This study has the purpose of identifying the ultimate narration of 「PyeonOkKiWooKi」(편옥기우기). It was identified that this work takes the narration of family breakup, exploration, and creation as the point by debate. The conclusion by this research is as following. First, this work is divided as three parts in large and the first part describes the process of breaking up the family. The father who takes the center of the family comes out of the character with will and behavior to keep his own political opinion strongly. The tendency of this conflicts with family owing to mother’s worry and opinion for the safe family and adds danger obviously to the family. The daughter who was left after experiencing the crisis enters the process of exploration to creation the family. In the process of exploration, she got to find out the way to the family, and as a method, there comes a new family to be replaced with the original complete family. Through this process the daughter makes a new complete family and the family creation goes towards the process of completion. Second, there is a political desire in the back of family reconstruction which takes the main of this narration. Maybe the political failure that appears in the front and back of this work and the compensation for the failure take a certain role to stress the political desire implicated in the narration of the family reconstruction. The narration of family creation and political narration like this reflect the hidden desire for recover of the people who had experienced political failure and can be presumed as the writers. Third, this work has a certain meaning in the sense that it suggests a realistic issue to the family with the problem of family breakup and creation by mobilizing the narration of family reconstruction. However there is this work’s own trait in the aspect that it has so much desire for family creation that it can’t express the narration deeply through the conflicts and failed to make it realistic. The excessive awareness for the idea to make family reconstruction the narration leads the work to just remain on the board of making narration and expressing idea and failed to attain the mature narration. It is the general point of literary meaning in this work.

『은애전』의 창작 의도 고찰

본고는 「사씨남정기」의 조동일 소장본을 분석하여, 이 소설이 가진 작품 구조의 핵심이 인정 투쟁에 기반을 두고 있으며 그것이 여성의 대립적 인물로 굳어지고 이는 현실에서 활동하던 인물을 소설로 표현하며 전형성을 확보한다는 것을 밝히려는 것이다. 작품에서의 여성은 인정 투쟁이라는 행동의 기준을 철저하게 수행하면서 이를 실현하는 과정에서 두 방향의 타자에 대한 태도를 보인다. 사씨는 타자 긍정의 인정 투쟁을 벌이는 반면에 교씨는 타자 부정의 인정 투쟁을 벌인다. 이처럼 작품은 인정 투쟁의 두 가지 방향을 따르는 여성 인물로 등장한다. 여성 인물은 이분법으로 나누어진 형상을 띠면서 대립적인 갈등을 벌이는 존재로 형상화된다. 여성 인물의 극한적인 대립은 사회의 변화와 그것에 대해 소설에서 현실의 실상을 그것 대로 수용하여 온전하게 사회문제로 지적하는 것이다. 이는 여성을 개인적 차원에서 고립된 존재가 아니라 사회적 존재로도 상호적인 측면을 갖는 존재로 인식하기 때문이다. 더불어 이 소설은 여성 인물의 형상화 방식의 전형성을 확보해 놓은 의의도 가진다. 여성이 가정에서 인정 투쟁을 벌이면 어떤 보상을 행하는가 그렇게 하지 않는다면 어떻게 책임을 묻는가를 문제 삼고 있다. 이는 사회라는 장으로 확대되면서 여성이 살아가는 중요한 장소에서 벌어지는 문제를 제시해 놓았다. 곧 작품에서는 여성에게 가정에서의 인정과 사회에서의 인정이 삶의 전부를 차지할 정도로 중요한 관심거리로 나타날 수 있으며 그런 과정에서 순응적인 인물이 겪는 고난도 실상대로 드러내고 일탈적인 인물이 겪는 경험도 실상대로 드러내는 특징을 갖고 있다. 여성이 사회 표면에서 누리는 현상의 이면에서 고난을 어떻게 겪고 있는지 그것이 극복되었을 때는 어떤 보상이나 벌이 내려지는지 등을 잘 드러낸다. 이는 소설로써 여성의 전형성 확보를 꾀하고 있는 문제다. The female figure appears as a figure divided into dichotomy, and is embodied as a dichotomous being who engages in confrontational conflict. The extreme confrontation between the female characters is a social problem, fully acknowledging changes in society and the reality of reality in the novel as it is. This is because women are perceived not as isolated beings at the individual level, but as beings with mutual aspects as social beings. Moreover, the theme of the work is given to the endless groping and research of the author`s on the character who pursues the true value of life. Thus, owing to the tangibility of this work, it is proper to use the term "A Type of Authenticity Confirmation Novel." 본고는 기존의 논의에서 「양반전」의 유형으로 설정·제시된 견해를 비판적으로 수용하여 이 소설을 새로운 유형에 넣는다면 과연 어떤 유형에 넣을 수 있는지를 찾아본 것이다. 기존의 연구에서 고려하지 않았던 여러 측면을 찾아내어 이를 적용하여 작품의 특성을 온전히 드러낼 수 있는 적당한 작품의 유형적 용어를 설정 한다면 이 작품은 진·가 확인형이 알맞다. 진·가 확인형은 작품에서 서사가 전개되는 과정과 인물이 등장하는 양상과 그들이 맺는 관계, 주제와 작자 의식이 지향하는 것 등을 고려하여 설정한 것으로 작품의 실상을 제대로 드러낼 수 있는 요건을 두루 갖추고 있다. 여러 가지 점에서 작품의 실상에 맞는 유형상의 용어를 작품에 부여하고 그런 유형의 특성을 제대로 드러내는 용어를 붙이기 위해서는 기존의 논의에서 주목하지 않았던 점에 주목해야 하며 작품의 실상을 그것대로 중시해야 한다는 시각이 무엇보다 필요하다고 보고 본고에서는 그런 점을 중시하여 이런 결과를 도출해냈다. 서사의 측면에서 작품의 중요한 부분에는 송사가 주를 이루고 있기는 하다. 그러나 이 작품의 서사를 송사로 규정하는 것은 작품의 일부분에 한정해서 타당하지 전제에 걸쳐서 타당한 것은 아니다. 작품에서의 서사는 송사라기보다 진정한 가지를 구현한 쪽은 어느 측인가에 대한 작자의 확인과 모색에 주안점을 두고 있다. 인물도 진짜와 가짜라는 특성을 지닌 쪽으로 나눌 수 있는 성격을 가지고 있어 이런 논리를 뒷받침하고 있다. 두 쪽의 인물들은 상대를 향해 자신은 진짜이고 상대는 가짜라고 주장하면서 서로를 배척하려고만 하며 송사는 그런 과정 가운데 하나의 확인을 위한 수단으로 설정되어 있는 성격이 짙다. 작품의 주제는 진정한 가치를 추구하는 삶의 자세는 어떠해야 하는지에 대한 방향제시라고 할 수 있다. 이런 점은 작자 의식이 지향하는 바와도 일정하게 연관되어 있다. 박지원은 기존의 사회를 비판하고 새로운 사회를 모색하는 과정으로 문학을 활용한 측면에 강한데, 작자는 이 작품을 통해서 이런 작자의 의식을 일정하게 수행하려는 의도를 실현하려고 했다. 따라서 위에 제시한 여러 측면을 고려하여 작품의 유형적 특성을 제대로 드러낼 수 있는 적절한 용어로는 진·가 확인형이라는 것을 확인한 것이 본고가 얻은 최종적인 결과다.

어문학 : 「요로원야화기」의 가치 갈등과 그 의미

「요로원야화기」는 조선 후기 박두세에 의해 창작한 소설로 알려져 있다. 본고는 이 작품을 형성하는 중요한 구성 축은 무엇인가를 찾아보고 그것이 작품에서 떠맡은 기능과 의미는 무엇인가를 작품 차원에서 논의해 본 것이다. 작품을 구성하는 궁극적인 틀이 가치 갈등이라는 점을 문제 삼아 그것을 가지고 작품에서는 대화와 시의 수창을 중요한 방법으로 사용하였는데 이런 방법이 작품에서 어떤 기능을 수행하며 무슨 의미를 지니고 있는지 따져보았다. 서사는 등장인물이 가진 가치의 차이에 근거한 갈등이 중요한 축을 이루고 있다. 모르는 사람이 어쩔 수 없는 상황에서 만나 치열한 대화를 나누다가 결국 헤어지는 것으로 서사를 구성해 놓았다. 서사를 이끌어가는 중요한 요인으로는 등장인물이 각자의 처지에 따라 달리 형성하고 있는 가치의 차이다. 이는 작품을 형성하는 중요한 방식인 대화와 시의 수창을 이끌어나가는 중요한 요소로써 작용한다. 나아가 이는 작품의 중요한 구성 원리를 이루어 형식과 내용을 지배하기까지 한다. 가치의 갈등을 보여주려 작품에는 대화와 시의 수창을 적극적으로 활용하고 있다. 두 가지 요소는 가치 갈등의 과정이나 방식이 어떻게 진행되는지를 잘 나타내준다. 대화를 통해서는 가치 갈등이 심각한 긴장을 일으키면서 진행되는 것을 보여주고 시의 수창은 가치 갈등이 풀려 이완한 상태임을 보여준다. 가치 갈등이 가진 본질적인 성격을 대화와 시의 수창은 작품의 결구방식에서 적절하게 활용하여 얽어놓았다. 이에 따라 작품은 전체적으로 서사적 틀에 근거하여 긴박하게도 전개되고 이완하게도 펼쳐진다. 가치 갈등의 양식으로 동원된 대화와 시의 수창은 작품의 의미를 결정하는 요소로 작용한다. 작품은 다른 사람과 만나 어떻게 대화를 시작하며 그 대화를 전개해 나가는 과정은 어떤 식으로 진행되고 구성되며 이런 과정을 거치던 대화가 결국 실패한다면 어떤 해결책을 모색할 수 있는가를 보여준다. 결국 작품은 의사소통 과정 전체의 단계와 그것의 결말을 그것대로 존중해야 한다는 의미를 우리에게 전해준다. 이는 작품이 창작된 시대의 사람들이 중요하게 생각하는 문제를 문학적으로 형상화해 놓았다는 점에 일정한 의미를 갖는다 하겠다. It has been known that 「Yorowonyahwagi」(요로원야화기)is a novel written by Park Du Se(박두세) in the late Joseon dynasty. This study has noticed the important compositional axis of the novel and stressed on its function and significance in the work for the debate. With the issue of identifying ultimate frame of composition, conversation and reading the poetry were used to contemplate the function and significance of those methods. Value conflict based on different value of characters takes important role in epic. The epic was composed as that a stranger got to meet someone in an inevitable situation and shared a heated conversation eventually straying apart. The important factor leading the epic is based on different value that was established accordant to the background of the characters. The different value makes important variable to lead the conversation and reading the poetry which are important methods to make the work. In addition it creates the vital principle of the composition filling the meaningful part of contents and the formality. As the formality to show value conflict, the novel uses conversation and reading the poetry actively. These two elements show directly the process or the direction of value conflict. Through conversation it shows the value conflict progressing with severe strain, while reading the poetry shows the value conflict reached to the situation relaxed. These two elements take the role to show the characteristic of value conflict harmoniously. They makes the epic stringent as well as relaxed. Those methods of conversation and reading the poetry utilized as the value conflict determine the significance of the work. The novel shows how to begin conversation with a stranger, how the conversation progresses, and which solution can be made when the conversation eventually falls into failure. Ultimately this work delivers us the meaning that we have to respect the whole steps of communication and its conclusion in itself. This novel has a certain significance in the sense it shaped the issue that the people in those days considered as important in the literature.

「허생전」 이상사회의 사상적 토대

본고에서는 「허생전」이 이상사회에 대한 건설에 시종일관 관심을 두고 있으며 사상적 근거로 원시유가를 중시함을 밝혀보려고 한다. 「허생전」에는 현실적인 문제를 해결하기 위한 방법으로 이상사회가 설정되고 이상사회가 하나만의 고정된 사회가 아니라 둘 또는 그 이상의 여러 단계를 거치는 유동적 사회임을 보여준다. 작품을 지배하는 서사는 이상사회에 대한 탐색과 좌절 그리고 그것에 대한 재탐색이 이루어지므로 작품을 이상사회의 건설이라는 관점으로 보아야 한다. 「허생전」의 이상사회는 『예기』에서 제시한 것과 일정하게 관련되어 있다. 「허생전」에는 허생이 출가하여 무인공도에 건설한 1차적 이상사회와 그곳에서 돌아와 이완에게 이상사회를 이루기 위해 제시한 원칙을 따른다면 건설 가능한 2차적 이상사회가 설정되어 있다. 전자가 소강의 이념이라면, 후자는 대동의 이념에 따른 것이다. 허생은 이상사회에서 덕만 있으면 사람들이 저절로 찾아들 것임으로, 먼저 이상사회가 덕에 기초하여 이루어져야 한다고 강조하고, 2차적 이상사회는 올바른 정치의 수행으로 미래의 현실 사회에서 구현해야 할 당위라고 한다. 허생이 주장하는 이상사회의 기본적 특징이 실학을 표면으로 하고 원시유가를 이면으로 한다는 생각은 주자학의 이론적 편향성을 극복하기 위한 점에서는 일정한 의의를 갖고 있는데 유학의 이념체계에 머문다는 한계가 있다. 시대적 한계를 뛰어넘고 사상적 혁신을 도모하려 한다면 유학의 테두리를 뛰어넘어 새로운 사상으로의 방향 전환을 이룩해야 하지만 작품에 나타난 이상사회는 그렇지 못한 점이 많다. 허생이 가진 사상적 대안으로 제시한 원시유가를 속으로 하고 실학을 겉으로 한 이상사회에 대한 건설 기반은 한계에 봉착할 수밖에 없다. 그 한계는 이상사회에 대한 추구에서 소강과 대동의 사이에서 방황하는 작자의 의식의 갈등 양상에서 포착해 낼 수 있다. In this work, frustration and seeking are consistent for establishing ideal society. As the method to solve actual problems, the process setting ideal society and suggest it with the developed form is dominating the whole work. The narration dominating the work is exploration, frustration and reexploration for ideal society. The ideal society of the work is resemble to what 『Yegi』(예기) suggested. If the first ideal society was set by the concept of Sogang(소강), the second ideal society was set by the concept of daedong(대동). The society showed differences such as successful fulfillment and failed fulfillment in the work, but it`s natural that it is related the context to the society of sogang(소강) and daedong(대동) in 『Yegi』(예기) generally. Heosaeng, a hero of the work, insists that the second ideal society must be established by fulfillment of correct politics after the first ideal society fulfilled by virtues while mentioning that the worry is few virtues, not few people as people will visit the ideal society naturally if there are virtues in ideal society. The mention of ideal actualized stage and concept is certainly related to the mention of virtue`s training process and goal in primitive Confucianism whose ideal is to cultivate morality, participate in politics and share the benefits to general people. The thought he supports, Silhak(실학), has a certain significance for enduring Jujahak`s(주자학) theoretical bias and also has a limitation that it stays in conceptual system of yuhak(유학) originally. If intending to beyond periodical limitation and promote ideological innovation and changing the direction to new ideology beyond the limitations, effects or innovation can be more efficient. But, it cannot but help meeting limitation with the setting of direction to the ideal society based on seongrihak(성리학) of primitive Confucianism, suggested as his ideological alternative. The limitations are accepted to the awareness of scholar who wonders between sogang(소강) and daedong(대동) while pursuing the ideal society.

〈호질〉의 사상적 기반

This article has studied on what kind of values one will possess upon reading the piece Hojil(호질) through the history of idea flow in the 17<SUP>th</SUP> century-18<SUP>th</SUP> century. Joseon in this periodwent through efforts for ideological changes and in particular, the rise of Wang Yangming philosophy needs close attention. The reason for this is that as Confucianism, which supported Joseon, started to fall, it is the period when Wang Yangming philosophy started becoming recognized as an official philosophy to substitute Confucianism. As this history of idea flow acts as element of foundation of the piece, it has a special meaning. In the pieceare two characters who establish a tense relationship. In the piece, the tiger and Bugoaseonsaeng(북곽선생)rule the world with clear distinctions and try to meet each other but fails. The process of the two characters trying to meet and the result holds important narrative form of the piece. Such trait can be seen when the tiger reproves humans. Such characteristic can be seen as the tiger is shown criticizing Bugoaseonsaeng (북곽선생), using words that were used in ideological issues. The tiger criticizes the human world based on Wang Yangming ideology. Bugoaseonsaeng (북곽선생), who hears that criticism, has ideas based on Confucianism. Such Bugoaseonsaeng (북곽선생), based on Confucianism, has nothing to say against the tiger’s Wang Yangming philosophical criticism. The two worlds meeting and trying to make up but failing has much to do with the history of idea flows. The reason that two worlds, Confucianism and Wang Yangming philosophy, in this piece seems to be the result of ideological situation that took place in Joseon in the 17<SUP>th</SUP> century-18<SUP>th</SUP> century. Thus, the introduction and development of Wang Yangming philosophy acts as an important ideological foundation making up the piece.
