Adult Literacy as Social Formation of Mind: A Network Text Analysis of Poems by Literacy Learners

그동안 성인 문해의 의미는 사회경제적 효용을 강조하는 기능주의나 학습자의 긍정적 정체성 변화에 주목하는 휴머니즘적 관점에서 주로 논의되어 왔다. 이 연구는 문해학습자들이 직접 쓴 시를 분석하여, 성인학습자에게 문해가 갖는 의미를 탐색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 R 패키지를 이용하여 2012-2019년 전국 성인문해 시화전 수상작 389편의 시 텍스트 네트워크를 분석하였다. 기능적, 관계적, 존재적 차원으로 나누어 학습자 자신(나)와 연결된 노드들의 관계를 살펴본 결과, 기능적 차원에서는 문해는 ‘문자로 구성된 세계’에 눈을 뜨는 것으로 요약되었다. 관계적 차원에서는 ‘말하는 의식’으로, 존재론적 차원에서는 ‘확장된 사회적 관계 안의 나’로 요약되었는데, 이는 곧 사유의 확장을 의미하였다. 연구 결과를 토대로 성인 문해를 기능적, 관계적, 존재적 세 차원의 결합체이자, 도구와 기호를 매개로 한 ‘마음의 사회적 형성’으로 규정하고 그 시사점에 대해 제시하였다. Problematizing some ideas of functional literacy and overemphasis on learners’ change into positive identity, the present study analyzes a network text of 389 poems written by Korean adult literacy learners with R package for elucidating their views of self in relation to literacy. Centering on the I, the interconnectivity among major words is analyzed in three dimensions (functional, relational, and ontological). In the functional dimension, literacy is crystallized as eye-opening, revealing the world of the written word. In the relational dimension, literacy is understood as speaking consciousness by writing letters to parents or spouses. In the ontological dimension, literacy is understood as I within an expanded social relationship that implies expansion of thought. In conclusion, this article presents literacy as a complex unit of three dimensions, defined as social formation of mind mediated by tools and signs.

코로나19 관련 평생교육연구의 주요 주제 및 이슈 분석

이 논문은 평생교육 분야 COVID-19 연구의 핵심 주제와 이슈를 파악하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 2020년과 2021년에 출판된 코로나 관련 평생교육 학술 논문(KCI, SCOPUS, SSCI 등재) 20편을 대상으로 주제 분석을 수행하였다. 분석 결과 드러난 3가지 핵심 주제는 불평등 심화와 평생교육의 대응, 팬데믹 시대의 평생학습 재규정, 디지털 전환의 양면성이다. 주제별로 2가지 이슈가 도출되었고, 총 6개의 이슈는 다음과 같다. (1) 건강 불평등에 대한 인식과 재난 대응 도구로서의 평생교육, (2) 교육훈련 기회의 불평등과 마태효과 심화, (3) 무형식학습 및 전환학습 양상, (4) 지역사회의 회복탄력성과 평생학습, (5) 평생교육 실천가의 디지털 역량에 대한 과도한 강조, (6) 디지털 리터러시와 소속의 정치학이다. 결론에서는 포스트 코로나 사회에서 평생교육이 나아갈 방향과 평생교육 연구자들의 역할에 대해 논의하였다. This paper aims to identify the key themes and issues of COVID-19-related research in lifelong education. 20 articles published between 2020 and 2021 were analyzed by thematic analysis method. The articles were indexed in KCI, SCOPUS or SSCI. The analysis revealed three key themes: the deepening of inequality and the response; the redefinition of lifelong learning during the pandemic; and the ambivalence about digital transformation. The following six issues were identified: (i) awareness of health inequality and lifelong education as a disaster response tool; (ii) Matthew effect; (iii) promoting informal and transformative learning; (iv) resilience of the local community; (v) overemphasis on digital skills; and (vi) digital literacy creating politics of belonging. Finally, the direction of lifelong education in the post-coronavirus society and the role of lifelong education researchers were discussed.

‘역설적 공간’으로서의 학습공동체: 후기구조주의 공간 관점에서 학습공동체 재사유하기

이 연구의 목적은 기존 학습공동체 논의에 대한 비판적 성찰과 후기구조주의 공간 관점에서 학습공동체 재사유 방향을 탐색하는 것이다. 문헌분석을 통해 학습공동체 논의의 구체적인 특징을 분석하였고, 특이성, 유동성, 위치성으로 특징 지워지는 후기구조주의 공간 관점에서 학습공동체에 대한 3가지 재사유 방향을 제시하였으며, 이 새로운 개념의 학습공동체를 ‘역설적 공간으로서의 학습공동체’로 명명하였다. 첫째, ‘작품이 아닌’ 학습공동체: 공동체중심에서 특이성의 학습공동체성으로 둘째, ‘사이공간’을 창출하는 학습공동체: 경계만들기에서 연결접속의 배치로 셋째, ‘공간정치’로서 학습공동체: 장소성에서 위치성으로 학습공동체 재사유하기를 제안하였다. 이 연구는 공동체에 대한 경직된 사유에서 탈피하여 학습공동체의 다양한 존재 방식과 역동을 보다 입체적으로 파악할 수 있도록 학습공동체 논의를 확장한다는 점에서 의미가 있다. Learning community has long been regarded as an ideal concept in lifelong learning. Though the concept has evolved gradually according to the social trends― ranging from learning circles, learning organizations, and learning villages, to learning communities― Learning community has been noted as a key mechanism of the learning society. This paper raised questions on current discourses of learning community, which are based on rigid ideas of community and fail to fully capture the dynamics of learning community. Thus, the study analyzed the characteristics of existing learning community discourses critically and suggested a new thinking flux of the post-structuralism’s space perspectives, characterized by ‘singularity’, ‘fluidity’, and ‘positionality’. The new concept of learning community that encompasses these three characteristics is referred to as ‘learning community as a paradoxical space’. (1) a learning community rather than a work as a learning community with a ‘singularity’, (2) a learning community that creates ‘in-between-spaces’ from the creation of boundaries to the placement of connections, and (3) a learning community as ‘spatial politics’ with positionality. This study is meaningful in that it critically reflects learning community discourses and suggests more stereoscopic understanding of its aspects and dynamics.

학습자자세, 학습관리장치, 맥락지식 -평생학습이론 구축을 위한 중심 개념 탐색-

이 연구의 목적은 그동안 주로 거대담론으로 다루어진 평생학습을 미시 혹은 중시적 접근으로 이론화하는데 필요한 중심 개념을 탐색하는 것이다. 평생학습의 시간축, 공간축, 의미축을 포착하기 위해 학습자자세, 학습관리장치, 맥락지식을 평생학습이론의 중심 개념으로 제시하였다. 학습 자자세는 학습활동을 사회문화역사적 현상으로 파악하기 위한 개념으로, 조건화된 학습자가 학습 사건을 경험하며 성취하는 행위자성이다. 학습관리장치는 인간의 다양한 생활영역에서 학습활동에 개입하는 언어적, 비언어적 모든 요소를 포함하는 집합체이자 요소들(담론, 제도, 조직, 도구 등) 사이의 네트워크이며 학습자와 연결된 권력/지식과의 관계 속에서 작동한다. 맥락지식은 과학적 지식과 경험적 지식의 이분법을 넘어 학습활동이라는 맥락에서 의미를 갖는 지식이다. 세개념간의 관계는 다음과 같다. 학습관리장치는 맥락지식의 유통을 통해 학습자를 (재)생산한다. 학습자자세는 맥락지식의 변형과 창출 및 유통을 위한 새로운 학습관리장치의 생성을 가능케 한다. 맥락지식의 유통은 학습활동의 발생 조건이다. 세 개의 중심 개념에 대한 후속 작업을 통한 평생학습이론 구축을 위해 1990년대 이후 한국 사회에서 전개되어 온 평생학습 실천 경험에 대한 사례 연구를 향후 과제로 제안하였다. Lifelong learning has so far been studied mainly within a macro discourse, being more of a policy rhetoric than a concept to figure out human learning activities. While adult learning theories have given plausible explanations for the learning phenomena within certain phases or stages of life in adulthood, it does not succeed in exploring lifelong learning activity and its impact on the formation of one’s life itself.  In addition to the given macro discourse, this paper proposes a lifelong learning theory from the micro- and/or meso-level approach. To account for life stages (the progressive lifespan angle), domains of life (the horizontal life-wide angle), and life meanings (the axial life-deep angle), we introduce three core concepts and discuss their interrelationship. (1) Learner positions show what learners exhibit when experiencing learning events. (2) Learning management apparatuses represent all factors such as discourses, institutions and learning tools as well as the network among the factors, which engage in one s learning activities. (3) Contextual knowledge reveals what learners read into their learning activities. As to the interrelationship,  learning management apparatuses (re)produce learners through the distribution of contextual knowledge. Learner positions enable learners to create new learning management apparatus to distribute, modify, and create contextual knowledge. Contextual knowledge lays the groundwork for learning activities. These core concepts require being substantiated and embodied by a empirical case studies to derive a lifelong learning theory that can tell more about our learning lives.
