The main objective of this paper is to evaluate the control performance of a coulomb friction damper (CFD) for controlling the inelastic behavior of seismically excited buildings. The seismic performances of various buildings are evaluated, and the additional dampings are calculated using capacity spectrum method (CSM) if the evaluated performance levels of the buildings are below the target level. Maximum friction force of the Coulomb friction damper is then calculated using the concept of equivalent viscous damping. Numerical simulations for various single degree of freedom (SDOF) systems demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed procedure.

Devitrified amorphous alloy nanocomposites with nanoscale precipitates are regarded as new prospective structural materials with superior mechanical properties such as high strength and high shear resistance. Several different models for the strengthening mechanism in partially devitrified amorphous nanocomposite materials have been proposed; shear resistance model, matrix solute enrichment model and phase mixture model. However, the strengthening mechanism of the devitrified amorphous nanocomposites has not been clearly elucidated. In order to analyse the hardening behaviour of the partially devitrified amorphous alloys, the change in solute concentration of Zr-based alloys during the devitrification process by heat treatment was investigated. It was found that the solute concentration of the remaining amorphous matrix increases during the devitrification when the solute concentration of the initial amorphous alloy is higher than that of the precipitate. On the other hand, the solute is diluted in the remaining amorphous matrix during the devitrification when the solute concentration of the initial amorphous alloy is lower than that of the precipitate. Investigating this solute concentration change and the associated mechanical properties shows that it is the phase mixtures model, and not the solute concentration model, that provides an adequate description of the devitrified amorphous nanocomposites.

This paper presents equivalent linear system for 76-story benchmark building with nonlinear tuned liquid column damper (TLCD). The response characteristic of benchmark building for the deterministic wind loads is investigated. And then, the equivalent linear system is obtained first in terms of equivalent linear damping and second in terms of equivalent single degree of freedom system. Numerical results show that these equivalent linear systems can almost exactly predict the controlled structural responses when compared with the nonlinear TLCD system. Finally, an equation for estimating the peak response of structure subjected to harmonic load is derived. This equation does not require any iteration process which is essential in the analysis using eqjivalent linear system for TLCD.

Purpose : We performed this study in order to investigate the clinical features and the therapeutic outcome of infants with torticollis according to the classification; congenital muscular torticollis(CMT), postural torticollis(PT) and, ocular torticollis(OT). Methods : This study was conducted on 80 infants with torticollis who had been treated from March 2000 to July 2004 in the outpatient clinic of the pediatrics and rehabilitation medicine department of NHIC Ilsan Hospital. All the patients were physically and neurologically examined and took cervical X-rays and ultrasonographies. Based on the results the patients were classified into the subtypes of torticollis. Except OT, the patients underwent conservative treatment programs with physical therapy and home treatment programs. Results : Among the three groups, the time of the first visit to the hospital was the fastest in CMT and the latest in OT. The appearance of facial asymmetry and plagiocephaly didn't show any difference between CMT and PT. The presence of asymmetric neck righting reaction was noted similarly between the two groups. The duration of the treatment was longer in the CMT group than that of the PT group. The outcomes of the treatment in CMT were not different from those of PT. Conclusions : There are no significant differences of the clinical features and the treatment results between the CMT and the PT groups except the duration of treatment. The ophthalmologic assessment is strongly recommended, if the age of an infant with torticollis is older than one year. 목 적: 소아의 사경을 근성 사경, 체위성 사경, 안성 사경으로 분류하고 각 군의 임상양상과 치료 효과를 서로 비교하고자 하였다. 방 법: 건강보험공단 일산 병원에 2000년 3월부터 2004년 7월까지 사경을 주소로 소아과와 재활의학과에 내원한 80명의 환아를 대상으로 모든 대상 환아는 이학적 검사 및 신경학적 검사를 시행하였으며 경추부 방사선과 초음파 검사를 시행하였다. 모든 환자는 선천성 근성 사경, 체위성 사경, 안성 사경으로 분류되었으며 안성 사경을 제외하고 모든 환자는 물리 치료와 가정에서 시행할 수 있는 도수 운동 치료를 받았다. 결 과: 전체 80명의 사경 환자 중 선천성 근성사경군이 48명으로 가장 많았고, 다음으로 체위성 사경군 및 안성사경군 순이었다. 부모가 이상 소견을 인식한 시기와 병원에 처음 방문한 시기는 세 군중에 선천성 근성 사경군이 가장 빨랐으며, 안성 사경군이 가장 느렸다. 사경의 분류별 평균 치료기간은 선천성 근성 사경군이 체위성 사경군에 비해 의미 있게 치료기간이 길었으며 치료결과가 불만족인 경우는 선천성 근성 사경군이 체위성 사경보다 많았으나 통계적인 의미는 없었다. 사경으로 인한 이차적인 안면비대칭이나 사두증을 보인 경우는 선천성 근성 사경군에서 더 많이 나타났지만 통계적 의미는 없었다. 신경학적 검사에서 경부정위반응의 비대칭 소견이 선천성 근성 사경군에서 19명, 체위성 사경군에서 16명으로 나타나 체위성 사경군에서 비대칭 소견이 많았으나 통계적으로 유의하지 않았다. 결 론: 체위성 사경은 선천성 근성 사경보다 치료기간이 짧은 것으로 나타났지만, 선천성 근성 사경에서 흔히 나타나는 안면부 및 두개골의 비대칭이 유사하게 나타났고 신경학적 진찰 상 자세반응의 비대칭 또한 체위성 사경에서도 나타나므로, 체위성 사경도 선천성 근성 사경에 준해서 조기에 치료하는 것이 합당하다고 여겨진다. 안성 사경은 다른 사경군에 비해 초진시기가 늦게 나타나므로 1세 이후 사경으로 병원을 찾는 경우 안과적 검사를 통해 안성 사경의 가능성을 반드시 배제해야 할 것으로 생각한다.
