Even though a series of cutting jobs for a small workpiece can be finished at one set-up. any machine tool builder hasn’t been able to build a module type of multi-functional machine which can do most of machining jobs for large-sized workpiece like turbine driving shaft & crankshaft of large generation facilities requiring "heavy cutting jobs" at one set-up until today. Therefore. high productivity & machining accuracy couldn’t be guaranteed in the previous process requiring separate workpiece set-up in each cutting process, In this regard. we have finally developed a multi-functional machine which can complete all the machining jobs of a large & complicated component at one set-up on one machine, In the next step. however. it is also required to develop the analysis of a machine structure, CAD data processing module through the cutting status checking software to monitor the cutting result on the machine. Multi-Function Module. AAC & ATC and the post-process technology of NC Data at the sane tine.

This paper describes a case study on dynamic characteristics analysis of a 5-axis multi-tasking machine tool of ram-head typed. Natural frequency and corresponding vibration modes of the machine tool structure were obtained by using both FEM modal analysis and an experimental modal test(impulse hammer test). Both the theoretical and experiment analysis results showed good agreement with each other. Finally, some discussion and review, from the view point of resonance vibration and/or mode coupled chatter, were made based on the analysis results.

This paper describes a case study on dynamic stiffness analysis of a 5-axes multi-tasking machine tool. Dynamic stiffness is one of important factors regarding to machine tool accuracy. Dynamic stiffness, in this study, were obtained by using both FEM analysis and an experimental dynamic stiffness test, that is a random excitation test by using a hydraulic exciter. Both the theoretical and experiment analysis results showed good agreement with each other. Finally, some discussion and review from the view point absolute dynamic stiffness were made based on the analysis results.

A single-piece-machined-part has superior characteristics to an assembly of several pieces of part especially for aircraft components. It is neccesary to develop high efficient 'multi-head router machine' for machining a large size single-piece-part on a large scale. In this type machine, many cutting chips are generated. These chips should be removed automatically for productivity and part precision. In this research, cutting chip collecting apparatus for 'multi-head router machine' was designed. A suction-type-blower (20 HP, Δp3,000㎜Ag), which was attached to the machine tool directly, was very effective.

In this paper, a multi-step optimization using a G.A. (Genetic Algorithm) with variable penalty function is introduced to the structural design optimization of a 5-head route machine. Our design procedure consist of two design optimization stage. The first stage of the design optimization is static design optimization. The following stage is dynamic design optimization stage. In the static optimization stage, the static compliance and weight of the structure are minimized simultaneously under some dimensional constraints and deflection limits. On the other hand, the dynamic compliance and the weight of the machine structure are minimized simultaneously in the dynamic design optimization stage. As the results, dynamic compliance of the 5-head router machine was decreased by about 37% and the weight of the structure was decreased by 4.48% respectively compared with the simplified structure model.

선박 엔진 크랭크샤프트 가공용 다기능 5축 복합가공기의 구조설계

This paper describes a case study on structural design of a 5-axes multi-tasking machine tool for machining marine engine crankshaft. We carried out static and dynamic structural analysis for several design alternatives of the machine tool by using ANSYS. From the analysis results, we could decide a feasible design candidate. And then we carried out design optimization of the design candidate for light weight and minimum compliance using genetic algorithm. After the prototype machine tool was made, natural frequency and dynamic stiffness of the machine tool structure were obtained by using a experimental modal test and a random excitation test, respectively. The test results showed that the prototype machine tool has sufficient structural stiffness and high natural frequency.
