This study examines philosophy of flowing style, the unique thinking of oriental martial arts, found in confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism. The philosophy of flowing style lies in focusing on adapting to the other party's attack rather than on fighting against in terms of technique or strength as shown in the confucianism books like 'Sagijongin(捨己從人)' and Kunjamusojaeng(君子無所爭); in Taoism books like Sangseonyaksu(上善若水); and in Buddhism articles such as Pijaengbuljaeng(避爭不爭), Beomibulon(犯而不慍) and Akraeseondae(惡來善待) from Buddhism sacred book named Dhammapada. It is found this philosophy has been employed as central principles and thoughts by Korea's Tae kkyeon, Hap ki do, and Kook sul; Chinese national martial arts and Palguaezhang; and Japan's Judo and Ai ki do. Flowing style is principle of philosophy dimensions and way of life in practicing martial arts. In today's society where expansion of cyber world results in more individualistic life style tendency, this philosophy of flowing style may become alternatives or means for people to be closer to each other.

Growing(94∼156g) and adult(340∼401g) rats of Sprague-Dowley strain were used as experimental subject to investigate the effect of Korean red ginseng ingredients on survival period in during the starvation. The body weight gained, feed intake, feed efficiency, protein efficiency and body weight decrease rate after starvation in growing rats given 1% Korean red ginseng extract solution showed no significant change during the restricted supply of diet(lhr7day), and the survival period showed the tendency to decrease by severe restricted supply of diet There was no significant differences in body weight decrease and the survival period(day) after starvation in adult rats group given 1% Korean red ginseng extract Body weight decrease and survival period in growing and adult rats group endowed with 1% Korean red ginseng extract containing 5% alcohol indicated no significant change than that of the control(5% alcohol solution) group.

This study was devised to observe the inhibitory effects of 2 kinds of ethanol treatment precipitate (crude acidic polysaccharide) from Korean red ginseng and Chinese red ginseng on a lipolytic action of Toxohormone-L which has been known as lipolytic and anorexigenic factors. Toxohormone-L was obtaind by partial purification of the ascites fluid from mice which had been inoculated with sarcoma-180. The yields of crude acidic polysaccharide from Korean red ginseng and Chinese red ginseng were 63.5 and 61,3% respectively, indicating that the Korean red ginseng was the higher. In vitro. the total inhibitory activity per gram of ginseng material were 4,928 and 4,254 unit respectively, also indicating that the Korean red gingeng was the better effective in the inhibition of the lipolysis. In vivo, once in 3 days injection of the red ginseng polysaccharide extracts(40㎎/㎖ in saline soln.) with 0.64 g/㎏ of body weight to the mice bearing sarcoma-180 was not effective against the extension of their life span. On the contrary, the life span of the mice were rather shotened by the injection of Chinese red ginseng polysaccharide extract, as compared to that of control. But body weight gain of sarcoma-180 bearing mice decreased significantly by administration of Korean red ginseng polysaccharide extract compared to those of the control or other red ginseng treated group (P<0.05).

Acupuncture, an important branch of oriental medicine, has been practiced for many centuries and has been proved to be an effective treatment for all sorts of disease. However, the exact mechanism on effects of acupuncture was uncertain. Recently investigation for the mechanism of acupuncture has concentrated to human and animals. So, This study was to determine effects of ST-36 acupuncture stimulation on blood component in growing rats. For this study, 24 male Sprague-Dawley rats weighting 159?13g were randomly assigned into three groups; A4 group, A10 group, and control group. In A4 group, four times acupuncture were performed at both ST-36 every other days and in A10 group, ten times acupuncture. The results obtained were as follows; 1. Total protein level was significantly increased, particularly in A10 group; albumin level was also significantly increased. 2. Serum glucose level was significantly increased. 3. Triglyceride level was significantly increased in A4 group; phospholipid level had no changes; free fatty acid level was significantly decreased particularly in A10 group. 4. Total cholesterol level was rarely affected by acupuncture: HDL-C and LDL-C levels were affected by the number of times of acupuncture, that is, HDL-C levels were increased, and LDL-C level decreased in A4 group, while HDL-C level decreased and LDL-C level increased in A10 group. 5. Serum amylase activity was not significantly changed.
