The stiffness of piston seal is one of the main factor influencing the performance for caliper brake such as brake drag and brake oil consumption. With uniaxial compression test of rubber, it is difficult to obtain compression property due to friction force and the results of material test and CAE for rubber may have an small error themselves. In this study, equi-biaxial tension test and material calibration were carried out. In order to measure properties at pure state, compression properties were obtained by equi-baxial tension test and To improve reliability, calibrated material property was determined by optimization between CAE compression results and test compression results of piston seal. By using the calibrated material property, the comparison of experimental and analytical results for the performance of caliper brake shows good agreement.

The diet composition of juvenile Trachurus japonicus were studied using 195 specimens collected from 2013 (May, June, July, and September) to 2014 (May, June, and July) in the coastal waters of Geumodo, Yeosu, Korea. The size of juvenile T. japonicus ranged from 4.3 to 15.2 cm in body length (BL). Juvenile T. japonicus was carnivorous and crustaceans predators that consumes mainly consumed copepods. Its diet also included small quantities of decapods, cirripedians, nematods, chaetognathans, fishes, amphipods, cumaceans, ostracods and euphausiids. The graphical method for feeding strategy revealed that juvenile T. japonicus is an opportunistic and specialized predator on copepods, especially Corycaeus. affinis, and showed narrow niche width. Juvenile T. japonicus showed ontogenetic diet change. Small size group individuals (4.3-8.0 cm BL) mainly consumed copepods. The portion of this prey item decreased in the large size group (8.0-15.2 cm BL), and this decrease was paralleled with increased consumption of decapods.

Seasonal catch distributions of large purse seines and daily landings of coastal set nets were analyzed to understand the migration path of the Spanish mackerel Scomberomorus niphonius around Korean waters. The Spanish mackerel start to move toward the coastal region in the South and West Sea in May for spawning and stay until July, when spawning finishes. Afterwards, they start to migrate to the East China Sea and the southern East Sea and are found irrespective of the onshore and offshore regions. Therefore, they disappear from the offshore region during the spawning season in June and July, and a new recruitment population of age 0 begins to inflow into the coastal fishing grounds in the South Sea and West Sea in August, one month earlier than in the Japanese coastal region of the East Sea.

The population variation of Spanish mackerel (Scomberomorus niphonius) according to its major prey abundance was analyzed using monthly catches of coastal set net fisheries in the southern waters off Gyeongsangnam-do and eastern waters off Gyeongsangbuk-do of Korea from 2006 to 2019. The abundance of Spanish mackerel and its prey species fluctuated almost simultaneously with time lags of +2 to -2 months between the set net fisheries in the southern and eastern waters. The generalized additive model revealed that the abundance of Spanish mackerel was influenced by its prey species such as hairtail and anchovy in southern waters, and common mackerel and horse mackerel in eastern waters. The model deviance explained 49% and 42% of Spanish mackerel abundance in southern and eastern waters respectively. These results suggest that the abundance of Spanish mackerel is affected by seasonal migratory prey fish species in the coastal areas and can be linked to their northerly migration.
한국 주변해역에서 대형선망으로 어획한 고등어 (Scomber japonicus)의 성장과 연령구조 연구

본 연구는 2015년 1월부터 12월까지 한국 주변해역에서 대형 선망어업으로 어획된 고등어의 성장과 연령구조를 분석하였다. 연령분석을 위해 총 459개의 이석이 사용되었고, 가랑이체장의 범위는 19.6~46.0 cm였다. 연령은 투명대의 수, 채집일, 이석 가장자리 형태, 1월 1일의 명목생일에 대한 정보를 이용하여 판독하였다. 윤문은 고등어의 산란시기인 5월에 형성되었다. 연령은 0세부터 6세까지 추정되었고, von Bertalanffy 성장식은 성별 간 유의한 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 암컷과 수컷을 모두 합한 성장식은 FL<sub>t</sub>=39.3×{1- exp[- 0.90×(t+0.033)]}으로 도출되었다. 2015년 대형선망 어획물의 연령구조를 살펴본 결과, 2세군의 어획비율이 30.9%로 가장 높았고, 0~2세군은 전체 어획물의 88.5%로 대부분을 차지하였다. We examined the growth and age structure for chub mackerel caught by a large purseseine in the Korean waters from January to December 2015. A total of 459 specimens were used for otolith analysis, ranging from 19.6 cm to 46.0 cm in fork length. Translucent zone was regarded as an annual mark, and age was counted using the information of the number of translucent zone, capture date, edge type of the otolith and nominal birthdate of 1 January. Annuli in otoliths were mainly formed in May, coinciding with the spawning season. Estimated ages were 0~6 years, and the von Bertalanffy growth models were not significantly different between male and female. Sex-combined growth model was obtained as FL<sub>t</sub>=39.3×{1 - exp[ - 0.90×(t+0.033)]}. Among the chub mackerel caught in 2015, the age 2 group had the highest proportion (30.9%), and the age 0 to 2 group accounted for 88.5% of the total catch.

We examined the inter-annual changes in the community structure of fish in the Yeosu coast during the spring fishing period (May June) from 2008 to 2015. Using a both sides fyke net, we collected 74 taxa, of which the dominant species was Trachurus japonicus. In the years 2009-2010 and 2015, when the relative abundance of T. japonicus decreased, the fish species diversity increased, as estimated from the rarefaction curve and beta-diversity, resulting in a significant difference in the fish community structure between two year groups: one comprising 2009-2010 and 2015 and the other comprising 2008 and 2011-2014. T. japonicus may be a keystone species that plays a critical role in temporal changes in the community structure of fish caught by fyke nets along the southern coast of Korea. Obvious modes in the length-frequency of T. japonicus smaller than fork length (FL) 10 cm were observed continually during the study, while the frequency of T. japonicus bigger than FL 15 cm declined rapidly after 2010. The new recruitment of smaller T. japonicus before and after 2010 appeared beginning in June and May, respectively.

The species composition of bycatch species in the coastal waters of Yeosu were determined by monthly sample collection using a gape net with wings in 2014. Of a total of 32 fishes collected, the dominant species were Ammodytes personatus, Conger myriaster leptocephali, Sebastes inermis, Trichiurus lepturus, Thryssa kammalensis, Leiognathus nuchalis, Syngnathus schlegeli, Thryssa adelae and Hexagrammos otakii. These 9species accounted for 95.2% of the total number of individuals collected. Most of the fish caught were juveniles and small fishes. Based on the results of multidemensional scaling (MDS) analysis, the bycatch fishes were divided into five group.
