        Estimation the genetic parameters and evaluating the correlation between the maternal linear type traits and the birth weight of the progeny in Hanwoo cows

        This study aimed to investigate the correlation between the linear type traits of mother cows (dams) and the birth weight(BW) of the progeny. The study used data collected between 2002 and 2018 by the Korea Animal Improvement Association (KAIA). This study evaluated the data specifically with respect to 19 traits. A statistical model was established to estimate the correlation between the maternal linear classification traits and the progeny BW. The significance of each statistical variable was analyzed using the generalized linear model (GLM) method in the SAS package 9.1.3 software, while the genetic parameters were estimated using the BLUPF90 Family program. The BW of Hanwoo cows increased by approximately 0.4 kg each year; however, the BW heritability was moderate (0.23). The linear classification traits showed values of 0.34, 0.37, 0.11, 0.45, 0.31, and 0.40, for ST (Vertical distance from the apex of the rump to the ground), BL (Horizontal distance between anterior shoulder point to the posterior extremity of the pin bone), RA (The slope from the rump to the pin bone), RL (Horizontal distance from the anterior rump to the tip of the pin bone), PBW (Lateral width of pin bone), and FS (Final score), respectively, with moderate heritability for all traits, except RA. The BW of the progeny showed phenotypic correlations of 0.06, -0.01, 0.03, and 0.04, and genetic correlations of 0.09, 0.03, 0.02, and -0.04 with ST, BL, RL, and PBW, respectively. The average parity in Hanwoo cows increased from 2.5 in 2016 to 2.8 in June 2020. There is a low genetic correlation between the maternal linear classification traits and the BW of the progeny. An increase in the parity of dams and a greater accumulation of progeny BW data and test records could lead to the accurate evaluation of the BW as a breeding objective trait.

        한우 도체형질과 생시체중의 유전모수 추정 및 연관성 규명

        This study was conducted to explore the connection between the birth weight and carcass traits of Hanwoo and to use the data collected from Chungnam National University, which participated in the Hanwoo cow test farm project, as basic data on the establishment of improvement goals for birth weight. The analysis used 342,659 birth weights of animals born from 2002 to 2018, 302,474 animals of pedigree data and 387,961 animals of carcass traits data. In order to estimate the correlation between birth weight and carcass traits, two statistical models were established and analyzed in consideration of environmental factors affecting the trait. In the first model(Model 1), the heritability of steer was 0.28, 0.67, 0.70, 0.41, 0.63 and 0.48 in BW, SW, CW, EMA, MS and BF, respectively. The cows were 0.30, 0.34, 0.32, 0.20, 0.21 and 0.37, respectively. The results of the second model(Model 2), including the permanent environmental effect of the maternal, showed an increase in heritability of 0.01 to 0.29 for steer and 0.31 for cows, showing no significant change. Genetic correlations between BW, SW, CW, EMA, MS and BF in steer were 0.39, 0.42, 0.40, 0.25, and 0.24, respectively, showing moderate correlations. The cows BW, SW, CW, EMA showed similar results with 0.31, 0.41, and 0.44, respectively. According to the results of the study, the genetic relationship between the heritability to BW, SW, CW and carcass trait shows that the birth weight is related to each carcass trait. It is believed that it can be used as basic data. 본 연구는 암소검정사업으로 충남대학교에서 수집된 자료를 이용하여 한우의 생시체중과 도체형질간의 연관성을 탐색하여생시체중 형질에 대한 개량목표 설정에 대한 기초자료로 사용하기 위해 수행되었다. 분석에 이용된 자료는 2002년도부터 2018 년도까지 생산된 개체들의 생시체중 342,659건과 이 개체들에 대한 혈통등록자료 302,474두, 도체성적자료 387,961두를 분석에이용하였다. 생시체중과 도체형질 간 상관관계를 추정하기 위하여, 형질에 영향을 미치는 환경요인을 고려하여 2개의 통계모형을 설정하여 각각 분석하였다. 모형에 따른 거세우와 암소의 분석결과는 첫 번째 모형(Model 1)에서 거세우의 생시체중, 출하체중, 도체중, 등심단면적, 근내지방도, 등지방두께의 유전력이 각각 0.28, 0.67, 0.70, 0.41, 0.63, 0.48로 나타났고, 암소의 경우 각각0.30, 0.34, 0.32, 0.20, 0.21, 0.37로 나타났다. 모체의 영구환경효과를 포함한 두 번째 모형(Model 2)의 결과는 거세우에서 0.29, 암소에서 0.31로 0.01의 유전력이 상승한 것으로 나타나 큰 변화를 보이지는 않았다. 본 연구결과에 따르면 거세우에서 생시체중과 출하체중 및 도체중, 등심단면적, 근내지방도, 등지방두께 사이의 유전상관은 각각 0.39, 0.42, 0.40, 0.25, 0.24로 나타나 중도의 상관관계를 나타내었고 암소에서는 생시체중과 출하체중, 도체중, 등심단면적 사이에서 각각 0.31, 0.41, 0.44로 거세우와 비슷한 결과로 나타났다. 본 연구의 분석결과에 따라 생시체중에 대한 유전력과 출하체중, 도체형질과의 유전적 연관성은 생시체중이 각각의 도체형질와 연관성이 있는 것으로 나타나 향후 생시체중을 이용한 한우산업의 개량목표 설정 및 개량형질 설정에기초자료로 이용할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

        생화학 자동분석기용 Mediace RPR 검사의 성능 및 위양성 평가

        Background : We evaluated the performance and false positive rate of Mediace RPR test (Sekisui, Japan), a newly introduced nontreponemal test using a chemistry autoanalyzer. Methods : The sensitivity of Mediace RPR test was analyzed using sera from 50 patients with syphilis in different stages (8 primary, 7 secondary, and 35 latent), 14 sera positive with fluorescent treponemal antibody absorption (FTA-ABS) IgM, and 74 sera positive with conventional rapid plasma regain (RPR) card test (Asan, Korea) and also positive with Treponema pallidum hemagglutination (TPHA) test or FTA-ABS IgG test. The specificity was analyzed on 108 healthy blood donors. We also performed RPR card test on 302 sera that had been tested positive with Mediace RPR test and also performed TPHA or FTA-ABS IgG test to analyze the false positive rate of Mediace RPR test. A cutoff value of 0.5 R.U. (RPR unit) was used for Mediace RPR test. Results : Mediace RPR test on syphilitic sera of different stages (primary, secondary, and latent stages) and FTA-ABS IgM positive sera showed a sensitivity of 100%, 100%, 82.9% and 100%, respectively. Among the 74 sera positive with conventional RPR card test and TPHA or FTA-ABS IgG test, 55 were positive with Mediace test. The specificity of Mediace RPR test on blood donors was 97.2%. Among the 302 sera positive with Mediace RPR test, 137 sera (45.4%) were negative by RPR card and TPHA/FTA-ABS IgG tests. Conclusions : Although the sensitivities of Mediace RPR were good for primary and secondary syphilis, due to its high negative rate of Mediace RPR over the conventional RPR positive samples, further studies are necessary whether it can replace conventional nontreponemal test for screening purpose. Moreover, in view of the high false positive rate, positive results by Mediace RPR test should be confirmed with treponemal tests. (Korean J Lab Med 2008;28:312-8)

        유전 및 육종 : 국내 Holstein종 젖소의 경제형질과 착유량에 따른 소득의 유전모수 추정

        본 연구에서 1982년부터 2010년까지 수집된 농협젖소개량사업소의 628,395두의 산유능력검정자료를 이용 경제성 분석을 실시한 후, 전산차 산유기록과 선형심사자료를 갖고 있는 1998~2004년 출생 62,262두를 선발하여 그 개체들의 유대로 인한 순이익과 경제형질간의 유전모수를 추정하였다. 순이익의 계산은 국내유대체계와 통계청 및 농협의 통계지표를 활용하여 개체의 유대 및 생산원가를 계산하였다. 심사형질은 한국종축개량협회의 15개 심사형질과 종합점수, 산유형질은 실착유량과 평균유지율, 유단백율에 대하여 조사하였다. 선형심사형질들 사이에서 가장 높은 정(+)의 유전상관 은 체심(BD) 형질과 강건성(SR) 형질 사이에서의 0.81로 나타났으며, 가장 높은 부(-)의 유전상관은 체심(BD) 형질과 유방깊이(UD), 뒤에서 본 앞유두 배열위치(TP) 형질과 앞유두크기(TL)의 -0.23으로 나타났다. 유량과 유지율, 유단백율 사이의 유전상관은 모두 중도의 부(-)의 유전상관을 나타내었고, 선형심사형질과의 유전상관도 모두 저도의 정(+)의 유전상관을 나타내었다. 선형심사형질과 착유량에 따른 순수익간의 유전상관은 대부분의 형질에서 저도의 정(+)의 유전상관을 나타내었다. 착유량에 따른 순수익과 유량과 유지율, 유단백율 사이에서는 모두 정(+)의 유전상관을 나타내었다. 이 연구에서 결과들은 개체의 순수익은 산차와 비례하여 증대되는 것을 보여주었고, 선형심사형질 중 순수익에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 선형심사형질은 체심과 예각성, 뒷유방너비 형질로 나타났고, 순수익에 가장 큰 유전적 영향을 미치는 것은 유지율이었고, 산유량이 뒤를 이었다. 유량과 유지율에 비해 유단백율과 순수익 간에는 높지 않은 유전상관이 나타났는데, 유대체계에 유단백율을 반영하지 않기 때문인 것으로 판단된다. The data including milk yields, fat and protein percent for 628,395 heads collected by National Agricultural Cooperative Federation, 15 type traits and final score for 62,262 heads collected by Korea Animal Improvement Association, which were born in 1998 to 2004, and net profits calculated from milk price and raising expenses of individuals were used to estimate genetic parameters. The highest positive genetic correlation, 0.81, was shown between body depth(BD) and loin strength(SR). Genetic correlations between body depth(BD) and udder depth(UD), front teat placement(TP) and front teat length(TL) were -0.23, which were lowest among the linear type traits. Furthermore, medium level of negative genetic correlations were shown the milk yield with milk contents rate traits. Mostly low level of positive genetic correlations were shown between the milk traits and linear score traits except milk yield and stature. Most of the genetic correlations of between the linear score traits and net profit were low level of positive or negative genetic correlations. Among the genetic correlations, body depth(BD), angularity(DF) and rear attachment width(UW), and final score(FS) with net profit were high as 0.17, 0.17, 0.18 and 0.18, respectively. Finally all of the genetic correlations between net profit and milk traits were positive and higher than the linear traits with positive genetic correlations. The results of this study suggest that net profit has been related with the linear traits, such as body depth(BD), angularity(DF) and rear attachment width(UW) traits, and furthermore, milk traits including yield and contents rates influence positively and greatly on net profit.

        홀스타인 선형심사형질에 대한 유전모수 추정

        The objective of this study was to estimate genetic parameters for 18 linear conformation traits and overall conformation score in Holstein cattle. A total of 376,606 records for type traits were collected from 2001 to 2011 from Korea Animal Improvement Association. The model of estimation of variance components and correlations among lactations using VCE included both fixed effects (herd-year-season and stage of lactation parity-wise) and random effect (animal additive genetic). The estimated heritabilities (h2) for capacity class, such as stature, chest width, body depth, angularity, and body condition score were 0.32, 0.16, 0.27, 0.12, and 0.19, respectively. Rump angle and width from rump class also showed h2 of 0.31 and 0.17, respectively. The heritabilities in udder class were mostly low to medium; in which traits were fore udder attachment (0.13), rear udder height (0.17), udder support (0.11), udder depth (0.33), front teat placement (0.17), front teat length (0.21), and rear teat placement (0.21). For feet and legs composite class, the estimated heritabilities for rear leg set, foot angle, rear leg rear view, and locomotion were 0.12, 0.07, 0.08, and 0.03, respectively. The h2 estimated for overall conformation score was 0.16 in the study. The genetic and environmental variance components estimated from this study would be helpful to change from single lactation animal models to multiple lactation animal models in the national genetic evaluation system for the improvement of linear type traits. Moreover, The breeding values obtained using these variance components would be able to be used in the calculation of Korean type production index (KTPI), udder composite (UDC) and, feet and legs composite (FLC).

        한우 암소의 도체형질에 대한 유전모수 추정

        In this study, it was carried out to improve the cow at the farm by estimating the genetic parameters of the carcass traits of Hanwoo cows. The average value and standard deviation of carcass weight(CW), eye muscle area(EMA), backfat thickness(BF), and marbling score(MS) were 343.73±46.51kg, 13.16±5.13mm, 82.67±11.30㎠, and 3.95±1.86 in the basic statistical analysis of cows. The environmental effect of variance analysis for estimating genetic parameters showed a significant difference(p<0.001) from each carcass traits for slaughter month age and HYS(breeding area, slaughter year, slaughter season. In the genetic parameters of carcass traits, the heritability(h2) of CW, EMA, BF, and MS were estimated to be 0.50, 0.40, 0.41, and 0.54, respectively. In the analysis of genetic correlation coefficients between carcass traits were 0.67, 0.15 and 0.06 in CW, EMA, BF, and MS, respectively. EMA and BF, MS are –0.11, 0.07, BF and MS were 0.13, and genetic correlation between CW and EMA showed a strong positive(+) relationship, but other traits showed a low correlation coefficient. In previous studies, it was known that there was a negative correlation between traits, but in this study, it was found that the marbling score was artificially adjusted by cartilage ossification when the CW was determined, and further research is needed. In the phenotypic correlation analysis, 0.65 and 0.37 and 0.27, respectively, in CW and EMA, BF and MS, EMA and BF, MS is 0.19, 0.26, BF and MS were 0.20, and the correlation coefficient was analyzed to be low between other traits except for the phenotypic correlation between CW and EMA. As such, there is high heritability in the carcass traits of cows with a distribution of 0.40 to 0.54, and various studies based on this should be promoted and used as an evaluation index to improve the fertility and meat quality of cows.

        한우 유전능력평가를 위한 도체형질별 가격기여도 분석

        본 연구는 한우 경락가격과 지육가격에 대한 각 형질별 기여도를 알아보기 위해 한국종축개량협회에 등록되고 축산물품질평가원에서 등급판정 결과 및 경락가격이 있는 한우 거세우 166,918두의 자료를 이 용하여 분석하였으며, 이를 통해 향후 한우산업 발전의 도움이 되는 자료로 활용하고자 실시하였다. 한 우 거세우의 경락가격에 대한 도체중, 배최장근단면적, 등지방두께 및 근내지방도의 준부분상관자승값 은 각각 0.001, 0.010, 0.031 및 0.435로 나타났고 지육가격에 대한 준부분상관자승값은 각각 0.153, 0.007, 0.021 및 0.274로 나타났다. 이를 바탕으로 경락가격에 따른 도체중, 배최장근단면적, 등지방두 께 및 근내지방도의 기여도는 각각 0.17%, 2.02%, 6.52% 및 91.30%로 나타났으며 지육가격에 따른 기 여도는 각각 33.54%, 1.54%, 4.69% 및 60.23%로 나타났다. 따라서 이러한 경락가격과 지육가격에 대 한 각 형질별 분석 결과를 바탕으로 향후 개량방향 설정에 반영하고 우수한 품질의 고급육 생산으로 국 가경쟁력을 강화해야 할 것으로 사료된다. The study data were obtained from 166,918 Hanwoo steer in Korea Animal Improvement Association, and carcass record data from the Korea Institute for Animal Products Quality Evaluation, were utilized to analyze the effects of improvement on carcass traits and auction cost and the level of contribution of improvement to prices. The semi-partial correlation square value about auction price of carcass weight, eye muscle area, backfat thickness and marbling score were 0.001, 0.010, 0.031 and 0.435, respectively, and those of dressed carcass cost were 0.153, 0.007, 0.021 and 0.274, respectively. The levels of contribution of carcass weight, eye muscle area, backfat thickness, and marbling scores to auction cost were shown to be 0.17%, 2.02%, 6.52%, and 91.30%, respectively, and those of dressed carcass cost were shown to be 33.54%, 1.54%, 4.69%, and 60.23%, respectively. In the case of both auction cost and dressed carcass cost, the levels of contribution of marbling scores were the highest. These results are considered utilizable as analysis data for grasping farm profitability and for estimating economic farm revenues in farms and the Hanwoo industry.

        한우 암소의 선형 및 외모심사형질에 대한 유전모수 추정

        This study utilized 32,312 records of 17 linear type and 10 conformation traits(including finalscores) of Hanwoo cows in the KAIA(Korea Animal Improvement Association) (’09~’10), with60,556 animals in the pedigree file. Traits included stature, body length, strength, body depth,angularity, shank thickness, rump angle, rump length, pin bone width, thigh thickness, uddervolume, teat length, teat placement, foot angle, hock angle, rear leg back view, body balance, breed characteristic, head development, forequarter quality, back line, rump, thigh development,udder development, leg line, and final score. Genetic and residual(co) variances were estimatedusing bi-trait pairwise analyses with EM-REML algorithm. Herd-year-classifier, year atclassification, and calving stage were considered as fixed effects with classification months as acovariate. The heritability estimates ranged from 0.03(teat placement) to 0.42(body length). Rumplength had the highest positive genetic correlation with pin bone width(0.96). Moreover, stature,body length, strength, and body depth had the highest positive genetic correlations with rumplength, pin bone width, and thigh thickness(0.81-0.94). Stature, body length, strength, bodydepth, rump length, pin bone width, and thigh thickness traits also had high positive geneticcorrelations. 본 연구는 부모의 혈통정보를 모두 아는 혈통 및 고등등록우로 등록된 한우 암소 25,516두의 선형 및외모심사형질에 대해 유전모수를 추정하였다. 각 심사형질에 영향을 주는 것으로 판단되는 주요인을 선정하여 다형질 개체모형에 적용하여 EM-REML 알고리즘 분석방법을 통해 각 형질에 대한 유전력과 유전상관과 표현형상관을 추정하였다. 한우 암소의 17개 선형심사형질 및 10개 외모심사형질(종합점수 포함)의 유전력 추정치의 범위는 0.03(유두배열)에서 0.42(체장)까지로 추정되었다. 체고, 체장, 강건성,체심, 윤곽성, 정강이두께, 피모의 색, 엉덩이기울기, 고장, 좌골폭, 넓적다리의 두께, 유방용적, 유두길이, 유두배열, 발굽기울기, 뒷다리 비절기울기, 뒤에서 본 뒷다리자세, 체적․균형, 자질․품위, 머리․목,전구, 중구, 엉덩이, 넓적다리, 유기, 지제보양 및 종합점수의 유전력은 각각 0.4, 0.42, 0.27, 0.25,0.06, 0.14, 0.22, 0.31, 0.19, 0.17, 0.29, 0.04, 0.07, 0.02, 0.11, 0.03, 0.16, 0.27, 0.08, 0.15,0.14, 0.14, 0.19, 0.16, 0.05, 0.08 및 0.3으로 추정되었다. 한편, 다형질개체모형에 의해 추정된 17개선형심사형질과 종합점수에 대한 유전상관추정 결과는 다음과 같다. 고장과 좌골폭간에 0.96의 가장 강한 양(+)의 유전적 관계를 나타내었다. 반면 발굽기울기와 뒷다리 비절기울기간에는 -0.57의 가장 큰음(-)의 유전상관을 보였다. 전체외모 형질인 체고, 체장, 간겅성 및 체심은 각 형질간에, 그리고 기타 형질들과 강한 양(+)의 유전상관관계를 나타내었다. 특히 체고 및 체심과 고장 및 좌골폭간에 높은 양(+)의상관관계를 나타내었으며, 체고와 엉덩이기울기간에는 0.32의 양(+)의 상관을 나타내었다.

        유전 및 육종 : 국내 듀록의 종돈장간의 교류현황과 유전능력평가에 미치는 효과

        The study was carried to identify the impact on nation-wide genetic evaluation and to obtain basic materials for the development of strategies in Swine Improvement Network Project(SINP). Data consisted of pedigree records of 235,511 and performance records of 70,747 for Duroc from 1987 to 2010 were collected by Korea Animal Improvement Association. Performance traits included three point back fat thickness(Shoulder, Belly, Waist), loin area, days to 90 kg and average daily gain. Exchange of genetic resources cross the breeding farms was not high, and furthermore the sizable farms which can accommodate genetic evaluation within the farm were scarce. Three data sets(individual farm evaluation: I, two sub-group evaluation: S, and whole eight farm evaluation: P) were used for genetic analysis. Genetic variances were larger in subordinate farms than in joiners farms for connectedness, and consequently the heritabilities were generally higher in subordinate farms than in joiner farms with I. The standard errors of heritability were small in the order of I, S and P. Estimated average inbreeding coefficients were 1.12%, 0.95% and 1.53% for joiner and subordinate group with S and population with P, respectively. The estimated correlations of breeding values with I and P were lowest. The correlations of breeding values with I and P for traits ranged 0.22 to 0.45 for moved parent animals and 0.24 to 0.72 for all animals. The results in the study suggest that nation-wide evaluation uses more pedigree information and improves accuracy. Furthermore SINP for connectedness could help to improve the accuracy of evaluation.
