Transfer experiment of drug resistance and citrate utilizing ability were performed to show the relationship between drug resistance and citrate utilizing ability of 76 Citrate-Utilizing variants of Escherichia coli(Cit ^+E. coli) isolated from cattle. The results obtained were summarized as follows; 1. Of seventy-six Cit ^+E. coli, 36(47.4%) strains transfered their drug resistance to the E. coli ML 1410 by mating. 2. Tetracycline(TC) resistance determinants and citrate utilizing ability were transmitted in the recipient strains selected for TC, but it can be seen the segregation of streptomycin(SM) resistance determinants and citrate utilizing character in 9 recipient strains selected for SM. 3. Of seventeen TC resistance Cit ^+E coli, 10 strains transfered citrate utilizing character, alone. 4. The transmission of the ability to utilize citrate on Simmons citrate agar at 37℃, was demonstrated 52(68.2%) out of the 76 Cit ^+E. coli.

The characters of mordern buildings such as higher airtightness, frequent usage of artificial materials and artificial air conditionings provide suitable conditions for flourishing of microorganisms, especially fungi. Indoor fungi could produce unacceptable musty smells and cause structural damage of building. But the more serious effects are the threatening on human health. They could provoke several allergic diseases, sick building syndrome, organic dust toxic syndrome, and could be the important causative agents of infectious diseases in the immunocompromized host. This paper review the characters, physiology, epidemiology and isolation techniques of the indoor fungi to provide the basic ideas to control the indoor fungi.

To elucidate the distribution of asymptomatic carrier state of dermatophytes in laboratory animals in Korea, a total of 393 albino rats, 285 albino mice, 238 guinea pigs and 72 golden hamsters, randomly selected from 6 research institutes and 2 breeding farms located in Chungnam and Kyunggi province, were examined. The results obtained were summarized as follows. Dermatophytes were isolated from 3 of 8(37.5%) herds, and from 393 albino rats, 94(23.9%) were culture positive, but from 285 albino mice, 238 guinea pigs and 72 golden hamsters, no dermatophytes were isolated. Among 94 strains isolated from albino rats, 93 strains were Trichophyton mentagrophytes, 1 strain was Microsporum gypseum. From 70 albino rats below 2 months old, 2(2.94) were culture positive, but from 323 albino rats over 2 months old, 91(28.2%) were culture positive.

Studies on the food-safety of pheasant and mallard, which belong to wild fowl as new meat resources, were carried out. The results were summarized as follows ; 1. Food poisoning bacteria including Salmonella spp. was not detected from the inspections of small intestine, cecum. and rectum. 2. Parasite inspection tests on blood, feces, digestive organ, and thoracic organs were negative. 3. Antibiotic residues from the carcass muscle by simplified disk methods were not. detected. 4. Seven different pesticide residue tests, such as DDT and BHT, on the muscle and liver were negative. 5. Four different kinds of toxic heavy metals such as Cd were much lower than the permissible concentration. Studies on the food safety tests and inspections from the pheasant and mallard were revealed that from taking this new food resources, the toxicities would be very low for the human health by the direct influences.

This paper deals with the isolation of citrate-utilizing variants of Escherichia coli ($Cit^+$ E. coli) from the animals, their biochemical reactivity and antibiotic susceptibility, and whether the citrate utilizing ability is transmissible. One hundred arid twenty-three isolates of $Cit^+$ E. coli were obtained from cattle and pigs. but from other animals, no isolates were obtaied. Antibiotic susceptibility testing of $Cit^+$ E. coli was performed by the agar dilution method, using the following 9 antibiotics, chloramphenicol(CP), tetracycline(TC), streptomycine(SM), kanamycin(KM), colistin(CL), gentamicin(GM), cephaloridine(CR), aminobenzycillin and nalidixic acid(NA). All the variants tested were susceptible to KM, CL, GM, CR and NA. Of all the variants, 80(65%) were resistant to the drugs tested and resistance to TC and SM was most frequent. The transmission of the ability to utilize citrate on Simmons citrate agar at $37^{\circ}C$ was demonstrated in 78(67.8%) out of the 115 $Cit^+$ E. coli. There were no significant difference in the transfer rates of citrate utilizing ability between resistant and susceptible variants to above 9 drugs. Of 123 isolates, 8 were lost their citrate utilizing ability, spontaneously.

This study was performed to examine the distribution of carrier state of dermatophytes in dogs and cats in Korea and the pathogenicity of the isolates. During the period from November, 1984 to October, 1985, 563 mongrel dogs and 458 cats on the animal mar
