In this paper, we describe a novel human-friendly interface based on hand gesture recognition using multiple cameras. The proposed system allows the users to control various home appliances naturally without any body-attached devices within a smart home. Through the developed system, the user first selects the device that he/she wants to control by pointing to it with his/her hand. Then, the user can command the operation of desired functions via 10 predefined basic hand motion commands. In order to complement the errors in recognizing the user’s pointing directions, we adopt the concept of feedback by which the user can adjust the pointing direction and confirm the recognition result. The developed system complements some inconveniences of conventional remote controllers specifically by giving additional freedom to persons with movement deficits.

Background: Facial features are regarded as representative and reliable characteristics for diagnosing a person's Sasang Constitution (SC). However, the description of these features tends to depend on the interpretation and the opinion of the doctor that follows the SC approach. In this paper, we performed a facial feature analysis of SC types in an objective and quantitative manner. Here, site-to-site variability can be an obstacle to properly analyzing facial features when images are taken from various sites, which may have different experimental environments. A compensation technique to reduce the site-to-site variability was proposed before performing the feature analysis. Methods: The frontal and profile images of 1464 patients recruited from various oriental medical clinics (19 sites) were used. Candidate feature variables were created, which were inspired by the facial characteristics of the SC types described in the Sasang constitutional medicine literature. To resolve the problems involved in processing data collected from various sites with heterogeneous experimental environments, a compensation technique was proposed. Statistical analysis techniques were employed to observe the differences among the SC types and to demonstrate how effectively the site-to-site variability was reduced. Results: The facial features that were significant for diagnosing the SC types were identified by a statistical analysis, and it was verified that the compensation technique reduced the site-to-site variability produced by the differences in photographic distance. Conclusion: It is noted that the significant facial features represent common characteristics of each SC type in the sense that we collected extensive opinions from many Sasang constitutional medicine doctors with various points of view. Additionally, a compensation method for the photographic distance is needed to find the significant facial features. We expect these findings and the related compensation technique to contribute to establishing a scientific basis for the precise diagnosis of SC types in clinical practice.
퍼지 제어기를 이용한 터널 굴진기의 자동제어에 관한 연구

본 논문에서는 터널 굴진기의 모든 조작이 시스템 운용자에 의해 수동으로 운용 되고 있는 방법을 개선하여 터널 굴진기의 토크/추력 및 송/배니압을 자동으로 제어하는 방법을 제안한다. 이를 위하여 본 연구에서는 굴진 운용자의 토크/추력 및 송/배니압의 수동 제어 방법에 대해 체계적인 분석을 하였고 이를 바탕으로 퍼지 제어기와 경고 및 긴급 정지를 위한 제어기를 설계하였다. 제안된 시스템은 전문가 규칙으로부터 퍼지 규칙을 추출하였기 때문에 시스템 운용자들의 숙련된 제어 방법을 그대로 따르면서 시스템의 변화에 신속하게 대응할 수 있다. 따라서 복잡한 환경에서 전문가의 역할을 대신할 수 있으며 기존에 운용자의 인지능력의 한계로 인해 시스템의 상태 변화에 빠르게 대응하기 어려웠던 점을 해결할 수 있다. In this paper, we propose the automatic control algorithm of torque/pipejacking thrust and slurry charging/discharging pressure in the microtunneling system to assist operators assuring the quality of microtunneling construction. To develop this algorithm, we analyze the microtunneling system which is manually controlled by expert and design fuzzy controller. warning system, and halt sensing system The proposed automatic tunneling algorithm shows good tunneling results comparable with those of experts.

1. Objectives: In order to classify an individual into four constitution type, an oriental medical doctor utilizes various information such as face, pulse, voice, and questionnaire. When only one type of information is used, one's constitution may not be decided correctly. 2. Methods: In this paper, we propose a novel four constitution types classifier using facial images which classifies subjects into indecision group as well as Taeumin, Soeumin, and Soyangin. 3. Results: Experimental results show that it increases the classification rate though the decision rate is rather decreased, which is more effective and reliable than conventional classifiers without indecision. 4. Conclusion: For the effective classification, we have found that it is more useful to add an indecision group which requires more information to be properly classified into one constitution type.
