Doxazosin is an adrenergic alpha-1 receptor antagonist used to treat lower urinary tract symptoms that are common in prostatic hyperplasia. To our knowledge, few cases of gynecomastia and mastodynia, as a complication of adrenergic alpha-1 receptor antagonist, have been reported to date; no cases have been reported in Korea. We describe a case involving a 78-year-old man treated for prostatic hyperplasia with 13 months of doxazosin. He complained about unilateral gynecomstia and mastodynia. Five months after the discontinuation of doxazosin, the gynecomastia was significantly improved. This is the first reported case of gynecomastia and mastodynia associated with doxazosin use in Korea. Cardiovascular malformations, such as bicuspid aortic valve and coarctation of the aorta, are more prevalent in patients with Turner syndrome than in the general population. Here, we describe the case of a 35-year-old female with Turner syndrome who was admitted to our hospital with a fever caused by infective endocarditis. Aortic coarctation was diagnosed using computed tomography. The patient was treated with antibiotics and a stent was then implanted. Endovascular therapy using stents is a safe and effective treatment option for aortic coarctation in patients with Turner syndrome. (Korean J Med 2015;89:331-334)

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of catechin supplement on fat oxidation, free fatty acids (FFA) and triglyceride (TG) following two different treatments (placebo [PL] and catechin [CT])). Seven healthy male collegiate students participated as subjects after signing an informed consent. The submaximal exercise intensity of this study was the maximal fat oxidation exercise intensity (MFOEI) of subjects. To comparative analysis on the effect of lipid metabolism after exercise (300 kcal) after short-term supplement of catechin for three days it was compared the respiratory exchange ratio(RER), fat kilocalories (Fkcal), FFA and TG following every treatment methods. First, there were not significant differences in fat oxidation included RER and Fkcal among treatment methods. However, the RER values was decreased in the CT and the Fkcal values was increased in the CT than PL. Second, there were significant differences in FFA and TG among treatment methods(p<.05). The TG of CT was significantly higher than PL at 10min of recovery. The FFA concentration of CT was significantly higher than PL at 30 min of recovery. Especially, CT treatment has high than PL for recovery periods. In summary, results of this study revealed that catechin have the beneficial effects on fat oxidation and glycogen sparing by fat metabolism facilitation. Although the detailed molecular mechanism by which catechin enhances fat use during exercise remains to be elucidated, activation of lipid metabolism in skeletal muscle is believed to be a key factor.

Relapsing polychondritis is an uncommon disease associated with inflammation in cartilaginous tissues throughout the body, particularly affecting the cartilaginous structures of ears, nose, joints, and respiratory tract. Several autoimmune diseases, including vasculitis, are associated with the concurrent relapsing polychondritis. However, ankylosing spondylitis primarily affecting the sacroiliac joints and spine is rare in patients with relapsing polychondritis. We report on a 54-year-old man with concurrently relapsing polychondritis and ankylosing spondylitis. (J Rheum Dis 2015;22:56-60)

The objective of this study consists in inquiring in to herpetology, plasma protein, and chemical changes in lithicaacid, and the resultant findings are revealed, as follow: 1. Herpetology 1) Red Blood Cell (RBC) Red blood cells show the lowest value at rest, 4.51 count/mm3, in the athlete group, while the highest value right an after an exercise,4.76 count/mm3. The results of t-tests both an rest and right after an exercise do not present any significant difference. 2) White Blood Cell (WBC) White blood cells show the lowest value at rest, 5.67 count/mm3 in the non-athlete group, while the highest value right after an exercise, 12.9 count/mm3 in the athlete group. The results of t-tests do not represent any significant difference between the two groups at rest, but a significant difference right after an exercise by the t value of 9.3114. 3) Hemoglobin Hemoglobin presents 16.2 g/dl at rest in the non-athlete groups, 14.8 g/dl at rest in the athlete group, while it shows 17 g/dl right after an exercise in the non-athlete group, and 15.5 g/dl in the athlete group. However, it shows a 9.46% higher at rest and a 9.68% higher value right after an exercise in the non-athlete group, as compared with that of the athlete group. 4) Hematocrit Hematocrit exhibits 41.8% at rest in the non-athlete group, 45% at rest in the athlete group, whereas 45.7% right after an exercise in the non-athlete group, 43.8% in the athlete group. This reflects a 7.6% higher at rest and 4.34% higher value right after an exercise. In consequence, herpetology before and after Harvard step tests conducted on the national level Taekwondo champions and general students shows in general higher values right after an exercise than at rest in both the athlete and non-athlete groups. These results indicate that Taekwondo champions have better aerobic ability than the general students. But it is recommened that more studies should be conducted, expecially on comparison of Taekwondo champions' aerobic strength with that of the general students.
