The tradition of vocal music made from epic stories is commonly found in both illiterate and literate societies in the world. However. the epic musics of the literate societies have been widely favoured by the academics for their interesting topics. One of them. p ansori (representative Korean epic song) has largely been attracted by a number of researchers and been studied in terms of a variety of angles and approaches. This paper is not based on a new research on p ansori. but it attempts to reconsider its values at the wider range of contexts with which a comparison can be made. I have chosen four representative epic musics such as Punlaku of Choruli (songs and stories performed during Japanese puppet play). Wayang (Indonesian dance and drama), Gusle music (Yugoslavian epic music with the accompaniment of the gusle) and the music performed by Jali (Gambian secular musician) in order to understand their individual characteristics of the genre. The approach is based on the observation of their performances rather than looking in their historical sources. My findings derive from the fact that there are differences and similarities among these individual narrative musics in a number of aspects. For instance, the p ansori itself is considered as uniquely Korean and traditional. but it also possesses universal qualities which are widely shared with the same genres. The focus of the studies of p ansori on its unique aspects is certainly valuable. However, at the same time. I would argue that it needs a redefinition in terms of universality, thus identifying p ansori in the world perspectives of epic songs.
공액리놀레산 생성 Lactobacillus plantarum 선발 및 이를 이용한 콩-분말 두유에서 공액리놀레산 생산

본 연구에서는 발효식품으로부터 16종의 공액리놀레산(CLA) 생성 젖산균을 분리하였다. 이들 균주 중, S48 및 P1201 균주는 다른 젖산균들보다 더 높은 CLA를 생성하였다. 두 균주는 형태학적, 생리학적, 화학적 및 분자유전학적 특징에 따라 Lactobacillus plantarum로 동정하였다. pH 2.0 인공위액산에서 4시간 배양 후 이들 균주의 생존율은 각각 59.57% 및 6.22%을 나타내었다. 이들 균주는 $37^{\circ}C$에서 48시간 동안 상이한 자유 리놀레산 함량이 함유되어 있는 8% 탈지분유 배지에서 cis-9, trans-11 및 trans-10, cis-12 CLA 이성체가 생성되었고, 두 CLA 이성체는 48시간 배양 동안 지속적으로 증가하였다. 발효 48시간 후, 증자콩-분말 두유의 CLA 함량은 생콩 및 볶음콩-분말 두유에서 보다 높은 생성능을 보였다. 특히, 증자콩-분말 두유의 CLA 함량은 각각 S48 및 P1201 균주에서 $183.57{\mu}g/ml$ 및 $198.72{\mu}g/ml$ 생성되었다. In this study, a total of 16 conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) producing lactic acid bacteria (LAB) were isolated from fermented foods. Among those strains, the S48 and P1201 strains were capable of producing higher CLA contents than other LABs. The two strains were classified as Lactobacillus plantarum based on morphological, physiological, chemotaxonomic, and molecular-genetic properties. The survival rates of these strain appeared to be 59.57% and 62.22% under artificial gastric conditions after 4 h at pH 2.5, respectively. These strains produced the cis-9, trans-11, and trans-10, cis-12 CLA isomers from 8% skim milk medium supplemented with the different free LA concentration at $37^{\circ}C$ for 48 h and the production of two CLA isomers constantly increased in the growth until 48 h of incubation. After 48 h of fermentation, the levels of CLA appeared highest in steamed soy-powder milk than fresh and roasted soy-powder milks. In particular, the CLA contents were produced $183.57{\mu}g/ml$ and $198.72{\mu}g/ml$ from steamed soy-powder milk after fermentation (48 h) with S48 and P1201 strains, respectively.

쑥갓(Chrysanthemum coronarium L.) 잎으로부터 생리활성 성분을 가진 3풀의 화합물을 분리하여 다양한 spectral data를 종합한 결과, 화합물 1, 2, 3은 terpenoid의 일종인 monoterpene lactone, sesequiterpene lactone과 sterol 화합물인 것으로 밝혀졌으며, 이들은 각각 dihydrotulipinolide, loliolide, $5{\alpha},8{\alpha}-peroxyergosterol$로 동정되었다. 이 화합물들은 쑥갓에서 처음으로 분리-보고되는 화합물이다. 분리된 화합물들의 세포독성을 측정한 결과, 화합물 3은 3종의 인체암 세포주에 대하여 비교적 강한 활성을 나타내었다. Three terpenoids were isolated from the leaves of Chrysanthemum coronarium L. by silica gel chromatography and recrystalization. The structure of compounds 1, 2, and 3, using various spectroscopic data, were identified as to be terpenoid derivatives of dihydrotulipinolide, loliolide, and $5{\alpha},8{\alpha}-peroxyergosterol$, respectively. The presence of these 3 is the first time reported in this plant. The cytotoxic activity of $5{\alpha},8{\alpha}-peroxyergosterol$ showed strong activities against human cancer cell lines such as A549, PC-3, and HCT 116.

Two isoquinolines and one quinolone were isolated from the stem bark of Pellodendron amurense Rupr. (Rutaceae). Two isoquinolines were elucidated as thalifoline (2) and pharmacological active berberine (3) has been blocking the release of $Ca^{2+}$ from internal stores. One quinolone was identified as N-methylatanine (1). This is the first report on the isolation of N-methylatanine (1) and thalifoline (2) from this plant. 운향과(Rutaceae)인 황백나무(Phellodendron nmurense Rupr.)의 줄기 점 질에서 2종의 isoquinoline 화합물과 1종의 quinolone 화합물을 분리하였다. Isoquinoline 화합물은 thalifoline (2)과 칼슘 방출을 저해하여 혈압조절에 관여하는 berberine (3)으로 구조동정 되었다. 또한 quinolone 화합물은 N-methylatanine (1)로 구조동정 되었다. 이들의 화합물 중에서 N-methylatanine (1)과 thalifoline (2)는 황백나무에서 처음으로 분리하였다.
발아 및 볶음조건별 녹두가루의 품질 및 이화학 특성 변화

The change of quality and physicochemical characteristics of mung-bean flours after germination and roasting treatment were evaluated. The moisture content of the roasted mung-bean flours decreased significantly according to the roasting temperatures and times, and the crude ash, protein and fat contents increased. The lightness of the roasted mung-bean flours significantly decreased, and the redness and yellowness increased. The water binding capacity of the roasted mung-bean flours without and with germination were 151.71 and 192.77% at $240^{\circ}C$ for 20 min, respectively. The water solubility index and swelling power decreased with an increase in roasting temperatures and times. The phenolic compounds and radical scavenging activity of the roasted mung-bean flours increased with an increase in the roasting temperatures and times. The total polyphenol contents of the roasted mung-bean flours without and with germination were 4.81~7.71 and 4.22~5.63 mg GAE/g, and the total flavonoid contents were 2.46~3.05 and 2.45~2.87 mg CE/g, respectively. The DPPH radical scavenging activity of the roasted mung-bean flours, without and with germination, were 106.83~376.08 and 174.41~346.70 mg TE/100 g, and the ABTS radical scavenging activity was 251.67~534.31 and 274.39~430.02 mg TE/100 g, respectively. As a result, it is necessary to set quality standards for each application considering the quality and antioxidant properties of the roasted mung-bean flours.

To begin with, this study identified and reviewed the proximate compositions, quality and physicochemical characteristics of three Korean cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L. Walp.) cultivars grown in two different seedling periods. The proximate compositions of the cowpea showed significant differences according to three cultivars (Seowon, Yeonboon and Okdang) and two different seeding periods (5 June and 5 July). Through this lens, the lightness, redness and yellowness of the cowpea cultivars increased slightly during the 5 July cultivation compared to the 5 June cultivation. This brings us to understand that the water binding capacity, water solubility index, and swelling power were significantly different among the cultivars. In this case, the water binding capacity of the cowpea was 108.87~143.19%, and decreased during the 5 July cultivation compared to the 5 June cultivation. As shown, the total polyphenol and flavonoid contents of cowpea showed significant difference according to cultivars. In this case, the total polyphenol content of 5 June and 5 July cultivation on the Seowon 4.17 and 4.12 mg GAE/g, respectively. In these terms, the DPPH radical scavenging activity of cowpea showed a significant difference according to the cultivars, and the Yeonboon and Okdang increased slightly during 5 July cultivation. The ABTS radical scavenging activity of the cowpea showed significant difference according to the cultivars, and all cultivars decreased slightly during the 5 July cultivation. In other words, the phenol contents and radical scavenging activity differ measurable depending on the cultivars and seeding periods. Therefore, it is necessary to study the proper cultivar and seeding time considering the environment of the applicable cultivation area.
Antitumor Sterol Isolated from the Fruiting Body of Pleurotus eryngii

새송이버섯으로부터 활성추적법으로 항암활성이 있는 물질인 에르고스테롤 프록사이드를 분리하였다. 이 스테롤의 구조는 분광법과 NMR법으로 확인하였으며 분자식은 $C_{28}H_{44}O_3$이었다. 폐암과 난소암에 $IC_{50}$값은 각각 $7{\mu}M$과 $14{\mu}M$이었다. DNA단편화 실험에서 이 화합물은 암세포의 chromosimal DNA 를 사닥다리모양으로 분해하였고, 세포 분열주기의 억제실험에서 G1단계를 억제함을 관찰하였다. Activity-guided fractionations led to the isolation of antitumor compound, ergosterol peroxide ($5{\alpha},\;8{\alpha}-epideoxy-24(R)-methylcholesta-6,\;22-dien-3{\beta}-ol$) from the fruiting body of Pleuratus eryngii that was cultivated artificially. This sterol structure was established by using spectroscopic methods ($^1H\;and\;^{13}C$ nuclear magnetic resonance and high resolution mass spectra). The purified compound showed a molecular formular of $C_{28}H_{44}O_3$ displaying characteristic features of epidioxy sterols. The 50% inhibitory concentrations ($IC_{50}$) of ergosterol peroxide against human lung cancer cell line (A549) and human ovarian cell line (SK-OV3) were $7{\mu}M\;and\;14{\mu}M$, respectively. In the DNA fragmentation assay, the compound showed the programmed cell death causing the chromosomal DNA fragmentation. It reveals that ergosterol peroxide arrests G1 phase of the cell division cycle.
