        The stack-effect in high-rise buildings in winter causes many problems such as difficulties in opening or closing doors, infiltration, energy loss, noise and fire protection. Stack effect is influenced by temperature difference between the interior and exterior of building and the height of building. As an attenuation method for stack effect, the architectural methods are generally used. However, as though architectural methods were fully adopted, the problems are reported as ever in tall building. In this study, a new method to reduce stack effect will be suggested. As an active control method against the stack effect, E/V shaft natural cooling method is suggested. In this paper, the concept of E/V shaft natural cooling system and its reduction performance of stack effect by simulation and field measurement will be reported.

        Octacosanol과 박과식물 추출물을 주성분으로 하는 혼합물의 지구력 증진 효과

        Octacosanol is known to enhance endurance activities, control cholesterol in body and improve the function of cardiopulmonary. Citrulline, which is main compound of watermelon, is known to improve angiectasia through stimulating production of nitric oxide. To improve endurance activity, swimming test on rats was carried out using four samples such as 1% octacosanol, citrulline, the extracts of barks of watermelon and products, mixture of 1% octacosanol and the extracts of barks of watermelon (6:4). Biochemical assays on the liver and serum of tested rats were also performed using commercial analysis kits. In result, it was shown that swimming time of Ⅲ group increased by 26% and that of Ⅴgroup was increased by 22% at the swimming test. As a result of biological assays on the liver and serum of tested rats, it was possible to confirm stability of toxicity. When compared with creatine kinase of control group(549.11±39.15 U/ℓ), citrulline (644.11±50.67 U/ℓ) and products group (646.00±46.99 U/ℓ) were largely increased. When compared with inorganic phosphate of control group (12.01±0.75 ㎎/㎗), citrulline (13.03±0.94 ㎎/㎗) and products group (12.90±0.55 ㎎/㎗) showed similar results. Also, when compared with lactic acid and glucose of control group (152.91±13.45, 103.00±8.69 ㎎/㎗), citrulline (125.53±15.54, 83.75±7.29 ㎎/㎗) and products group (135.26±11.50, 78.57±9.79 ㎎/㎗) were largely decreased. As these test results, it was determined that 1% octacosanol and extracts of barks of watermelon had some effect of improving endurance activity. Futhermore, it was thought that it could be used as source of functional food.

        Korean Graduate Students’ Negotiations of Identities within U.S. Academe

          This study investigated how adult second language learners negotiate their social, relational identities in real-life communicative interactions within professional, institutional social settings. Based on the sociocultural approach to identity formation (e.g., Lantolf & Pavlenko, 2001; Penuel & Wertsch, 1995), this study examined five Korean graduate students’ experiences with and perspectives regarding their real-life communicative interactions within U.S. academe. The study findings suggested the importance of English learners’ enactment of positive, relational identities in enhancing their agency in order to actively participate in English communicative practices and continue to improve their English proficiency. Pedagogical implications for enhancing Korean students’ agency in learning English were also discussed.

        Writing to Cultural Others: Beyond Contrastive Rhetoric to the Dialogic Model of L2 Writing

          Contrastive rhetoric (CR) has been a representative research framework for L2 writing. Yet its structuralistic assumptions of writing have been subjected to serious critiques. Despite the scholarly efforts for an updated understanding of L2 writing, few attempts were made to discuss the primacy of audience in L2 writing research and pedagogy. Through a critical review of CR literature and audience studies in composition, this paper first presented an evaluative discussion of the conceptual and methodological premises of CR. Based on the discussion, it suggested the utility of Bakhtinian notion of audience in revising the structuralistic assumptions of writing and understanding L2 writing as a cross-cultural site of writer-reader interaction. Finally, this paper proposed a dialogic model of L2 writing with audience as a guiding principle. Research and pedagogical implications drawn from the proposed model were briefly discussed.

        국립고궁박물관 소장 반소(半燒)된 공신초상화의 주인공 검토

        An anonymous portrait in a subject’s attire has survived on a large, half-burnt hanging scroll. The large scale of the portrait and its provenance from the Royal Portrait Hall (Seonwon-Jeon, 璿源殿) of Changdeok Palace imply that the depicted person should be an important figure next to the king or one with some significant background. Such particularity and anonymity inspired the author to research about who he is. Through a comparative studies of material, similar features and formats were found in the to 17th Century portraiture of Joseon merit subjects. It was also found in records that among all Joseon kings including those who were posthumously enthroned, honorary King Wonjong (1580~1619) had been entitled a merit subject in early 17th century before his enthronement. King Wonjong, who was Prince Jeongwon (定遠君) then, had been invested twice as merit subject, first in 1604 during the reign of King Seonjo and second in 1613 during the reign of Prince Gwanghae (光海君), and it was customary in Joseon government to hand down the images of merit subjects for generations by producing portraits upon their investment. The stylistic analysis of the large anonymous portrait infers its production period to be around the merit subject investiture of 1613, because the portrait’s short official’s hat, hidden white cuffs and carpet patterns showed similarities to the surviving portraits merit subjects during the Prince Gwanghae’s reign. Records such as the Diaries of the Royal Secretariat (Seungjeong-Won Ilgi, 承政院日記) also confirms that the royal portrait of King Wonjong in the royal portrait halls depicted an image of Prince Jeongwon as a merit subject, and that his official’s hat was designed short. There are two reproduction cases of King Wonjong’s portrait specifically mentioned in records. The Royal Protocols on 1872 renewal process of King Wonjong’s portrait records dimensions of the portrait that corresponds with the half-burnt hanging-scroll, thus proving them to be the same portrait. In another record, which is the transcript of documents regarding duplication of the portrait in 1935, a court painter Kim Eun-Ho (金殷鎬) suggested to revise of awkward depictions such as the drape of the robe and side of the chair. Since the half-burnt portrait bears the revised features suggested by Kim, it must be the very portrait of King Wonjong by Kim Eun-Ho in 1935. The portrait of Prince Jeongwon was enshrined to Yeonghui-Jeon following his posthumous enthronement, and later moved to Seonwon-Jeon of Changdeok Palace in late Korean Imperial period. It was kept there through the Japanese colonial period, and then, just like all other royal portraits from Seonwon-Jeon, it was evacuated to Busan during the Korean War where it caught fire. Although this portrait survived by luck, its upper-right corner with a cartouche bearing inscriptions was lost so that the person depicted has remained unidentified. Although this royal portrait depicts an image of a prince in merit subject’s attire, its re-identification makes a valuable addition to surviving examples of royal portraiture, of which only a minute portion survives. It also made the portrait of Prince Yeoning (later King Yeongjo) no longer the solely surviving example of a Joseon Prince’s portrait. There is no doubt this portrait has become a key reference to understand the early 17th Century attire of a Joseon prince. 신하의 복장을 한 거대한 초상화 족자 한 점이 반쯤 소실되고 주인공을 모르는 채로 전해져왔다. 분명히 창덕궁 선원전에서 소장하고 있던 초상화이고 그 규모로 봤을 때 王에 버금가는 중요한 인물이거나 어떤 사연이 있는 영정이라 생각했다. 그래서 과연 주인공이 누구인가에 대한 호기심이 들었으며, 이를 시작으로 여러 자료를 찾아본 결과 17세기에 제작된 공신상들과 유사함을 볼 수 있었고 추존된 임금을 포함한 조선의 왕 중에서 17세기에는 원종(元宗)이 잠저(潛邸) 시절에 공신에 책봉되었던 사실을 확인할 수 있었다. 공신으로 책봉되면 나라에서는 초상화를 그려주어서 그 모습이 후세에 전해지도록 하였는데 원종은 정원군(定遠君) 시절에 선조 때의 호성공신(扈聖功臣)과 광해군 때의 익사공신(翼社功臣)에 책봉되었기 때문에 반소된 영정은 둘 중의 하나이다. 그 중 양식적으로 보았을 때 사모(紗帽)의 모정(帽頂)이 낮고 하얀 소매가 드러나지 않는 점과 채전(彩氈)의 문양 등이 광해군 때의 공신상들과 유사하여 익사공신상으로 보았다. 과연 『승정원일기』 등의 사료를 통해서 진전(眞殿)에 모셔진 원종의 어진은 원래 정원군 시절의 공신상이었음을 알 수 있었고 사모의 높이가 상당히 낮았음이 증명되었다. 元宗 御眞의 제작과 관련된 구체적 기록은 1872년의 이모(移摹)와 1935년의 모사(模寫)와 관련된 기록이 남아 있는데 1872년 이모 과정을 기록한 의궤에서 드러난 치수와 반소된 영정의 크기가 거의 일치하여 원종의 어진임을 증명하였으며 1935년의 모사 과정을 기록한 등록을 통해서 당시 화사였던 김은호(金殷鎬)가 의복이 드리워진 형태와 의자의 측면이 불합리하여 수정을 건의한 내용이 반소된 영정에서 드러나고 있는 점으로 보아 이는 1935년에 김은호가 그린 원종의 어진이었음을 알 수 있었다. 정원군의 공신상은 사후에 왕으로 추존된 이후 영희전을 거쳐서 대한제국 말기에 창덕궁 선원전으로 이안되었는데 일제강점기를 거쳐서 한국전쟁 때 여러 어진과 마찬가지로 부산으로 피난을 갔다가 화재를 당하였고 요행히 그 일부가 남았던 것이다. 그러나 우측 상단에 있었을 표제가 불타버려서 주인공을 모르는 상태로 남아있었다. 새롭게 밝혀진 원종의 어진은 비록 범본이 잠저 시절의 공신상이지만 극소수에 불과한 어진 자료가 늘어난 것이어서 그 가치가 매우 크며 영조의 잠저 시절 초상화인 연잉군 영정 외에는 왕자의 초상화가 전혀 없는 실정에서 17세기 초반 왕자의 차림새를 알려주는 중요한 자료라고 생각한다.

        코드섬유-고무 복합재료의 물성치에 대한 계면의 영향

        고무의 비선형성과 대변형으로 인해 코드-고무 복합재료의 정확한 거동을 파악하기는 어렵다. 코드와 고무 사이에 제 3 의 상을 가정해서 세 가지 상에 대한 모델링을 하기도 하지만 코드-고무 복합재료 계면의 두께와 물성을 결정하기 힘들다. 본 연구에서는 2 차원 일반화된 평면변형률요소와 평면변형률요소를 사용한 유한요소법을 적용하여 여러 가지 계면 두께를 갖는 코드-고무 복합재료의 유효탄성계수와 무차원 탄성계수를 구하였다. 고무물성은 네오-후크 모델을 적용하였고 여러 가지 하중상태와 몇 가지 계면 물성치에 대한 고찰을 하였다. 그 결과 계면 물성치와 계면 두께는 코드-고무 복합재료의 비선형성과 유효탄성계수에 영향을 미침을 알 수 있었다. The nonlinearity and high deformability of rubber make accurate analysis of the behavior of cord-rubber composites a challenging task. Some researchers have adopted the third phase between cord and rubber and have carried out three-phase modeling. However, it is difficult to determine the thickness and properties of the interface in cord-rubber composites. In this study, a two-dimensional finite-element method (2D FEM) is used to investigate the effective and normalized moduli of cordrubber composites having interfaces of various thicknesses; this model takes into account the 2D generalized plane strain and a plane strain element. The neo-Hookean model is used for the properties of rubber, several interface properties are assumed and three loading directions are selected. It is found that the properties and thickness of the interface can affect the nonlinearity and the effective modulus of cord-rubber composites.

        In this study, the effect of HVAC system on stack-effect in high-rise building is analyzed. As an attenuation method for stack-effect, the architectural measures are generally used. However, the architectural measures have limits to settle down the problems coming from stack-effect. Therefore, the architectural measures should be considered side by side with HVAC system operation. In this paper, the influence of HVAC system operation on stack-effect will be analyzed with field measurement and network simulation.

      • 대용량 공조 적용에 대한 빙축열 시스템과 흡수식 냉온수기의 경제성 분석

        Cost related to building equipment accounts for about 85% of the life cycle cost of buildings. Therefore proper selection of air-conditioning system is important for reducing the overall cost of buildings. In this study, large capacity ice thermal storage and absorption chiller-heater for air-conditioning a building with a floor area of 18,300 ㎡ are compared economically. For easy input and analysis, a MS Excel VBA program has been developed. To consider all the factors of initial and operation costs effectively, an annual equal payment method is proposed. Under the assumptions made in this study, overall cost of an absorption chiller-heater is less than that of an ice thermal storage, but this is not absolute and different outcome may result if different assumptions are made. This study is useful for those who are interested in choosing an economical air-conditioning system for large-size buildings with simple calculations.
