In order to inverstigate the role of neutral ribonuclease (RNase) specific to hepatocellular cancer in carcimogenesis and suppression of cancer. nonsecretory cellular type of neutral RNase exhibiting higher activity toward RNA was isolated by a DEAE-cellulose column chromatography from both peripheral and central area of hepatocarcinoma tissue. Neutral RNase activity measured with poly C as substrate was significantly decreased in ehpatocellular carcinoma tissue obtained by needle biopsy. Neutral RNase activity was also decreased in the central area of hepatocellar tissue removed by surgery, but increased in the peripheral area of hepatocellular tissue. RNases in the peripheral and central area of hepatocellular carcinoma tissues and contral liver tissue were isolated into 7 peaks each by a DEAE-cellulose column chromatography. The peak I neutral RNase highly active against RNA was boserved to be a nonsecretory type of the enzyme unique to the liver and the peaks Ⅳ,Ⅴ, and Ⅵ active against poly C secretory type of the RNase. HPLC analysis of DEAE peak proteins isolated from control and hepatocellular carcinoma tissue revealed little difference in DEAE peak Ⅳ,Ⅴ,Ⅵ and Ⅶ proteins between the control and cancer tissues. HPLC protein analysis pattern in the peak I protein from the cancer tissues. HPLC protein analysis pattern in the peak I protein from the cancer tissue was, however, quite different from that of the control tissue was found to be oligoribonucleotides, indicating that the enzyme might be an endonuclease in nature. These results indicate that 1) the DEAE peak I neutral RNaes isolated from the peripheral area of the hepatocellular carcinoma tissue is nonsecretory type of RNase unique to the liver, 2) the enzyme is much more active against RNA than homopolyribonucleotides as substrate, 3) nature of the proteins complexed with the RNase isozyme is different from that in the control liver tissue and 4) the enzyme appears to be endonuclease in nature, suggesting a possible role of the RNase isozyme in the suppression of the hepatocellular of the hepatocellular carcinoma.

Emphysematous pyelonephritis is an uncommon, but frequently fatal infection of the kidney with spontaneous generation of gas in the upper urinary tract, renal parenchyma and perirenal tissue associated with severe acute pyelonephritis. Emphysematous pyelonephritis can occur in the diabetic patient with or without ureteral obstruction. However, in the non-diabetic patient, it is nearly always associated with ureteral obstruction. Herein we review the diagnosis and management of emphysematous pyelonephritis caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa and report a case of emphysematous pyelonephritis developed in renal tuberculosis.
