        Effects of Propranolol on the Left Ventricular Volume of Normal Subjects During CT Coronary Angiography

        Objective: The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of propranolol on the left ventricular (LV) volume during CT coronary angiography. Materials and Methods: The LV volume of 252 normal Chinese subjects (126 subjects with propranolol medication and 126 age- and gender-matched Chinese subjects without medication) was estimated using 64 slices multi-detector CT (MDCT). The heart rate difference was analyzed by the logistic linear regression model with variables that included gender, age, body height, body weight, systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP) and the dosage of propranolol. The following global LV functional parameters were calculated: the real-end diastolic volume (EDV), the real-end systolic volume (ESV) and the real-ejection fraction (EF). Results: The female subjects had a greater decrease of heart rate after taking propranolol. The difference of heart rate was negatively correlated with the dosage of propranolol. The real-EDV, the real-ESV and the real-EF ranged from 48.1 to 109 mL/m2, 6.1 to 57.1 mL/m2 and 41% to 88%, respectively. There was no significant difference in the SBP and DBP between the groups without and with propranolol medication (123 ± 17 and 80 ± 10 mmHg; 120 ± 14 and 80 ± 11 mmHg, respectively). The real-EDV showed no significant difference between these two groups, but the real-ESV and real-EF showed significant differences between these two groups (69.4 ± 9.3 and 70.6 ± 8.9 mL/m2; 23.5 ± 5.7 and 25.6 ± 3.7 mL/m2, 66.5 ± 5.1% and 63.5 ± 4.6%, respectively). Conclusion: The difference of heart rate is significantly influenced by gender and the dosage of propranolol. Propranolol will also increase the ESV, which contributes to a decreased EF, while the SBP, DBP and EDV are not statistically changed.         Role of miR-511 in the Regulation of OATP1B1 Expression by Free Fatty Acid

        MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a family of non-coding RNA that are able to adjust the expression of many proteins, including ATP-binding cassette transporter and organic cation transporter. We sought to evaluate the effect of miR-511 on the regulation of OATP1B1 expression by free fatty acids. When using free fatty acids to stimulate Chang liver cells, we found that the expression of miR-511 increased significantly while the expression of OATP1B1 decreased. We also proved that SLCO1B1 is the target gene of miR-511 with a bioinformatics analysis and using the dual luciferase reporter assay. Furthermore, the expressions of SLCO1B1 and OATP1B1 decreased if transfecting Chang liver cells with miR-511, but did not increase when transfecting the inhibitors of miR-511 into steatosis cells. Our study indicates that miR-511 may play an important role in the regulation of OATP1B1 expression by free fatty acids.

        Heavy metal removal from aqueous solution by granular hydrated Portland cement

        Granular hydrated Portland cement (HPC) was prepared as adsorbent to remove heavy metals in aqueoussolution. Batch experiment results confirmed that heavy metals were removed through a combination of adsorptionand precipitation. Adsorption played a more important role in the initial stage of the removal process or at lower concentrationsof the heavy metals. After adsorption equilibrium was obtained in two days, the removal process continuedfor about three days due to the precipitation. Besides precipitation, the maximum Langmuir adsorption capacity reached132.27, 87.14, 123.43 and 112.05mg/g for Pb, Cu, Zn, and Cd, respectively. When various heavy metals coexisted, theremoval capacity followed the order of Cu>Pb>Cd>Zn. The adsorption on the surfaces of HPC was mainly governedby surface precipitation and Ca2+ exchange, as suggested by XRD, SEM-EDS and released Ca2+ results. Most of theadsorbed heavy metals on the HPC and the precipitation formed in the liquid phase were stable under neutral andalkaline conditions. Overall, HPC particles exhibited a large potential for heavy metal removal. When cement-relatedmaterials containing HPC are employed for heavy metal removal, the dissolution of the precipitate at low pH mightfacilitate the migration of the heavy metals.

        Research on Fault Diagnosis of Wind Power Generator Blade Based on SC-SMOTE and kNN

        Because SCADA monitoring data of wind turbines are large and fast changing, the unbalanced proportion of data in various working conditions makes it difficult to process fault feature data. The existing methods mainly introduce new and nonrepeating instances by interpolating adjacent minority samples. In order to overcomethe shortcomings of these methods which does not consider boundary conditions in balancing data, an improved oversampling balancing algorithm SCSMOTE (safe circle synthetic minority oversampling technology) is proposed to optimize data sets. Then, for the balanced data sets, a fault diagnosis method based on improvedknearest neighbors (kNN) classification for wind turbine blade icing is adopted. Compared with the SMOTE algorithm, the experimental results show that the method is effective in the diagnosis of fan blade icing fault and improves the accuracy of diagnosis.

        Vibration analysis of viscoelastic single-walled carbon nanotubes resting on a viscoelastic foundation

        Vibration responses were investigated for a viscoelastic Single-walled carbon nanotube (visco-SWCNT) resting on a viscoelastic foundation. Based on the nonlocal Euler-Bernoulli beam model, velocity-dependent external damping and Kelvin viscoelastic foundation model, the governing equations were derived. The Transfer function method (TFM) was then used to compute the natural frequencies for general boundary conditions and foundations. In particular, the exact analytical expressions of both complex natural frequencies and critical viscoelastic parameters were obtained for the Kelvin-Voigt visco-SWCNTs with full foundations and certain boundary conditions, and several physically intuitive special cases were discussed. Substantial nonlocal effects, the influence of geometric and physical parameters of the SWCNT and the viscoelastic foundation were observed for the natural frequencies of the supported SWCNTs. The study demonstrates the efficiency and robustness of the developed model for the vibration of the visco-SWCNT-viscoelastic foundation coupling system.

        <P>Three benzo[<I>d</I>,<I>d</I>′]thieno[3,2-<I>b</I>;4,5-<I>b</I>′]dithiophene (<B>BTDT</B>) derivatives, end-functionalized with benzothiophenyl (<B>BT-BTDT</B>; <B>2</B>), benzothieno[3,2-b]thiophenyl (<B>BTT-BTDT</B>; 3), and benzo[<I>d</I>,<I>d</I>′]thieno[3,2-<I>b</I>;4,5-<I>b</I>′]dithiophenyl (<B>BBTDT</B>; <B>4</B>), were prepared for bottom-contact/bottom-gate organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs). An improved one-pot [2 + 1 + 1] synthetic method of <B>BTDT</B> with improved synthetic yield was achieved, which enabled the efficient realization of new <B>BTDT</B>-based semiconductors. All of the <B>BTDT</B> compounds exhibited high performance p-channel characteristics with carrier mobilities as high as 0.34 cm<SUP>2</SUP>/(V s) and a current on/off ratio of 1 × 10<SUP>7</SUP>, as well as enhanced ambient stability.         A Hierarchical Single-Surface Model for an Unsaturated Soil-Structure Interface

        In this paper, according to the shear test of the interface between unsaturated soil and steel plate, the modified apparent roughness is used to describe interface roughness. And considering the influence of matrix suction and interface roughness, the stress variable is constructed to improve the yield and plastic potential functions. Then a modified hierarchical single-surface elastoplastic interface constitutive model (HISS-Unsaturated-Int model) is set up. The finite element calculation of HISS-Unsaturated-Int model is achieved by compiling and calling the user subroutine FRIC of ABAQUS. The interface shear test between unsaturated soil and structure with different water contents and the pull-out shear test between unsaturated soil and soil nail are simulated. The calculation results are consistent with those of experiments, which shows the modified interface constitutive model can effectively predict the shear mechanical properties of soil-structure interface under different soil moisture content, normal stress and interface roughness.

        Distinctive Endophytic Fungal Assemblage in Stems of Wild Rice (Oryza granulata) in China with Special Reference to Two Species of Muscodor (Xylariaceae)

        Ecological niches in the rhizosphere and phyllosphere of grasses capable of sustaining endophytes have been extensively studied. In contrast, little information regarding the identity and functions of endophytic fungi in stems is available. In this study, we investigated the taxonomic affinities, diversity, and host specificities of culturable endophytes in stems of wild rice (Oryza granulata) in China. Seventy-four isolates were recovered. Low recovery rate (11.7%) indicated that there were relatively few sites for fungal infection. Identification using morphology, morphospecies sorting, and molecular techniques resulted in classification into 50 taxa, 36 of which were recovered only once. Nucleotide sequence similarity analysis indicated that 30% of the total taxa recovered were highly divergent from known species and thus may represent lineages new to science. Most of the taxa were classified as members of the classes Sordariomycetes or Dothideomycetes (mainly in Pleosporales). The presence of Arthrinium and Magnaporthaceae species, most often associated with poaceous plants, suggested a degree of host specificity. A polyphasic approach was employed to identify two Muscodor taxa based on (i) ITS and RPB2 phylogenies, (ii) volatile compounds produced, and (iii)an in vitro bioassay of antifungal activity. This to our knowledge is only the second report regarding the isolation of Muscodor spp. in China. Therefore, we hypothesize that wild plants represent a huge reservoir of unknown fungi. The prevalence, novelty, and species-specificity of unique isolates necessitate a reevaluation of their contribution to ecosystem function and fungal biodiversity.

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Uniform, monodisperse yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) rhombic dodecahedron micro-crystals were synthesized using coprecipitation and hydrothermal methods. The Na<SUB>2</SUB>SO<SUB>4</SUB> as a surfactant was helpful in improving the dispersity of the crystallites and forming well-faceted, micro-sized dodecahedral YAG crystallites. The effect of the reaction time and the solvent has also been studied. The crystal growth mechanism called dissolution/crystallization was determined by analyzing the experimental and simulated results. And the specific well-developed crystal facets in the {110} family have been demonstrated by the theoretical calculation. A higher integrated emission intensity can be achieved for the YAG:Ce crystallites by improving the phase purity, morphology with better developed dodecahedrons, and dispersion. Furthermore, a rather high luminous efficacy (LE = 104.14 lm/W) for the white LED fabricated using the YAG:Ce<SUP>3+</SUP> phosphor prepared in this work was realized.
