We examined the effects of steptozotocin (STZ)-induced type 1 diabetes on cell proliferation and neuroblasts in the subgranular zone of the hippocampal dentate gyrus (SZDG) of male Wistar rats. Change in memory function was also investigated using the passive avoidance test. In the SZDG, Ki67 (a marker for cell proliferation) positive nuclei were significantly decreased at 2 and 3 weeks and slightly decreased at 4 weeks after STZ treatment. Doublecortin (DCX, a marker for neuronal differentiation)-immunoreactive (+) neuroblasts with tertiary dendrites were significantly decreased in the STZ-treated group compared to those in the vehicle-treated group. However, DCX+ neuroblasts without tertiary dendrites were abundant at 4 weeks after STZ treatment. In addition, retention latency time in STZ-treated group was similar to that of vehicle-treated group at 2 and 3 weeks after STZ treatment. However, the retention latency time was significantly decreased at 4 weeks after STZ treatment. These results suggest that STZ significantly reduced cell proliferation and neuroblasts at 2~3 weeks after STZ treatment, but not at 4 weeks after STZ treatment although memory impairment was detected at 4 weeks after STZ treatment. The gradual reduction of DCX+ neuroblasts with tertiary dendrites may be associated with the impairment of hippocampus-related memory function.

In order to understand the influence of the inducer inlet angle on cavitation and suction performance, experiments were carried out for two kinds inducer, which have the same outlet angle distribution, length and number of inducer blades. The results showed that the change of inducer inlet angles influenced not only internal flow conditions but also cavity flow and suction performance. The improvement of suction performance by using inducer were also discussed.

This study is the objective of a development of a measuring device of water level used ultrasonic waves enable to telemeter. The rapidly increasing demands on the practices and techniques of streamflow measurement. Future streamflow determinations will require a greatly expanded network of hydrometric stations and a high degree of efficency in their operation. This can be accomplished by techniques and a more intensive use of the high-speed computing devices which the space has made available. Stage indicators are classified according to the method by which they measure the stage and the manner in which they are read. The ultrasonic level meter of this study is a data logger/controller engine of a measuring device of water level ultrasonic waves. The ultrasonic level meter is the ideal choice for embedded data acquisition or control applications with one or more of multiple channels,low power,small size. This meter programmed with PICBASIC,enabale the user to quickly develop and implement custom solutions to the most challenging data acquisition or control tasks. Ultrasonic sensor is an economical sonar transmit output is 16 cycles ata frequency of 40 KHz.

The purpose of this study was to develop of a model for School based Oral health program in Korea. Study model of school based dental program was established at Mockcheon Grade school, in 1989 and followed the program for 6 years. 324 school children have been participated in the program. Dental students and dental hygienist's students of Dankook University School of Dentistry have been providing al dental services under the supervision of a public health dentist. Primary preventive care such as sealants, fluoride mouthrinse fluoride topical applications, toothbrusing instruction, oral prophylaxis, were provided to all of the participendents by the students under the supervision of public health dentists. Data for DMF rate, DMFT rate and DMFT index were collected annually. The amounts of money and time consumptions for this program were also monitored. The results obtained for this study were as followings ; 1. The combined school based oral health care program utilized in Mockcheon primary school resulted a reduction of 33.5% in caries incidence after 6 years of implemention. 2. The school based oral health care program tested in this program reduced an average of 53% of dental treatment cost for school children ofter 6 years of implemention. 3. It is therefore suggested that the school based oral health care program is an effective means of public health project for school children in Korea.

<P>As an angiogenic factor, thymidine phosphorylase (TP) expression in primary tumours has been thought to be a risk factor for lymph node (LN) and hepatic metastasis in patients with gastric adenocarcinoma. However, the molecular basis for the induction of metastasis by TP is largely unknown. We aim to elucidate the role of TP expression in gastric cancer neovascularisation and LN metastasis.The angiogenic and lymphangiogenic activity (CD31, D2-40, Ki-67, VEGFC, VEGFR3) and expression status of TP were detected in 103 resected human gastric carcinoma samples by immunohistochemistry. The influence of TP expression on neovascularisation and cancer cell invasion was further comparatively investigated in two groups of nude mice intraperitoneally injected with TP overexpressing MKN-45 cells (MKN-45/TP) and control cells (MKN-45/CV). In gastric cancer tissues, we found that high TP expression and various angiogenic and lymphangiogenic activities were significantly associated with poor prognostic outcomes. In addition, TP expression was also found to be associated with neovascularisation activity of gastric cancer tissues. In vivo, the MKN-45/TP group exhibited significantly increased infiltrating tumour nodules and neovascularisation activity compared to the MKN-45/CV group. TP could strongly influence gastric cancer progression via the dual activities of angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis.</P>

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) contribute to the development of various diseases in humans. Cu,Znsuperoxide dismutase (SOD) is one of major means by which cells counteract the deleterious effects of ROS. SOD activity is dependent upon bound copper ions supplied by its partner metallochaperone protein, a copper chaperone for SOD (CCS). In the present study, we investigated the effect of CCS against neuronal damage in the rat brain after middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO). To elucidate the protecitve effect of CCS on ischemic damage, we used PEP-1-CCS fusion protein in a cerebral infarction induced by MCAO. In the PEP-1-CCS-treated group, the infarct volume stained with triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) after MCAO was decreased by 67% compared to that in the vehicle-treated group. This result suggests that CCS is essential to activate SOD, and that transduction of PEP-1-CCS provides a potential strategy for therapeutic delivery in various diseases including stroke related to SOD or ROS.
슬관절경 시술 후 관절내 투여한 Bupivacaine 과 Morphine 의 진통효과 비교

Many authors have studies to relieve the pain after arthniscopic knee surgery. We undertook a randomized, double-blind trial to compare the efficacy of intraarticular morphine and bupivacaine between arthroscopic meniscus surgery group and cruciate ligament reconstruction group. As an results, intraarticular injection of morphine-bupivacaine combination is effective to control pain after minor athroscopic surgery such as menisectomy and meniscal repair and intraarticu]ar injection of morphine-bupivacaine combination is not effective to relieve pain after major arthroscopic surgery including cruciate ligament reconstruction. So, more potent analgesics should be administrated.
