve six subsystems, then controller inputs for each subsystem are generated via Lyapunov based backstepping method whereby the controller parameters are optimized by Differential Evolution (DE) technique. This system exhibits robustness capability because it is able to reject external disturbances.
LEVEL OF TESTOSTERONE IN BLOOD PLASMA OF SELECTED RAMS
Abdul Wahid, S.,Yunus, J.M. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 1995 Animal Bioscience Vol.8 No.6
Following importation of temperate Australian breeds of sheep into Malaysia, it was demonstrated that there was variability in libido and semen productivity. Consequently, a study was conducted to determine the concentration of testosterone and relate it with libido and semen production. A total of 10 rams each of Dorset Horn, Cross of Merino with Border Leicester, Siamese Long Tail, Suffolk and local Malin were used to study the composition of testosterone in the blood plasma of these breeds. The study showed that there was significant difference between the testosterone level of different breeds in Spring and Summer but not in Autumn and Winter. The difference was pronounced in August and January. A significant difference (p > 0.05) was recorded in the testosterone levels of the different breeds during the day where Malin had better libido compared to the other breeds. There was no significant difference between the testosterone levels of the different breeds at night. The testosterone level of Suffolk, however, was elevated throughout the night (2.00 ng/ml and over) which resulted in better libido at night compared to the other breeds.

Semantic segmentation has remained as a challenging problem in the field of computer vision. Given the immense power of Convolution Neural Network (CNN) models, many complex problems have been solved in computer vision. Semantic segmentation is the challenge of classifying several pixels of an image into one category. With the help of convolution neural networks, we have witnessed prolific results over the time. We propose a convolutional neural network model which uses Fully CNN with deconvolutional pixel layers. The goal is to create a hierarchy of features while the fully convolutional model does the primary learning and later deconvolutional model visually segments the target image. The proposed approach creates a direct link among the several adjacent pixels in the resulting feature maps. It also preserves the spatial features such as corners and edges in images and hence adding more accuracy to the resulting outputs. We test our algorithm on Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and Toyota Technologies Institute (KITTI) street view data set. Our method achieves an mIoU accuracy of 92.04 %.
The Nexus Between Inventory Management and Firm Performance: A Saudi Arabian Perspective
HASHED, Abdul Wahid Ahmed,SHAIK, Abdul Rahman Korea Distribution Science Association 2022 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.9 No.6
The current study examines the relationship between inventory management efficiency and financial performance in Saudi Arabian companies. The study collected data from the companies listed on Tadawul (a Saudi Arabian stock exchange) during the period starting from 2016 and ending in 2020. The study uses pooled regression model by incorporating Return on Assets (ROA) and Inventory Turnover Ratio (ITR) as a performance measurement variable and inventory conversion period as an inventory management variable to report the results. The results show a positive and significant association between inventory management and firms' financial growth measured in terms of Return on Assets (ROA). Further, the study reports a positive and significant association between the inventory conversion period and inventory turnover (ITR). This shows that managing inventory efficiently shall positively impact the firm's performance. The other variables, such as debt ratio and gross profit, are positively related to ROA and negatively correlated with ITR. The firm growth is positively associated with both the dependent variables. The results suggest that the management of inventory in Saudi Arabian firms is efficient. Further, the firm size is positively associated with ROA and ITR. This shows a nexus between inventory management efficiency and firms' financial growth in Saudi Arabian companies.

This study examined the effect of the CaMgSn ternary phase on the aging response of the Mg-Sn-Zn alloy. The results revealed that the CaMgSn ternary phase formed in rod-like or needle-like shapes in Mg-3Zn-0.3Ca-xSn (x=1.5, 3, and 5 wt%) alloys and its size decreased as the Sn content increased from 1.5 wt% to 5 wt%. The Mg-3Zn-0.3Ca-5Sn alloy with a relatively fine CaMgSn phase was subjected to solution heat treatment and an aging process. Both the Mg-5Sn-3Zn-0.3Ca and Mg-5Sn-3Zn (base alloy) alloys had similar peak hardness values throughout all aging temperatures but the time-to-peak hardness in the Mg-5Sn-3Zn-0.3Ca alloy was 24-36 hours-earlier than that in the base alloy. Precipitates in the Mg-5Sn-3Zn-0.3Ca alloy were more refined than those in the Mg-5Sn-3Zn alloy and were mostly formed on basal planes. The Mg2Sn phase formed in either plate-like or rod-like shapes in the Mg-5Sn-3Zn alloy, whereas block-shaped Mg2Sn particles also formed in the Mg-5Sn-3Zn-0.3Ca alloy.
