The green peach aphid was relatively the majority(36.9-72.3% ) among all alate aphids collected from tobacco plants. Density of glatae was relatively lower on varieties Tl 1112 and Br 21 than on Va 115 or Y S A among seven varieties tested. However, no considerable difference was observed in general biology of nymphs produced by alatae on the tobacco varieties. About 55% of alate green peach aphid collected from tobacco fields produced progency, and over 80% of the nymphs became adults on cut tobacco leaves in petri dish. Adult longevity of both alate and apteral green peach aphid was shorter, and numbers of nymphs produced by both types were lower in summer than in autumn. Apterae produced more nymphs than alatae, but the longevity of apterae was shorter.

The potato tuberworm, Phthorimaea operculella, is an occasional pest to tobacco plants in southern regions of Korea. In order to screen effective pesticides against the worm in tobacco leaves, pot and field experiments were carried out in 1981. In the pot experiment with a tobacco variety, Hicks, several effective organic phosphates (Dimecron- LQ 50, Dursban-WP 25, Ekalux-EC 25. Elsan-EC 47.5, and EPN-EC 45), out of 9 Pesticides tested, were solecte4 from their high mortality of more than 90%. Among these Pesticides Ekalux- EC 25 and Elsan- EC 47.5 were recommended to tobacco growers from their excellent efficacy in the field experiment with a tobacco variety, Burley 21.

The dominant colour - types of fundatrices of green peach aphid, Myzsts persicae 5. were yellow - green, red and green. Yellow type was the minority among nymphs produced by field collected alatae. Rate of producing dead nymphs was over 34.0% in red and yellow types apterae grown from tobacco plants in early summer. Brown and green were the dominant colour - type in apterae throughout tobacco growing season. Brown type on tobacco, and yellow type on hot pepper and tomato grew better and produced more nymphs than other colour - types.
감자나방 (Phthorimaea opercullella Zeller)의 생분포와 피해에 관한 조사

煙草栽培地를 중심으로 감자나방 (Phthorimaea operculella Zeller )의 發生分布와 被害狀況을 調査한 결과 현재 慶北의 盈德, 達城 全南의 城 珍島地域 一圓에 分布되었고 煙草의 被害株率은 50%에 달하였으며 珍島地域이 767%로서 가장 심하였다. 葉位別로는 基部로 부터 3葉까지가 82.4%의 높은 被害株率을 보이며 下葉일수록피해가 심한 경향이였으며 葉當 1 ∼3마리 棲息加害하는 葉이 87.9%로 가장 많고 葉當 11마리 以上 棲息하는 葉도 있었다. The potato tuber moth (Phthorimaea operculella Zeller ) was surveyed for its distribution and damage to tobacco plants in field. The insect was found in all four localities examined ; Dalseong and youngdeog of Gyeongbuk Province, and Boseong and Jindo island of Cheongnam Province. About half of the tobacco plants examined contained the larvae with the highest level (76.7%)of larvae infestation in the Jindo island. In a given tobacco plant the larvae were concentrated on the first three leaves, from bottom, with 82.4 5 of the total number, and a single leaf usually has one to three larval.

Experiments carried out to investigate the resistance levels of two strains of mites in the fruit growing area of Chilkok Gun in Kyung pool, Korea and in order to know the effective control method to mites with acaricide in the fields, Toxicities to metasystox and kelthane were determined by using the slide dip tecknique. The results obtained are as follows. 1) Resistance levels of P. ulmi and T. urticae in orchard sprayed with kelthane were 19.6 and 2.4 times and that with metasystox were 3.5 and 3.7 times greater, respectively, than non-sprayed orchard. 2) Resistance levels of two strains to kelthane and metasystox. : P. ulmi wish kelthane in sprayed orchard showed 3.4 times greater than T. urticae and T. urticae showed 2.4 times greater than P. ulmi in the non-sprayed orchard, Both P. ulmi and T. urticae to metasystox in the non-sprary orchard were 1.2 times greater than sprayed orchard 3) Resistance levels of P. ulmi to kelthane in sprayed orchard and non-sprayed orchard were 8.5 and 1.3 times and T. ulmi were 5. ; and 3.2 times greater than metasystox, recpectixely. Kelthane is more effective to control than metasystox.
