구타이 미술협회 초기의 특성 - 전 ‘제로그룹(0會)’을 중심으로 -

본 연구의 목적은 구타이안에서 중추적 미술활동을 하였던 전 제로그룹 작가 4 인을 중심으로, 구타이 초기(1955-1957) 미술에서 그들의 미술활동에 대한 고찰을 통해 구타이 초기미술의 전 제로그룹 4인의 의미와 구타이 미술의 초기의 특징을 부각시키고자 한다. 연구의 대상은 구타이의 결성 과정, 전개의 개략과 더불어 구타이 초기 미술전의 전개를 전 제로그룹 중심으로 살펴보고, 뿐만 아니라 제로그룹 멤버 4 인의 미술활동과 각자의 예술의 특성을 고찰하고자 한다. 그리고 연구방법으로는 저서, 잡지, 신문기사, 학술 논문, 전람회 도록 등을 주로 참조하였다. 연구결과, 전 제로그룹(1952-1955) 멤버 중 4 인의 작가(무라카미, 시라가, 타나카, 카나야마)는 구타이 가입 전부터 전위적 작품과 신체 행위를 이용한 미술표현을 모색하고 발표하였다. 그들은 구타이에 가입 후 퍼포먼스, 인스톨레이션, 라이트 아트, 관객참가형 작품 등을 선보이며 특유의 첨예한 작품성을 주목받았다. 이들의 선구적 미술 활동은 다른 구타이 멤버들을 자극시켰으며, 구타이 초기 미술활동의 견인차 역할을 하였다. 1950년대 일본 미술계의 상황은 독자적 모더니즘의 결여와 서구문화와 미술에 대한 동경 등 여러 요소들이 복합적으로 반영되어 있고 이러한 시대적 배경에서 구타이 초기의 첨예한 표현 작품들은 새로운 시대 문화와 예술을 향한 작가들의 정신성을 발로라고 해석할 수 있겠다. The purpose of this study is to clarify the significance of four former Zero Group members in the early Gutai art and the characteristics of the early Gutai art by considering their art activities during that period, focusing on the four former Zero Group members who played central roles in Gutai art. The subjects of this study are the process of forming Gutai and the outline of its development. The study examines the development of the early art exhibitions of Gutai and consider the activities of the four former Zero Group members and their art cha-racteristics. Also, the research method mainly referred to books, magazines,news-paper articles, academic papers, and exhibition catalogs. The four former Zero Group members (Kanayama, Murakami, Shiraga, Tanaka) explored and presented Avant-Garde art and art expression with physical actions even before joining Gutai. After joining Gutai at the request of Yoshihara, they presented action events, installation, light art, interactive artwork, and their works attracted attention as unique, cutting-edge art among Gutai art activities. They also motivated other Gutai members and led the early Gutai art. The Japanese art world in the 1950s was complex with various factors, such as the lack of their own autochthonous modernism or the aspiration for western culture and art. The cutting-edge works in the early period of Gutai are considered the blossoming of artists' spirituality toward culture and art in a new era.
