Seasonal variation in species composition and abundance of fish assemblage in the north coast (NC: Ayajin) and central coast (CC: Hupo) of the East Sea were calculated using samples collected by trammel net during 2011-2012. A total of 20 species from NC and 17 species from CC were collected. Of the fishes collected, the dominant fish species were Glyptocephalus stelleri and Careproctus rastrinus in the NC, and Dasycottus setiger and G. stelleri in the CC. These 2 fishes accounted for 71.7% and 81.0% of the total number of individuals collected in the NC and CC, respectively. The number of fish species, number of individuals, biomass and species diversity indices fluctuated with the seasons. The cluster analysis and non-metric multidimensional scaling (MDS) based on Bray-Curtis similarity revealed that the fish assemblages classified into north and central groups. Analysis of similarity percentages of species contributions (SIMPER) indicated that most individual of G. stelleri and Gadus macrocephalus contributed to north group, and D. setiger and G. stelleri in central group, whereas 15 species contributed to 90% of the dissimilarity.

To elucidate the variation of species composition, biomass and length distribution of flatfishes by the period and region in the Uljin marine ranching area, bottom trawl survey was investigated at the six stations from Feb. 2008 to Dec. 2010. During the survey period, a total 4 families 17 species in the Pleuronectiformes, average 69,158 ind./km2and 5,625 kg/km2 were identified, in 2008 appeared in 14 species, average 25,798 ind./km2 and 2,333 kg/km2 and in 2009 appeared in 13 species, average 102,360 ind./km2 and 5,634 kg/km2 and in 2010 appeared in 14 species, average 75,704 ind./km2 and 8,632 kg/km2. The individual dominant species, occupying over 10% of total individuals, was Pleuronectes herzensteini (20,811 ind., 30.0%), Hippoglossoides pinetorum (18,666 ind., 26.9%) and Glyptocephalus stelleri (13,499 ind., 19.4%) also the biomass dominant species, occuping over 10% of total biomass, was P. herzensteini (2,207 kg, 39.3%), Pleuronectes yokohamae (857 kg, 15.3%), H. pinetorum (761 kg, 13.5%), Kareius bicoloratus (677 kg, 12.1%). From the cluster and MDS analysis based on Bray-Curtis similarity matrix of fourth root transformed data of species number and individuals in the Uljin marine ranching area from Feb. 2008 to Dec. 2010 was divided into two different groups of the flatfishes community in 2008 and from Jan. to Apr. in 2009 and 2010 (Group A) and the pleuronectiform community in from May to Dec. in 2009 and 2010 (Group B). From the cluster and MDS analysis using the similarity of demersal organisms community among six stations, the Uljin marine ranching area was divided into two different groups of Group 1 (St. 1 and St. 3) and Group 2 (St. 2, St. 4, St. 5 and St. 6).

This present study investigated characteristics of distribution and community structure of macrobenthic invertebrates through the survey of commercial Danish seine fisheries from 2011 to 2013. In this study, a total of 28 species were sampled with a mean density of 32,568 ind./km2 and mean biomass of 1,649.5 kg/km2. The dominant species, comprising over 1.0% of the total number of individuals, were Chionoecetes opilio (11,203 ind./km2, 34.4%), Pandalus eous (9,247 ind./km2, 28.4%), Ophiuridae spp. (5,750 ind./km2, 17.7%), Argis lar (2,631 ind./km2, 8.1%), Neocrangon communis (994 ind./km2, 3.1%), Berryteuthis magister (612 ind./km2, 1.9%), Sepiola birostrata (499 ind./km2, 1.5%) and Strongylocentrotidae sp. (424 ind./km2, 1.3%). The dominant species, in terms of biomass, comprising over 1.0% of the total biomass, were C. opilio (1,167.2 kg/km2, 70.8%), B. magister (130.3 kg/km2, 7.9%), P. eous (102.4 kg/km2, 6.2%), Ophiuridae spp. (84.6 kg/km2, 5.1%), Enteroctopus dofleini (45.5 kg/km2, 2.8%), A. lar (35.7 kg/km2, 2.2%), Strongylocentrotidae sp. (25.0 kg/km2, 1.5%) and S. birostrata (22.1 kg/km2, 1.3%). Among them, S. birostrata, E. dofleini, Strongylocentrotidae sp. and Ophiuridae spp. were higher abundance and biomass in the shallow water (<200 meters in depth), whereas C. opilio, P. eous, A. lar, N. communis and B. magister were higher in the deep water (301 ~ 500 meters in depth). As the results of cluster analysis and non-metric multidimensional scaling (nMDS) analysis based on the Bray-Curtis similarity of fourth root transformed data for number of species and individuals, the macrobenthic invertebrates community by Danish seine survey was divided into two groups of station in the shallow water (<200 meters in depth, Group A) and the deep water (201 ~ 500 meters in depth, Group B). The major individual-dominant species was S. birostrata, Ophiuridae spp. and immature C. opilio in group A. But Group B was P. eous, A. lar, B. magister and mature C. opilio.
