This study evaluated the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-diabetic activities of normal (Saeilmi) and colored rice cultivars (Boseogheugchal, Hongjinju, Heugjinmi-crossbreed of Boseogheugchal and Hongjinju). Nutritional and functional components of four rice cultivars were analyzed. Extracts were prepared using 50% ethanol and then freeze-dried for functional analyses. Antioxidant effects were determined by evaluating the total polyphenolic contents and DPPH- and ABTS radical scavenging activities. Anti-inflammatory activities were assessed by measuring the concentration of nitric oxide (NO) produced by RAW 264.7 cells, and anti-diabetic activities were investigated by determining α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibitory activities. Crude protein, Ca, anthocyanin, total flavonoid, and total polyphenolic contents were higher in colored rice cultivars than in normal rice, and ‘Heugjinmi’ had the highest values among the colored rice varieties. Colored rice cultivars exhibited better DPPH- and ABTS radical scavenging activities than normal rice. All rice extracts were nontoxic and dose-dependently inhibited NO production in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. ‘Boseogheugchal’ and ‘Heugjinmi’ cultivars showed more inhibitory activity against α-amylase. In addition, colored rice varieties more effectively inhibited α-glucosidase activity than normal rice. Consequently, our results suggest that colored rice, especially the ‘Heugjinmi’ cultivar could be used for health foods due to their higher phytochemical concentrations and functional activities.
인공광 식물공장에서 수경 재배한 삼채 잎과 뿌리의 기능성

본 연구에서는 인공광 식물공장에서 수경 재배한 삼채의 항산화, 면역증진 및 항당뇨 효과를 평가하고, 노지 재배된 삼채의 생리활성과 비교하였다. 인공광원으로 형광등과 LED를 이용하여 재배한 삼채는 잎과 뿌리 부위로 나눠 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 사이클로알린 함량은 노지에서 재배된 삼채에서 많았고 총 페놀 함량은 잎에서 뿌리보다 2배 이상 많았으며, 노지 재배된 삼채 잎과 인공광 재배된 뿌리 추출물에서 총 페놀 함량이 많게 나타났다. DPPH 및 ABTS 라디칼 소거능을 포함한 항산화 활성도 잎에서 뿌리보다 높았고, 형광등 조사한 삼채 잎에서 높은 경향을 보였다. 본 실험에 사용된 잎과 뿌리의 추출물은 RAW264.7 세포에 대해 독성을 나타내지 않았고, 삼채 뿌리에서 잎보다 NO 생성량이 많았다. 또한 α-amylase와 α-glucosidase 저해 활성은 형광등을 조사한 삼채 잎 추출물(100 μg/mL)과 LED를 조사한 삼채 뿌리 추출물에서 가장 높은 경향을 보였다. 따라서 인공광원의 조절로 기능 성분 및 기능성을 개선할 수 있을 것으로 기대되며, 동물실험 등의 확인을 통해 연중 안정적 공급이 가능한 소비자 맞춤형 농산물 생산에 기여할 수 있을 것으로 보인다.
노지 및 인공광 식물공장에서 생산된 삼채 잎의 항산화 및 항염 효과 비교

This study was conducted to evaluate and compare the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of Allium hookeri grown in an outfield and those grown in a plant factory using different lights (FL, fluorescent light; LED-R, red light-emitting diode (LED); LED-B, blue LED; LED-R+B, red+blue LED). The antioxidant effects were determined by measuring the total phenolic content (TPC), DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities, and superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) activities. The anti-inflammatory effects were determined by measuring the inhibition of nitric oxide (NO) production. The results showed that extracts of the leaves of A. hookeri grown in the outfield had the highest TPC value. The A. hookeri leaves grown in the plant factory showed higher antioxidant effects compared to those grown in the outfield as evaluated by the DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities and SOD activity. The highest CAT activity was found in the extract of leaves exposed to LED-R+B lights. The viability of RAW264.7 cells cultured with all the extracts of A. hookeri leaves was over 100% compared to that of the media control, and there was no cytotoxicity observed in any of the extracts. The NO production was significantly reduced in all the groups and the inhibitory effects of the A. hookeri leaves were dose-dependent. These results showed that the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of A. hookeri grown in the plant factory using artificial lights are as good as those of the same plants grown in the outfield. Thus, artificial lights may be used to improve the functional characteristics of A. hookeri.

This study sought to investigate the antioxidant and immune-stimulatory effects of different Curcuma longa (C. longa) extracts based on their color (random, light, medium, dark orange), the soil of cultivation (clay, granite), drying temperature (50∼80℃), and extraction methods (water, ethanol). The antioxidant factors of C. longa were determined by the total phenolic content and DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities. The nitric oxide (NO) production of the macrophage cell line (RAW264.7) and the proliferation of splenocytes were investigated to assess the immune-enhancing effects of C. longa. The antioxidant activity was higher in the dark color and the ethanol extracts. All the types of extracts were nontoxic and enhanced the production of NO in RAW264.7 at less than 250 μg/mL of C. longa. When mouse splenocytes were exposed to various concentrations of hot water or ethanol extracts of C. longa with media, concanavalin A (Con A), lipopolysaccharide (LPS), and cyclophosphamide (CPA), their proliferation increased. Specifically, the 70% ethanol extract of C. longa showed the highest levels of splenocyte proliferation among all samples. These results suggest that the antioxidant and immune-stimulating activities of C. longa were most affected by the extracting solvent rather than color, soil in which it was cultured, and drying temperature. Appropriate extraction methods for C. longa should be researched further to develop good healthy foods with high antioxidant and immune-enhancing activities.
인공광 식물공장에서 재배한 방풍나물(Peucedanum japonicum)의 항산화 및 항염증 효과

본 연구에서는 인공광 시설에서 광원을 달리하여 생산된 방풍나물의 항산화 및 항염 효과를 평가하였고 노지 재배된 방풍나물과 그 생리활성을 비교하였다. DPPH 및 ABTS 라디칼 소거 활성 및 총 폴리페놀은 노지에서 재배된 방풍나물이 인공광 시설에서 재배된 방풍나물보다 높은 항산화 활성을 나타내었고, 인공광에서 재배된 방풍나물 중에서는 BW 광원으로 재배된 방풍나물이 농도 의존적으로 높은 항산화 효과를 보였다. XO 저해 활성은 BW 재배된 방풍나물이 노지 재배 방풍나물보다 우수한 효과를 나타내었다. SOD와 CAT 결과는 BW 및 노지 재배된 방풍나물 모두 무처리 대조군에 비해 농도 의존적인 활성을 보였다. BW 및 노지 재배된 방풍나물은 방풍나물을 처리하지 않은 무처리 대조군에 비해 TNF-α 와 IL-6 사이토카인을 농도 의존적으로 유의하게 감소시켰다. 따라서 인공광 재배된 방풍나물은 대체적으로 노지보다 낮을 수 있지만 항산화 및 항염 효과를 보였고. 앞으로 인공광에서 재배된 작물의 다양한 기능성 소재로서의 연구에 도움이 될 것으로 기대된다. This study investigated the antioxidative and anti-inflammatory activities of Peucedanum japonicum (PJ) grown in outfield and the plant factory with artificial l ights (BRW; Blue (B) + Red (R) + White (W) LED), BW (B+W LED), Fluorescent (FL), BRFL (B + R LED + FL), and WFL (White LED + FL). It was found that the outfield PJ extract had the highest antioxidant levels (DPPH, ABTS, polyphenol). Among the extracts of PJ grown in the plant factory, the BW PJ extract showed the highest antioxidant activity. In xanthine oxidase inhibitory activity, the IC<sub>50</sub> value of the FL PJ extract was 0.75 μg/mL, which was superior to that of the outfield extract (2.35 μg/mL). BW and outfield PJ extracts significantly increased SOD and CAT activities compared to the control without any PJ. The concentrations of TNF-α and IL-6 significantly and dose dependently decreased in PJ treated groups. The results suggest that the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of the PJ grown in the plant factory are good as those of the outfield PJ, and may be a great help in future research on functional activities for the plants grown in the plant factory with artificial lights.
