본 논문에서는 온도 제어가 가능한 blackbody를 이용하여 수동형 FTIR 분광계의 radiometric calibration을 수행하고 타당성을 살펴보았다. Radiometric calibration은 분광계로 입사되는 radiance의 온도 변화에 대한 광 검출기의 파장 별 응답특성과 기기 내부에서 발생되는 온도 및 반사율에 의해 발생되는 측정 오차를 보정하여 Planck radiance로 변환하는 기법이다. 시료에 대한 calibration 과정을 수행한 스펙트럼을 spectral library와 비교한 결과, 흡수 스펙트럼의 파장 별 선폭과 상대적인 intensity가 매우 유사하게 나타났으며 입사 광원의 온도차와 비례하여 spectral intensity가 일정하게 증가됨을 확인할 수 있었다. In this paper, radiometric calibration of a FTIR spectrometer for passive remote sensing application was introduced and verified. Radiometric calibration is a significant signal processing procedure to retrieve the object radiance from the measured spectrum. The object radiance is measured and registered distorted by the detector's responsivity dependent on wavelength and instrument self-emission. Radiance of two temperature points, hot temperature and cold temperature, from a well-controlled blackbody was measured and used to obtain the scale factor and offset factor which are required for radiometric calibration. For gas phase C2H5OH. radiometric calibration was done and verified through comparison of its emission line width and intensity with the standard spectrum.

Objective : To compare the efficacy and safety of S-adenosyl-methionine (SAMe) and ibuprofen in the treatment of patients with knee osteoarthritis. Methods : Sixty patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA) were enrolled in this study. Patients received a daily oral dose of 1200mg of SAMe and 1200mg of ibuprofen for 4 weeks Treatment efficacy was evaluated with clinical parameters as Lequesne's functional index and visual analog scale (VAS) of pain. Adverse effects were monitored from patient interviews and blood sampling. Results: The treatment efficacy evaluated by clinical parameters was not different in both groups. Gastrointestinal adverse effects were more frequently observed in ibuprofen group than in SAMe. Conclusion : SAMe was equally effective to ibuprofen in efficacy and better tolerated in short term treatment of patients with knee OA.

N/A Fifteen patients underwent emergency operation using the Kobayshi procedure for the management of unrelenting esophageal variceal hemorhage. The patients were treated between Jan-1988 and Dec. 1988 in the dept. of Surgery Wonju College of Medicine. The results are as follows: 1) The operative mortality rate was 13.3% (2/15), being contributed by earlier hepatic failure and intra-abdominal hemorrhage. 2) The esophageal bleeding was controlled in all of the 15 patients. 3) Ascites was a major clinical problem after this procedure. 4) There were no esophageal stricture and anastomotic leakage. In conclusion, the Kobayashi procedure is an useful method in the emergency management of the massive esophageal variceal bleeding.

Objective: Idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIMs) are systemic autoimmune diseases characterized by infiltration of T lymphocytes, monocytes, and macrophages in muscle tissues. Interleukin-17 (IL-17), a Th17 cytokine, has potent pro-inflammatory actions and plays a role in autoimmune diseases. We investigated the expression of IL-17 in muscle tissues of patients with IIMs. Methods: We measured the IL-17 mRNA level of muscle tissues from 14 patients with IIMs (9 patients with dermatomyositis and 5 patients with polymyositis) by real-time RT-PCR and compared with controls. We also performed an immunohistochemical stain to detect IL-17 expression. Results: The expressions of IL-17 were significantly enhanced in IIMs than controls. In immunohistochemistry, IL-17 was expressed in perimysial, endomysial and perivascular infiltrating inflammatory cells. Conclusion: These results suggest that IL-17 plays a role in the immunopathogenesis of IIMs.

Objective: To investigate the expression of toll-like receptor (TLR)-2, 4 and 9 in idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIMs). Methods: The expression of TLR-2, 4 and 9 was measured by real-time RT-PCR and immunohistochemical stain (IHS) from muscle tissues in patients with IIMs and controls. Results: The expression levels of TLR-2, 4 and 9 in IIMs were significantly higher than controls. TLR-2, 4 and 9 were mainly expressed on sarcolemma of muscle fibers, perimysial vascular endothelium and infiltrating inflammatory cells in dermatomyositis, whereas, they were mainly expressed on sarcolemma of muscle fibers, destructed muscle fibers, and enodmysial infiltrating inflammatory cells in polymyositis. Conclusion: TLR-2, 4 and 9 were highly expressed in muscle tissue of IIMs. These results suggest that TLR-2, 4 and 9 play a role in pathogenesis of IIMs.

As one of the casting plans to improve the scientific inquiry ability of the students, the aims of this study are to develop and apply a basic inquiry program for the inquiry subject of Seogwipo fossil formation, and analyze the basis inquiry ability of the students to show in the inquiry activity process actually. The results obtained in 5th grade 48 elementary school students of Seogwipo-city are as follows; Students executed observing activity using an appropriate senses such as senses of vision and touch, and showed the tendency which tries to observe the form overall rather than the partial form of the fossil formation. But the ability to utilize appropriately for predicting and inferring with the facts which could depend on observing activity was low. And we found out that the misconceptions influence on inquiry activity. Therefore, to help understanding deeper for the students` basic inquiry element, it is thought that a study of the various educational guidance ways is necessary to this. The teachers also have to study the various ways to induce the scientific conception through the application of proper teaching-learning for correction of misconceptions because misconceptions have an influence on inquiry activity together. If various inquiry programs considering the regional-specific characteristics are developed to cause students` interest, students would come to participate in inquiry activity aggressively a little more.
