Listeria monocytogenes has been recognized as a pathogen in elderly and immunecompromised hosts with malignancies, alcohol abuse, diabetes mellitus, transplanted organs, liver cirrhosis, renal failure, or acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). In adults, it usually presents as neuromeningeal infection, such as meningitis,meningoencephalitis,or encephalitis, or as primary bacteremia. Involvement of the liver with L. monocytogenes is uncommon. We report on a case of multiple liver abscesses and bacteremia associated with L. monocytogenes in a 67-year-old diabetic female with concomitant active multidrug-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis. Blood cultures were positive for L. monocytogenes . In patients with liver abscess with advanced age or who are immune-compromised, including those with diabetes,clinicians should consider Listeria infection as a differential diagnosis.

Chemotherapy for Small Cell Carcinoma of Gallbladder: A Case Report

Small cell carcinoma (SCC) of the gallbladder is a rare disease. It is an aggressive tumor that tends to metastasis early and is associated with poor prognosis. Median overall survival is reported to be approximately 13 months. Metastatic disease has a worse prognosis, and median overall survival is reported to be approximately 4 months. A 65-year-old male patient was diagnosed with the SCC of the gallbladder and was treated with cisplatin/etoposide chemotherapy followed by radiation therapy. Here, we describe the case of the SCC of the gallbladder who survived more than 3 years followed by the review of the literatures on this disease.

The relationship between fishing characteristics of Pacific bluefin tuna (Thunnus orientalis) and ocean conditions around Jeju Island

Pacific bluefin tuna (Thunnus orientalis) is one of the commercially important species in Korea as well as other countries of the North Pacific. Korean offshore large purse seine fisheries targeting small pelagic fishes such as chub mackerel have caught T. orientalis temporarily in the east of Jeju Island. The catch of T. orientalis in March through June occupied approximately 60% of the total. The monthly catch around Jeju Island from 2004 to 2013 showed a negative correlation (r = − 0.755, p < 0.01) with the seawater temperature at 50 m and had a significant positive correlation (r = 0.856, p < 0.01) with the Pacific Decadal Oscillation Index (PDOI). The highest catch and catch per unit effort (CPUE) of T. orientalis around Jeju Island occurred either when the seawater temperature ranged between 15 and 16 °C at 50 m or when the catch was taken near the frontal area where two water masses from offshore and coastal areas collide. The length of T. orientalis caught around Jeju Island from 2004 to 2013 ranged from 19 to 193 cm in fork length (FL). The time series of the monthly mean FL of T. orientalis had a negative correlation (r = − 0.592, p < 0.01) with the seawater temperature at 50 m and had a significant positive correlation (r = 0.668, p < 0.05) with PDOI.

Thrombophlebitis of the portal venous system (PVS) with superimposed bacterial infection (septic pylephlebitis) is an extremely rare complication of Crohn`s disease (CD), and therefore diagnosis of septic pylephlebitis is difficult without high clinical suspicion. A 16-year old male patient who was diagnosed with CD 3 months earlier was admitted with recurrent fever and abdominal pain. CD activity had been well controlled with conventional medical treatment during a follow-up period. Abdominal contrast- enhanced computed tomography showed massive thrombosis in the PVS without evidence of intra-abdominal infection, and blood cultures were positive for Streptococcus viridians. There was no evidence of deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary thromboembolism, and all laboratory tests for thrombophilia were normal. Based on these findings, the patient was diagnosed with septic pylephlebitis complicated with CD, and was successfully treated with intravenous antibiotic therapy combined with anticoagulation. This case suggests that early comprehensive evaluation is crucial for immediate diagnosis and proper treatment of septic pylephlebitis in patients with CD who present with fever and abdominal pain of unknown origin, even with stable disease activity and absence of other intra-abdominal infections. Objectives: This study was performed to review studies on Essential Tremor (ET) in Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Methods: We reviewed papers in the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) from 2007∼ 2016. Search keywords were 原發性震?, 特發性震?, essential tremor and idiopathic tremor, and excluded non-clinical studies, non-related to ET or TCM studies, theses for degrees and non-Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT). The quality of the articles was assessed by Jadad scale and the Risk of Bias (RoB). Results: Thirteen studies were selected. `Criteria for the diagnosis of ET` was most frequently used as diagnostic criteria. `Tremor rating scale` was primarily used for outcome measurement. Meta-analysis of nine trials revealed the effective rate of acupuncture and Western medicine (WM+Acu) groups was significantly higher compared to the WM group (RR: 1.48, 95 percent CI: 1.20 to 1.82, p=0.0002, I²=0 percent) and tremor rating scale was also significantly decreased in the treatment group (MD: -1.35, 95 percent CI: -2.17 to -0.54, p=0.001, I²=0 percent). Also, effective rates of Electro-acupuncture (EA) and Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) groups were significantly higher than that of the WM group {(RR: 1.53, 95 percent CI: 1.22 to 1.92, p=0.0003, I2=0 percent) in EA vs. WM and (RR: 1.35, 95 percent CI: 1.16 to 1.57, p<0.0001, I²=0 percent) in CHM vs. WM}. However, the quality of selected clinical studies was poor. Conclusions: Treatment of ET in TCM may be more effective and safe than in Western medicine. Therefore, we hope this study will lead to further clinical research on treatment of ET in Korean medicine. Key Words: Essential Tremor, Idiopathic Tremor, Traditional Chinese Medicine.

개인의 문화자본 형성수준이 조직 내 업무성과에 미치는 영향: 창의적 사고의 매개효과

For an organization to survive in the rapidly changing business environment, creative thinking must overcome the crisis through innovation and pioneer a market for new value creation. Since this creative thinking can depend on the level of individual cultural capital, this study attempted to investigate the influence of their cultural capital level on work performance and the mediating effect of creative thinking in the causal relationship. The main results of this study, which collected research data based on a total of 244 male and female office workers, and conducted multiple regression analysis using SPSS 26.0, are as follows. First, the cultural capital of the organization's members served as a mechanism to improve the members' performance. Second, the creative thinking of the members of the organization mediated the effect of the level of cultural capital on work performance. Based on these research results, this researcher presented the necessity and implications for accumulating cultural capital at the user and worker levels. 급변하는 경영환경의 변화 속에서 조직이 살아남기 위해서는 혁신을 통해 위기를 극복하고 새로운 가치 창출의 판로를 개척하기 위한 창의적 사고가 필요하다. 이러한 창의적 사고는 개인들의 문화자본 수준에 따라 좌우될 수 있기에 본 연구는 다양한 조직 구성원들을 대상으로 이들의 문화자본 수준이 업무성과에 미치는 영향과 이 인과관계 속에서 창의적 사고의 매개효과를 규명하고자 하였다. 총 244명의 남녀노소 직장인을 토대로 연구자료를 수집하고, SPSS 26.0을 활용하여 다중회귀분석 등을 시행하여 내린 본 연구의 주요한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 조직 구성원의 문화자본은 구성원의 업무성과를 향상시키는 기제로 작용하였다. 둘째, 조직 구성원의 창의적 사고는 문화자본 수준이 업무성과에 미치는 영향을 매개하는 효과를 지니고 있었다. 이러한 연구결과를 토대로 본 연구자는 조직 구성원의 문화자본 축적에 대한 필요성 및 시사점을 제시하였다.

소양호에 서식하는 쏘가리 Siniperca scherzeri의 성숙과 산란 특성

본 논문은 소양호에 서식하는 내수면어업의 주요 수산자원 중 하나인 쏘가리 (Siniperca scherzeri)의 성숙과 산란에 관하여 연구하였다. 본 논문에 사용된 쏘가리는 2014년 4월부터 11월까지 정치망과 자망을 통해 채집하였고, 암컷이 204개체로 전장범위는 113~365 mm이었고, 수컷은 197개체로 전장 범위가 140~342mm이었다. 산란기가 시작되는 5월의 수온은 15°C를 나타냈으며, 점진적으로 높아져 7월에 26°C를 나타내었다. 암컷의 생식소 숙도지수 (GSI)는 5월에서 7월까지 각각 2.3%, 4.6%, 3.1%로 나타났고, 수컷의 경우 8.0%, 6.6%, 4.5%로 나타났다. 난소 조직은 5월에 많은 수의 샘플이 중숙으로 관찰되었으며 6월에는 대다수가 성숙, 7월에는 완숙 및 방란으로 관찰되었다. 정소 조직의 경우에도 마찬가지로 5월에는 대다수가 중숙, 6월에는 성숙, 7월에는 방중으로 관찰되었다. 월별 성숙도와 생식소 숙도지수 (GSI), 생식소의 조직관찰을 통한 분석결과, 소양호에 서식하는 쏘가리의 산란기는 5월에서 6월로 추정되었다. 또한 군성숙도를 분석한 결과, 암컷 쏘가리의 50% 성숙체장은 245.16mm로 나타났다. The study about maturity and spawning of Korean Mandarin fish, Siniperca scherzeri collected using the set net and gill net in Soyangho Lake from April to November 2014 was conducted. The number of individuals was 401 (female: 204, male: 197). The total length of females ranged from 113 mm to 365 mm and that of males was from 140 mm to 342 mm. The water temperature in May which is the start of spawning season indicated about 15°C and gradually increased to July (26°C). Gonadosomatic index (GSI) of females indicated 2.3%, 4.6% and 3.1%, respectively, in May to July. Males’ value showed the similar pattern recording 8.0%, 6.6% and 4.5% in the same time. According to histological observations of gonadal tissue, the most of female in May had the gonadal tissue of maturing and mature stage. And the ovary of June was mostly in the stage of ripe and spawning and a number of individuals in July was recovery stage. In the case of male, a number of males in May showed in the stage of mature. The testis of June showed that mature sperm was releasing. And the testis of July was mostly in recovery stage. The total length at 50% group maturity was estimated 245.16 mm. As shown in the above, the main spawning period of S. scherzeri was May to June.
