This study is performed to develop a rational damage assessment technique using neural networks combined with sensitivity analysis method, which can be applied to the large complex structural systems more efficiently. The objective of the study is to propose an efficient algorithm to design the optimum monitoring and damage assessment system with the limited budget. The most important structural elements are selected through the sensitivity analysis on the system failure probability, that is, the structural elements, whose damages increase the system failure probability most sensitively, are selected. The optimum placement of the monitoring sensors for determining the dynamic modal parameters is decided by evaluating the damage estimation errors of the trained neural network system due to the deletion of a specific monitoring position and selecting the monitoring positions that cause the large estimation errors compared with other positions. The validity and applicability of the developed techniques are demonstrated on truss' structure, and it is proven that the proposed technique is applicable to damage assessment with a reasonable accuracy.

As the volume of traffic in southern part of the republic of Korea grew, expansion of transportation was required. In that purpose, the railway between Samnangjin and Gwangyang is being extended to a double-track line. This construction includes Nakdong bridge located across Nakdong river. This truss bridge is constructed in incremental launching method (ILM) and composed of two sections, straight line and curved one. Bridge construction in the method goes with the shift of roller supports which results in the change of structural system. To accomplish safe construction, the measurement during the whole launching stages. The locations of member in severe condition and the corresponding response values were estimated through the preliminary construction stage analysis. Based on the analysis, the measurement during construction was planned. Several sensors and measurement devices were installed at appropriate locations. During the whole launching stages, the measurement was performed and the corresponding data were monitored and stored in real time. The comparison of the responses from the analysis and the measurement showed no indication of yielding of the structural members. Consequently, the construction of Nakdong bridge was concluded to be relevant.

It is necessary to develop future-oriented and innovative energy technology in architecture area in order to handle the crisis about energy-environment problem. So this architecture area has been spurring the development of new technology for energy saving and alternative energy use. Double skin window system, an active covering to repond to the exterior change of the environment, is a skill that can reduce the indoor cooling and heating load and realize the environmental architecture. This study works out U-value of windows using the window-simulation program with the development and study of the double skin. And the effect of the double skin insulation on the effeciency rating has been analyzed, applying to the certification system of the building energy effeciency rating which has implemented.
