A variety of cosmetic treatment is performed as the way of the pursuit of beauty according to the change in human`s life. For this reason, it is necessary to conduct the research on the methods to reduce hair damage when hair dye is treated repeatedly or after permanent wave. This study compared the group treated by permanent wave or hair dye with the control group not treated by chemical agents. There was significant chemical damage in hair cuticle damage, but neutral hair dye was found to have much lower damage. For tensile strength, alkaline hair dye was found to have much severer damage than neutral hair dye. For the maintenance of wave efficiency, neutral hair dye was much better than alkaline hair dye. In conclusion, while neutral hair dye was much lower in hair damage than alkaline hair dye, the change in the color of hair was higher in the alkaline hair dye group. Thus, when treating permanent wave and hair dye at the same time, it seems right to select alkaline hair dye only for the color of hair. However, it is recommended to select neutral hair dye to reduce hair damage.

The purpose of this study was to compare the fracture strength of the IPS Empress ceramic crown according to the incisal depth (1.5mm, 2.0mm, 2.5mm) and axial inclination ($4^{\circ}$, $8^{\circ}$, $12^{\circ}$) of the lower central ncisor. After 10 metal dies were made for each group, the IPS Empress ceramic crowns were fabricated and each crown was cemented on each metal die with resin cement. The cemented crowns mounted on the testing jig were inclined 30 degrees and a universal testing machine was used to measure the fracture strength. The results of this study were as follows : The fracture strength of the ceramic crown with 2.0mm depth and $12^{\circ}$ inclination was the highest (648 N). Crowns of 1.5mm depth and $4^{\circ}$ inclination had the lowest strength (482 N). There were no significant differences of the fracture strength by axial inclination in same incisal depth group. The fracture mode of the crowns was similar. Most of fracture lines began at the loading area and extended through proximal surface perpendicular to the margin irrespective of incisal depth. There had correlation between fracture strength and fractured surface area.

Objectives : The purpose of the study is to investigate the influencing factors on the sleep quality in patients with fixed orthodontic appliances. This study intended to find out the improving measures of sleep quality in orthodontic patients. Methods : The subjects were 222 orthodontic patients in Busan. A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by the patients from June to August, 2012. Data were analyzed by SAS version 9.20 including frequency analysis, ANOVA, t-test, multiple regression analysis, and Duncan post-hoc test. Results : The quality of sleep in the patients at the initial stage of orthodontic treatment was influenced by ceramic orthodontic appliances, tooth extraction, Bite adjustment, disturbed sleep habits, and temporomandibular joint pain. Conclusions : The most important factors influencing on the sleep quality were the anxiety toward the treatment and tooth extraction at the initial stage of treatment. A more careful conversation and collaboration are needed in the orthodontic treatment.
천연칼슘소재로서 개조개( Saxidomus purpuratus)와 바지락( Ruditapes philippinarum) 패각 및 소성분말의 특성

Shell waste from the butter clam Saxidomus purpuratus and littleneck clam Ruditapes philippinarum is a large byproduct of shellfish aquaculture, and it is desirable to convert it into value-added products for industrial applications. In this study, calcium carbonate (CaC) polymorphs from butter clam (BCSP) and littleneck clam (LCSP) shell powders and commercial CaC were characterized using Fourier transmission infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results revealed that the optimal calcination conditions to eliminate organic substances and improve solubility for both BCSP and LCSP were 800°C for 8 h in an electrical furnace. Calcination improved the white index of the butter clam (BCCP) and littleneck clam (LCCP) calcined powder compared with shell powders. The calcium content in BCCP (51.1%) was higher than that of LCCP (44.9%) or commercial calcium oxide (CaO, 44.7%). The XRD patterns of BCCP and LCCP were similar to that of CaO. Cubic-like crystals of CaC and irregular crystals of BCCP and LCCP were observed by SEM. The FT-IR and XRD analyses revealed the presence of calcite and aragonite in the BCSP and aragonite in the LCSP, whereas the CaC contained calcite. These results indicate that butter and littleneck clam shells are potential biomass resources for calcium carbonate and calcium oxide.
반응표면분석법을 이용한 개조개(Saxidomus purpuratus) 패각분말로부터 가용성 초산칼슘의 제조 및 특성

패류의 주된 가공부산물인 패각은 주성분이 불용성의 탄산칼슘으로, 이를 천연 칼슘소재로 활용하기 위해 개조개 패각의 소성분말로부터 가용성 개선 유기산(초산) 처리 칼슘 제조의 최적조건을 구명하고자 하였다. 반응표면분석법을 이용하여 제조한 11개의 시제 초산칼슘의 pH, 용해도 및 수율로부터 구명한 최적 반응조건은 초산 2.70 M 비율에 대하여 개조개 소성분말 1.05 M이었으며, 이의 최적조건을 적용한 개조개 초산칼슘의 실측 pH, 용해도 및 수율은 각각 pH7.04, 93.0% 및 267.5%로 예측치와 유사한 결과를 얻었다. 시제 초산칼슘의 완충능은 pH 4.88~4.92 범위였으며, 칼슘함량과 용해도는 20.7~22.8 g/100 g과 97.2~99.6%였다. FT-IR, XRD 분석 및 FESEM을 통한 미세구조는 비정형결정으로 calcium acetate monohydrate로 확인되었다. 개조개 패각은 칼슘소재뿐만 아니라 가용성을 높인 유기산 칼슘으로 칼슘강화용 식품소재로의 이용 가능성이 높을 것으로 판단되었다. For effective utilization of butter clam shell as a natural calcium resource, the optimal conditions for preparation of calcium acetate (BCCA) with high solubility were determined using response surface methodology (RSM). The polynomial models developed by RSM for pH, solubility, and yield were highly effective in describing the relationships between factors (P<0.05). Increased molar ratio of calcined powder (BCCP) from butter clam shell led to reduction of solubility, yield, color values, and overall quality. Critical values of multiple response optimization to independent variables were 2.70 M and 1.05 M for acetic acid and BCCP, respectively. The actual values (pH 7.04, 93.0% for solubility and 267.5% for yield) under optimization conditions were similar to predicted values. White indices of BCCAs were in the range of 89.7∼93.3. Therefore, color value was improved by calcination and organic acid treatment. Buffering capacity of BCCAs was strong at pH 4.88 to 4.92 upon addition of ∼2 mL of 1 N HCl. Calcium content and solubility of BCCAs were 20.7∼22.8 g/100 g and 97.2∼99.6%, respectively. The patterns of fourier transform infrared spectrometer and X-ray diffractometer analyses from BCCA were identified as calcium acetate monohydrate, and microstructure by field emission scanning electron microscope showed an irregular form.
