A new thermotropic liquid crystalline copolyester(TLCP) was synthesized by condensation polymerization of 2,6-naphthalene dicarbonyl chloride with the corresponding diol having a tetramethylene and a hexarnethylene group. The blends of the TLCP with PEN were prepared by the coprecipitation from a common solvent. The TLCP and blends (2, 5, 10 and 20wt% TLCP) were characterized in terms of their thermal, mechanical properties and morphology. The TLCP in the melt state showed nematic mesophase identified by thread-like optical texture. The glass transition temperature (T_(g)) and cold crystallization temperature (T_(c)) of PEN in the blends decreased with increasing the content of TLCP and the TLCP acted as anucleating agent for the matrix polymer. Interfacial adhesion between the TLCP and PEN seemed to be poor. The modulus of TLCP/PEN blends was enhanced as the TLCP content increased.

In order to investigate the changes in sugar and organic acids of kimchi during fermentation, Chinese cabbage, radish and kimchi extracts were fermented by lactic acid bacteria and then analyzed acidity, pH, sugar and (acidic ac) of fermented samples. The major organic acids in the samples were lactic, acetic, malic and succinic acid Of these acids, lactic, acetic and citric acid were increased but malic and succinic acid were decreased during kimchi fermentation. The major sugars of the samples were fructose and glucose. The amount of sugars in these samples were decreased more rapidly when fermented at higher temperature than that of low temperature.

A series of wholly aromatic polyesters with side chains were synthesized by solution polycondensation from 2,5-dialkoxyterephthaloyl chlorides with the corresponding diol. The polymers showed the schlieren textures which is indicative of a nematic phase above their melting temperature. The inherent viscosities (η_(inh)) measured at 35℃ in phenol/p-chlorophenol/1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane were 0.56-0.98 dℓ/g. The glass transition temperature (T_(g)) and melting temperature (T_(m)) decreased with increasing the length of the alkoxy side chain. Initial decomposition temperatures in TGA occurred at 338 ~ 363℃ in N₂ gas and thermal stability of polymers decreased with increasing the length of the side chain.

Intestinal cannulation was developed for the study of enteric microflora, nutritional requirements and status. However, already established techniques revealed cause often leakage of the intestinal contents and necrosis of skin. For the prevention of contamination from the ingesta, modified ileal cannulation was performed in a pig. The pig was anesthetized by tiletamine-zolazepam(4.4㎎/㎏, IM) administration 10 minutes after administration of xylazine(0.5㎎/㎏, IM). We inserted resin cannula in the ileum incised and put the inner ring after employing purse-string suture in the ileum. We made the puncture incision in the body wall through which the cannula is drawn. The cannula was placed surgically at the ventral placement of cranial part and at the dorsal placement of caudal part. Cannula was fixed by placement of two outer washer, and sealed with cannula stopper. Laparotomy incision was closed by mattress suture. The pig was given postoperative penicillin(20,000 IU/㎏ IM) to prevent secondary infection for 3 days. There were not observed the entering of rubber cannula into the abdominal cavity, the contamination of ingesta and necrosis of skin, and good result was revealed.

The polycrystalline CuInS_2 thin films are prepared by vacuum heat treatment of layer, which is deposited by vaccum evaporation in order. The electrical and optical properties of the films are investigated at various sulfur deposition mole rate, substrate temperature, heat treatment temperature and time. From data, n type- CuInS_2 exhibits resistivity, transmittance and energy band gap with 142[Ωㆍ㎝], 73[%], and 1.5[eV] respectively at optimum fabrication condition. Finally, the films are fabricated with chalcopyrite structure.

Background Radioimmunotherapy agents have a highly significant role in autologous stem cell transplantation as they improve tolerability and increase the efficacy of the conditioning regimen. Methods We retrospectively analyzed the efficacy and toxicity of yttrium-90 ibritumomab tiuxetan (Zevalin) combined with intravenous busulfan, cyclophosphamide, and etoposide (Z-BuCyE) compared with those of BuCyE alone followed by autologous stem cell transplantation in patients with relapsed or refractory B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). The efficacy, toxicity, and engraftment characteristics were compared between 19 patients who received Z-BuCyE and 19 historical controls who received BuCyE. Results The 2 treatment groups shared similar baseline characteristics. The median time to platelet engraftment (>20×109/L) and neutrophil engraftment (>0.5×109/L) did not significantly differ between the Z-BuCyE group (12 days and 10 days, respectively) and the BuCyE group (12 days and 10 days, respectively). No significant differences were observed between the groups with respect to toxicities and treatment-related mortality. The median follow-up period was 30.4 months, and median event-free survival was generally better in the Z-BuCyE group (12.5 months) vs. the BuCyE group (6.2 months, P=0.236). No significant difference in overall survival between the groups was noted. Conclusion Adding ibritumomab tiuxetan to BuCyE high-dose chemotherapy may benefit patients with relapsed or refractory B-cell NHL with no risk of additional toxicity.
