Effects of Opuntia humifusa Seed Powder on Serum Lipid Profile in Ovariectomized Rats

Opuntia humifusa contains high levels of antioxidants including vitamin C, flavonoids and polyphenols, which may provide beneficial effects such as hypolipidemic activity and the reduction of atherosclerosis in postmenopausal women. This study was conducted to determine if the intake of O. humifusa seeds powder (OHS) regulates lipid concentrations, glutamate-oxaloacetate transaminase (GOT), and glutamate-pyruvate transaminase (GPT) in the serum of ovariectomized rats. Sprague-Dawley female rats were randomly assigned to either a sham-operated group (Sham) or one of the following four ovariectomy (OVX) subgroups: OVX with vehicle (OVX), OVX with 100, 200, and 500 mg/kg/day OHS (OHS100, OHS200, OHS500). Daily oral administration of OHS was initiated one week after ovariectomy and continued for seven weeks. Upon completion of treatments, organs were weighed and GOT, GPT, total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels were determined enzymatically. No significant differences in feed intake and organ index were observed among the groups. Significant decreases in GPT, TC and LDL-C (p<0.05) were observed in all of the OHS groups (OHS100, 200 and 500), while no significant changes in HDL-C were observed. In addition, the OHS200 and OHS500 treatment groups exhibited a lower level of serum GOT compared to the OVX group. These results indicate that supplementation with O. humifusa seeds could induce favorable changes in serum lipoprotein and lipid profiles, which frequently worsen with inadequate estrogen availability.

본 연구에서는 외환시장에서 自國通貨에 대한 투기적 공격과 국제수지 위기에 대해 최근 연구된 여러 모형들을 살펴보았다. 투기적 공격에 관한 연구는 固定模率制度하에서의 거시경제정책에 몇 가지 시사점을 제공한다. 즉 국제수지 위기는 외생적 충격의 결과라기보다 오희려 통화와 환율정책의 근본적인 불일치에 직면한 경제주체들의 효용극대화 행위의 결과이다. 해외차입 등 자본유출입에 관한 규제와 같은 조치는 고정환율제도를 유지하는 데 한시적인 도움은 되겠지만 정부가 일관된 거시정책 조합을 채택하지 않는다면 고정환율제도는 궁극적으로 붕괴될 것이다. 더군다나 일관된 거시정책조합을 위한 근본적인 정책조정이 지연될수록 잠재생산손실 면에서 볼 때 환율제도의 붕괴비용은 커질 것이다.
Anticancer Properties of Extracts from Opuntia humifusa Against Human Cervical Carcinoma Cells

In this study, we found that the total polyphenol and ascorbic acid levels in the fruit of Opuntia humifusa are higher than those in other parts of the plant. We further hypothesized that antioxidants in O. humifusa might affect the growth or survival of cancer cells. Hexane extracts of seeds and ethyl acetate extracts of fruits and stems significantly suppressed the proliferation of HeLa cervical carcinoma cells, but did not affect the proliferation of normal human BJ fibroblasts. Additionally, the extracts of O. humifusa induced G1 phase arrest in HeLa cells. The O. humifusa extracts reduced the levels of G1 phase-associated cyclin D1, cyclin-dependent kinase 4 (Cdk4), and phosphorylated retinoblastoma proteins. Moreover, p21WAF1/Cip1 and p53 expression significantly increased after treatment. We examined the effects of ethyl acetate extracts of O. humifusa fruit (OHF) on HeLa cells xenograft tumor growth. OHF treatment significantly reduced tumor volume and this decrease was correlated with decreased Cdk4 and cyclin D1 expression. Furthermore, flavonoids, trans Taxifolin, and dihydrokaempferol, were isolated from OHF. Thus, this extract may be a promising candidate for treating human cervical carcinoma.
주행 집전계 시험기의 주행 대차용 선형 유도전동기 설계에 관한 연구

This paper presents design process of linear induction motor in dynamic tester for catenary-current collection. To minimize length of rail for dynamic tester for catenary-current collection, accelerating performance of the linear induction motor is very important. So the design process of linear induction motor considered in this paper is different with general design process of linear induction motor, because dynamic tester has three type driving region, as accelerating region, constant speed region, and braking region. Considering accelerating performance of motor, distance and time from starting point to constant speed region were concerned for load condition of motor. Designed linear induction motor was analyzed by 2-dimensional finite element method. Using mechanical dynamics simulation with analysis result of 2-dimensional finite element method and accelerating performance of designed motor was proved.

This paper is analyzed the effect on characteristics of thrust force of linear induction motor(LIM) by arc type tester. Many kinds of tester have a rotational shape because of a finite length of railroad. Whereas effects by using rotational type tester are generally unknown. For reason of that, this paper is analyzed the effect on characteristics by rotational type tester using 2D finite element method(FEM), and then is compared a thrust force between linear type tester and rotational type tester. Analysis model is decided by numerical modeling for fitting the LIM for propulsion system of light rail, and it is changed to proper arc model. And then we analyzed the arc and the linear model. Consequently, arc type tester is not only useful experiment but also efficient simulation method, and small error is occurred between linear and arc model.

The latest generation of tram is low-floor design, various nations in europe and japan have developed battery driven hybrid trams that combine battery and wiring. Battery driven tram system is achieved by contactless power supply system, thus system is needed high efficiency, high power and low weight traction motor for maximization of energy efficiency. Research from abroad is still in induction motor(IM) application, and it is not meet the efficiency and the power per unit volume in IPMSM. In this paper, we design compare IM and IPMSM to apply battery driven tram, and then compare these motors. To design the motor, we estimate the loading condition at first. Loading condition includes rolling resistance, air-drag resistance, and slope resistance. Based on the loading condition by estimation, we determine the power and compute rated voltage and rated current. In this paper, voltage is limited by battery voltage level. As a result, volume about IM is 1.98 times bigger than IPMSM under same condition. Even though IPMSM is bigger than IM in power density per volume, we consider more factors for actual application because there are demagnetization of permanent magnet in IPMSM and so on by external environment conditions.

This paper presents the thermal modeling and analysis of Line power Start Permanent magnet Motor (LSPM). Thermal analysis of electrical machines is important because temperatures that are consistently too high will reduce the life time of machines and may lead to serious failure. Coefficients of convection are calculated according to the types of operating conditions. And computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technique is performed in order to predict thermal characteristic. The results are compared to the test results.
