        지진대피소 선정 평가 프레임워크 개발 및 적용

        최근 국내 지진으로 인해 지진 대피소에 대한 중요성이 강조되고 있지만, 기존 국내 지진 대피소 지정 기준이 모호하며 체계적인 절차가 없어 적절한 대피소 지정이 어려운 실정이다. 이에 본 연구는 다기준 의사결정 기반 객관적이고 정량적인 지진 대피소 선정평가 프레임워크를 제안하고, 인천광역시 송도동 지진대피소 사례연구를 통해 적용 방법을 제시하고자 한다. 먼저 문헌 연구를 통해 대피소 평가 관련 지표를 추출하였고 텍스트마이닝을 사용하여 정제 및 그룹화를 통해 평가영역을 도출한다. 선택된 평가 지표는 균일한 점수 범위를 갖도록 표준화하였고, AHP 방법을 통한 각 평가영역의 상대적 가중치를 통해 지진대피소에 최종 평가점수가 도출된다. 사례연구 결과, 기존 대피소와 더불어 지진대피소로 적합한 추가 후보지를 식별할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 체계적인 지진대피소 지정 프로세스의 기반이 될 수 있으며, 지진대피소 선정평가 업무에 실용적으로 적용 및 지정된 대피소에 효용성을 확보하는데 공헌한다. The importance of designated earthquake shelters has been emphasized in South Korea. However, the lack of an appropriate evaluation process for shelter candidates often leads to an ad-hoc selection of earthquake shelters, resulting in inefficient disaster management. To address this issue, this study proposes an evaluation framework based on multi-criteria decision-making to measure the suitability of earthquake shelters quantitatively. First, available indicators for shelter evaluation are extracted from the relevant literature, which are then streamlined and grouped using text mining to represent evaluation areas. Next, the selected indicators are standardized to the same value scale, and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is used to derive the relative importance of each evaluation area to compute the weighted sum total score of each candidate. The developed evaluation framework is applied to a case study of earthquake shelter selection in the city of Songdo-dong. The results show that there are additional shelter candidates suitable for earthquake evacuation in addition to the current designated shelters. This study can serve as a basis for objective shelter selection that would improve the identification and utility of designated shelters.

        Infection Status with Clonorchis sinensis Metacercariae in Fish from Yangcheon (Stream) in Sancheong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do, Korea

        The infection status with Clonorchis sinensis metacercariae (CsMc) was examined in freshwater fishes from Yangcheon (a branch of Gyeongho-gang), which is located in Sancheong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do, the Republic of Ko- rea. Total 2,201 fishes in 26 species were examined by the artificial digestion method through 7 years. CsMc were detect- ed in 1,171 (53.2%) fishes in 21 spp. (80.8%) and their density was 85 per fish infected. Total 532 (99.6%) out of 534 Pungtungia herzi (index fish) examined were infected with 147 CsMc per fish infected. Metacercarial densities in this fish were highest in 2015 (179 CsMc), followed by 2012 (168), 2013 (152), 2016 (145), 2014 (114), and 2017 (89) respectively. In the gobioninid fish group, i.e., P. herzi, Sarcocheilichthys spp., Squalidus spp., Pseudogobio esocinus, Hemibarbus lon- girostris, and Hemibarbus labeo, 841 (92.7%) fishes were infected with 117 CsMc per fish infected. Total 250 (54.7%) acheilognathinid fish (bitterlings), Acheilognathus spp. and Acanthorhodeus spp. were infected with 5.8 CsMc. In the ras- borinid fish (chubs) group, i.e., Zacco platypus, Zacco temminckii, and Zacco koreanus, 77 (13.7%) out of 563 fish exam- ined were infected with 2.4 CsMc in average. The susceptibility indices of CsMc were 49.09 in the overall positive fish group, 104.15 in the gobioninid group, 3.17 in the acheilognathinid group and 0.35 in the rasborinid fish group respective- ly. Only 1 CsMc was detected in 3 fish species, Coreoperca herzi, Channa argus, and Lepomis macrochirus, respectively. Conclusively, it was confirmed that CsMc are moderately prevalent in fishes from Yangcheon in Sancheon-gun, Gyeong- sangnam-do, Korea.

        Imported human babesiosis in the Republic of Korea, 2019: two case reports

        Human babesiosis is a tick-borne disease induced by the genus Babesia and has been significantly reported in the Republic of Korea. This report shows the cases of 2 patients with human babesiosis who traveled to the USA in 2019. The 2 patients experienced fever and had travel histories to babesiosis-endemic regions. The diagnoses of both cases were verified by the identification of Babesia-infected red blood cells on blood smears. One patient was found to be infected with Babesia microti using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for 18S rRNA, which discovered the phylogenetic link to the B. microti strain endemic in the USA. The 2 patients recovered from fever with subsequent hemoparasite clearance. Babesiosis could be diagnosed in anyone with histories of travel to babesiosis- endemic countries and tick bites. Furthermore, Babesia-specific PCR is required for determining geno-and phenotypic characteristics.

        2DSpotDB: A Database for the Annotated Two-dimensional Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis of Pathogen Proteins

        The biological interpretation of two-dimensional (2D) gel electrophoresis experiments is a key step toward understanding the functions of biological systems. We here present a web-based integrated database, called 2DSpotDB, for the management of proteome data derived from several pathogens. The 2DSpotDB was established as a part of the management of a pathogen proteome project at the Korea National Institute of Health. The goals of the 2DSpotDB implementation are to store and define important pathogen genes, retrieve information obtained by 2D polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and mass spectrometry, and create an integrated system to provide pathogen proteome information for biological scientists. This database currently contains 14 gels and information on 387 protein spots, among which 329 proteins were identified and annotated.

        Positive rates for Enterobius vermicularis eggs among preschool children in Yeosu-si, Jeollanam-do, Korea (2017-2021)

        This study aimed to evaluate the positive rates for Enterobius vermicularis eggs among preschool children in Yeosu-si, Jeollanam-do, the Republic of Korea (Korea) over a period of 5 years (2017-2021). Perianal swab samples, obtained using cellotape, from 10,392 preschool children in 26 districts were examined microscopically for E. vermicularis eggs. The test results were notified through the local health center, and the families of children who tested positive were advised to provide them anthelmintics treatment. The annual positive rates were 5.0%, 5.2%, 4.4%, 2.2%, and 1.0% in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021, respectively. The overall positive rate was higher in boys than in girls (P<0.05), and children aged 5-7 years were at a higher risk of being infected than those aged 0-4 years (P<0.05). Although the rates of infection by E. vermicularis in the survey area, Yeosu-si, were still in the 1% range , the results of this study suggest that they can be significantly reduced through continuous intervention centered around the test–treatment strategy.

        Follow-up Study of Patients Previously Diagnosed with Lymphatic Filariasis in Korea

        Objectives: Korea was an endemic area for lymphatic filariasis (LF), caused by the nematode parasite Brugia malayi, until the 1970s. The World Health Organization recognized Korea as LFfree in June 2008. However, it is necessary to confirm that patients that have had LF in the past still test negative, to prevent the re-emergence of LF in Korea. Methods: We followed up a total of 83 patients who had been diagnosed with LF between 2002 and 2010 in endemic LF areas. Results: Fifty-two of the 83 subjects were negative for LF, whereas 31 subjects had re-located to a different city or province, were dead, or were unaccounted for. Most subjects with negative test results still exhibited edema in the legs or the arms, and some complained of redness and swelling in the legs or ankle joints. However, we found that these symptoms were due to diseases other than LF. Conclusion: In this follow-up study, we did not find any evidence indicating the potential reemergence of LF in Korea.

      • On-bead cell-free protein synthesis of parasite antigenic candidates for high-throughput expression and screening

        Screening of suitable antigen is an important step in the development of diagnostic and therapeutic tools in the medical field. This study describes high-throughput expression screening of parasite based on the techniques of cell-free protein synthesis. The libraries of Plasmodium vivax and Clonorchis sinensis genes were PCR-amplified and immobilized on streptavidin agarose beads. Through dual functionalization of the agarose beads to capture 6xhistidine-tagged proteins as well as the biotinylated PCR products, when expressed in a reaction mixture for cell-free synthesis,template DNA and the expressed protein were in situ immobilized on the same beads. This approach of in situ expression and isolation enables streamlined recovery and analysis of cell-free synthesized proteins and also allows facile identification of the genes coding antigenic proteins through direct PCR of the microbead-bound DNA.
