Ginsenosides: the need to move forward from bench to clinical trials

Panax ginseng, known as Koran ginseng, one of the most commonly used traditional plants, has beendemonstrated to show a wide range of pharmacological applications. Ginsenosides are the major activeingredients found in ginseng and are responsible for the biological and pharmacological activities, suchas antioxidation, antiinflammation, vasorelaxation, and anticancer actions. Existing studies have mostlyfocused on identifying and purifying single ginsenosides and investigating pharmacological activities andmolecular mechanisms in cells and animal models. However, ginsenoside studies based on clinical trialshave been very limited. Therefore, this review aimed to discuss the currently available clinical trials onginsenosides and provide insights and future directions for developing ginsenosides as efficacious andsafe drugs for human disease.

안전 운전을 위한 뇌파 감지를 통한 운전 습관 관리시스템의 설계 및 구현

뇌파 연구의 증진과 인터페이스 기술의 발전으로 뇌-컴퓨터 인터페이스 기술 또한 발전을 거듭하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 뇌-컴퓨터 인터페이스를 교통수단에 접목하여 운전 습관을 관리하는 시스템을 제안한다. 제안한 시스템은 뇌파 자극을 측정하는 뇌파 측정부와 전달된 뇌파정보를 분석하는 뇌파 분석부, 교통수단의 속도를 제어하는 속도 제어부, 운전자의 상태정보를 저장하는 메모리부, 경고를 발생하는 경보부로 구성되어 있다. 제안된 시스템을 통해 졸음 운전 방지 및 사용자의 운전 습관을 개선하는데 도움을 주며, 교통사고 예방에 도움이 된다. Brain computer interface(BCI) technology has been continuously developed due to the continuous development of interface technology and the promotion of brain wave research. In this paper, we propose a driving habit management system by adopting BCI to transportation. The proposed system consists of the electroencephalogram(EEG) measuring unit, the EEG analysis unit, the memory section for storing the state information of drivers, the speed controller unit and the alarming section for generating warnings. Our proposed system can reduce the drowsy driving, improve the driving habits of users and help to prevent traffic accidents.

집단모래놀이치료가 아동의 불안감소와 자아탄력성 증진에 미치는 영향

This study was held to inquire the impact of children’s anxiety reduction and ego-resilience enhancement of Group Sandplay Therapy. The Group Sandplay Therapy was consisted a touching sand, making personal tray and a making tray in group. The constructions of the group were three groups in total; The male and female mixed group with four children, the female(same sex group), the male(same sex group) in fourth grade. To study the anxiety and ego-resilience, used the Revised Children’s Manifest Anxiety Scale(RCMAS) and Korean Personality Rating for Children(KPRC) as a research tool. Analyzed the conditions of transitions by comparing negative and positive themes of sand tray treatment. The result of Group Sandplay Therapy had positive effections of reducing children's anxiety and improving children ego-resilence. By looking into the differences in the analysis of mixed sex and same sex group during the session, the male and female mixed group indicates more of negative factors than positive factors. They also appeared positive factors constantly, but it has not increased. On the contrary, more negative elements appear on the same sex group at the initial session. However as the session go along, the negative elements reduced and the positive element of the group appears more. When the group consisted with the same gender, children had a higher therapeutic effect. 본 연구는 아동의 불안감소와 자아탄력성 증진을 위하여 집단모래놀이치료를 구성하여 실시한 후 그 효과성을 검증한 것이다. 집단모래놀이치료는 모래만지기, 개인상자꾸미기, 집단상자꾸미기 전략을 중심으로 구성되었으며, 본 연구의 대상은 4학년 아동 남아 6명, 여아 6명씩 12명으로 남녀 혼성집단 1집단, 남아 동성집단 1집단, 여아 동성집단 1집단으로 구성되었다. 레이놀즈불안척도(RCMAS)와 한국아동인성검사(KPRC)로 불안과 자아탄력성의 사전․사후 변화를 측정하였으며, 치료과정에서 나타난 모래상자를 긍정적 주제와 부정적 주제로 구분하여 변화양상을 분석하였다. 집단모래놀이치료의 결과, 집단모래놀이치료가 아동의 불안을 감소시키고 자아탄력성 증진에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다는 결과가 나왔다. 상자 주제에 따른 분석을 실시한 결과 혼성집단과 동성집단 간의 차이가 나타났는데, 혼성집단의 경우에는 회기 초반부터 부정적 요소가 긍정적 요소에 비해 많이 나타나고 있으며, 회기가 진행되어도 큰 변화는 나타나지 않는 모습이었다. 반면 동성집단의 경우에는 초기에 부정적인 주제가 많이 등장했지만 치료가 진행되어 갈수록 모래놀이상자에서 긍정적인 주제가 더 많이 나타났으며, 부정적인 주제가 줄어든 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 결과는 집단모래놀이치료에서 동성집단일 경우 치유가 활발히 이루어진다는 결과를 나타낸다.

Sumoylation of the histone demethylase KDM4A is required for binding to tumor suppressor p53 in HCT116 colon cancer cell lines

The histone demethylase lysine-specific demethylase 4A (KDM4A/Jmjd2A) has diverse functions, including involvement in gene regulation and cell cycle, and plays an oncogenic role in cancer cells. The modulation of KDM4A through post-translational modifications remains unclear. Here, we show that small ubiquitin-like modifier (SUMO) 1-mediated modification of KDM4A was required for interaction with tumor suppressor p53. Our data revealed that KDM4A is mainly sumoylated at lysine residue 471. However, the SUMO modification resulted in little change in subcellular localization, demethylase activity, or protein stability of KMD4A. Intriguingly, coimmunoprecipitation data revealed that sumoylation-defective mutants of KDM4A had a lower binding ability with p53 compared to that of wild-type KDM4A, suggesting a positive role for sumoylation in the interaction between KDM4A and p53. Together, these data suggest that KDM4A is post-translationally modified by SUMO, and this sumoylation may be a novel regulatory switch for controlling the interplay between KDM4A and p53.

IPD 계약은 IPD 프로젝트의 필수조건인가 - 국내외 사례조사를 통하여 -

Integrated Project Delivery는 기존 발주방식 (설계시공일괄 발주방식, 설계시공분리 발주방식, 건설사업관리 발주방식)의 대안으로 제시되고 있다. 다수의 국외 IPD 관련 연구들은 IPD의 계약적 측면뿐만 아니라 IPD의 업무수행방식 측면에서도 IPD 연구에 접근하고 있다. 그러나 대부분의 국내 IPD 관련 연구들은 IPD의 계약적 특성에만 초점을 맞추고 이것이 심각한 문제인 것으로 간주하고 있는데, 현재 국내 규제와 법적 한계로 인해 다자간 계약이 불가능하므로 이런 국내 건설환경에서는 IPD가 도입되기 어렵다는 주장이다. 하지만 본 연구는 국내 시스템이 변화하길 기다리는 대신 IPD가 업무수행방식 측면에서 도입될 수 있음을 보여주고자 한다. 따라서 이 연구의 목표는 IPD 계약이 체결되지 않은 프로젝트들의 성과와 IPD 계약이 체결된 프로젝트의 성과를 비교함으로써 IPD 계약적 특성이 IPD를 적용한 프로젝트에서 필수조건이 아님을 보이는 것이다. 본 연구는 미국 5개 IPD 사례와 국내 1개 프로젝트의 참여자들로부터 설문데이터를 확보하여 사례조사를 두 단계로 수행하였다. 첫째로 IPD 계약을 체결하지 않은 미국 4개 사례의 IPD 특징요소 적용여부와 그에 따른 성과를 비교하고, 둘째로 IPD 계약을 체결한 미국 사례와 IPD 특징요소를 프로젝트에 도입한 국내 사례에 대해서 첫 번째 단계와 같은 내용을 비교하였다. 연구의 결과로 IPD 특성의 자유롭고 유연한 도입을 통해 국내 건설의 생산성 도모와 협업환경 조성을 통한 건설 환경의 개선 및 발주자와의 신뢰관계 구축에 도움을 줄 것으로 기대한다. Integrated project delivery (IPD) is suggested as an alternative to traditional delivery methods such as design-build (DB), design-bid-build (DBB), and construction management at risk (CMR). Many foreign research studies have approached IPD not only in the contractual aspect but also the work implementation method aspect. However, most research projects in Korea have focused on the contractual aspect of IPD for asserting that the characteristics are the critical matter. The Korean institutional and legal system does not permit the multi-party agreement; therefore, it is difficult to adopt IPD in Korea's construction industry. The researchers do not wait the system to be changed, but we do identify the possibility of adopting IPD in Korea in the perspective of work implementation method, except the contractual characteristics. Thus, the goal of this research is to identify one project that does not include IPD agreement but utilizes other IPD characteristics whose contractual results have similar performance to those that utilize all characteristics of IPD including agreement. This research is expected to enhance performance of the construction project in a Korean construction environment by embracing IPD characteristics as overcoming limits and bounds of the traditional delivery method.

Epigenetic Silencing of TNFSF7 (CD70) by DNA Methylation during Progression to Breast Cancer

To escape the immune system, tumor cells may remove surface molecules such as the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) and co-stimulatory molecules, which are essential for recognition by lymphocytes. Down-regulation of the co-stimulatory molecules CD70 (TNFSF7) and CD80 may contribute to tumor cell survival; however, the mechanism of down-regulation of the TNFSF7 gene during tumorigenesis is poorly understood. Here we present evi-dence indicating that TNFSF7 gene expression is epigen-etically down-regulated via DNA hypermethylation within its promoter region during progression in breast cancer cells in the isogenic MCF10 model. Bisulfite sequencing revealed that the CpG pairs at the proximal region of the TNFSF7 promoter are heavily methylated during progres-sion of breast cancer cells but that methylation of the more distal sequences was not changed considerably. Thus, this epigenetic silencing of the TNFSF7 gene via hyper-methylation of its proximal region may allow the benign and invasive MCF10 variants to escape immune surveil-lance.
