EGR방법과 함산소연료인 MTBE의 조합에 의한 매연과 NOx의 동시저감에 관한 실험적 연구

Experiments were performed to investigate the effects of the addition of oxygenated blending compounds to diesel fuel in a D.I. diesel engine. Among the alternative fuels, methyl tertiary butyle ether(MTBE), one of oxygenated fuels, attracts attention as an alternative fuel for the diesel engine since the properties of the MTBE are fitted to the diesel engine combustion and the mass production is possible. In thie study, performance and Emissions of the engine were investigated by using the four blends with different voluetric percentage of MTBE(2.5,5,10 and 15%)in the base fuel. The results showed that smoke emission decrease with an increase of the oxygenate content in the fuels, while NOx emission become larger in amount. Besides, exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) method was applied to reduce NOx emission. This research represented that simultoneous reduction of smoke and NOx concentration was able to be achieved with the oxygenated blended fuels and the cooled EGR method.

Dimethoxy methane(CH₃-O-CH₂ -O-CH₃ ), also known as methylal or DMM, is an oxygenated additive that contains 42.5% oxygen by weight and is soluble in diesel fuel. It is a colorless<br/> liquid and a gas-to-liquid chemical that has been evaluated for use as a diesel fuel component.<br/> Experiments were conducted by using the five blends with different volumetric percentage of DMM(2.5, 5, 7.5, 10, and 12.5%) in baseline diesel fuel. The test engine was single cylinder, four stroke, DI diesel engine unmodified. Also, data was collected for steady state operation at 24 engine speed-load conditions. The focus of this study was to investigate the effects of the addition of oxygenated fuel to diesel fuel on the engine-out emissions and the performance. Smoke emissions of all OMM blends were reduced substantially in comparison with conventional diesel fuel. These results indicate that DMM may be an effective blendstock for diesel fuel as an environment-friendly alternative fuel. Resides, this study showed that simultaneous reduction of smoke and NOx emissions could be achieved by oxygenated fuel and EGR method that was applied to decrease NOx emissions increasing with smoke emissions reduction.<br/>
디젤기관에서 디에테르계 함산소연료를 적용시의 배기배출물 특성과 미연탄화수소 분석에 관한 연구

In this study, the potential possibility of oxygenated fuel for diether group oxygenated additives such as Methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) and diethylene glycol dimethyl ether(DGM) were investigated for the sake of exhausted smoke reduction from diesel engine. MTBE has been used as a fuel additive blended into unleaded gasoline to improve octane number, but the study of application for diesel engine was incomplete. DGM has been used as a oxygenated fuel additive, too. Because they includes oxygen content approximately from 18% to 36%, it is a kind of oxygenated fuel that the smoke emission of them is reduced remarkably compared with commercial diesel fuel, that is, it can supply oxygen component sufficiently at high loads and speeds in a diesel engine. In the experiment by gas chromatography, unburned hydrocarbons of oxygenated fuel were reduced than those of commercial diesel fuel.<br/>
디젤기관에서 매연과 NOx의 동시저감을 위한 모노에테르계 함산소연료와 EGR 방법의 조합에 관한 연구

In this paper, the effect of oxygen component in fuel on the exhaust emissions has been investigated for a direct injection diesel engine. It was tested to estimate change of engine performance and exhaust emission characteristics for the commercial diesel fuel and oxygenated blended fuel which has seven kinds of mixed ratio. And, the effects of exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) on the characteristics of NO_x emission have been investigated. Ethylene glycol mono-n-butyl ether(EGBE) contains oxygen component 27% in itself, and it is a kind of effective oxygenated fuel of mono-ether group that the smoke emission of EGBE is reduced remarkably compared with commercial diesel fuel, that is, it can supply oxygen component sufficiently at higher loads and speeds in a diesel engine. It was found that simultaneous reduction of smoke and NO_x was achieved with oxygenated fuel and cooled EGR method.
