The venom gland of Toad contains large quantities of cardiac glycosides, and toad venom poisoning is similar to digitalis toxicity and carries a high mortality. Sometimes after ingestion of aphrodisiac pills which contain dried toad, a patient develops gastrointestinal symptoms and bradycardia, psychoneurologic symptoms. We have experienced 2 cases of toad venom intoxication, who ingested asian toads. Patients were presented to our ED with nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. The patients were peformed monitoring and conservative treatment and were fully recovered. Toad venom intoxication should be considered in patients with clinical manifestation of gastrointestinal irritation, cardiac arrhythmias, hyperkalemia, and detectable serum digoxin level without current medication of digoxin.

Objectives: Suicide is one of the important causes of death. We suppose that celebrity suicide could affect the that of population. The main object of this article is to document the effects of the media coverage following the suicide of a well-known actress and politician. Methods: From october 2007 to september 2009, we analysed suicide rate, onset time, severity of suicide attempters or intentional self-harm patients (total 1,059 persons) visited four EDs in Busan after famous person`s death (A and B). Results: After A`s suicide, suicide rate has been increased (1.35% vs 2.02%, p=0.00), after B`s death, suicide rate also has been increased (1.35 vs 1.92, p=0.00). After B`s case, proportion of admitting patients has been increased (42.2% vs 48.3%) and number of patients admitting ICU has been increased (13.2% vs 24.6%, p=0.03). Conclusions: Media should care about this results when they report suicide of famous person and we should plan for appropriate treatment and go on with study and education for suicide prevention.
중증외상팀의 운영 전후 손상환자의 응급실체류시간과 치료결과 비교

Purpose: The aim of this study was to analyze the influence of a trauma team`s management. Methods: A total of 181 patients with severe trauma were retrospectively divided into two groups. Of these 181 patients, 81 patients without a trauma team admitted between April and October 2008 were assigned to Group 1, and 100 patients with a Trauma team admitted between April and October 2009 were assigned to Group II. We compared general characteristics, the length of stay in the emergency department (ED) and treatment outcomes (24-h packed RBC transfusion, length of intensive care unit (ICU) stay, length of hospital stay, in-hospital mortality, 24-h mortality) between these two groups. Results: The length of stay in the ED was significantly reduced in Group II compared to Group I (p=0.025). No significant differences were found in mean arterial pressure, Glasgow Coma Scale, Revised Trauma Score, Injury Severity Score, in-hospital mortality and 24-h mortality between the two groups. However, Group II had a lower amount of 24-h packed RBC transfusion and a shorter length of ICU and hospital stay than Group I, although these differences were not statistically significant. Conclusion: Through the establishment of a trauma team, the length of stay in the ED can be reduced remarkably. Furthermore, the need for 24-h packed RBC transfusions and the length of stay in the ICU and hospital were found to be decreased in patients managed by a trauma team.

This paper has dealt with the three latest technologies for performance improvement of heat pipe and loop heat pipe. First, a part of the liquid in the condenser is bypassed to the evaporator in order to reduce the interface flow resistance caused by the counter flow of liquid and vapor inside the heat pipe. By applying this technology, the maximum amount of heat transfer caused by dry-out of the heat pipe was increased, and the experimental results were introduced, which improved the heat transfer performance by reducing the thermal resistance. Second, a technique of bypassing a portion of the vapor generated from the evaporator to the liquid reservoir was introduced in order to overcome the operational limit of the loop heat pipe. Through the application of the vapor bypass technology, the temperature overshoot on the evaporator wall of the loop heat pipe could be eliminated, and the heat transfer performance could be improved at high heat load range. Third, a performance prediction model of the micro heat pipe was developed. In this study, a performance prediction model for micro heat pipe to which the augmented Young-Laplace equation is applied is presented. This mathematical model has the advantage of being able to predict the shape of the phase change interface created inside the micro heat pipe more precisely than the previous model. The three latest technologies mentioned above can be studied more popularly in the future and can contribute to the technological expansion of heat pipe and loop heat pipe.

평판형 증발부와 폴리프로필렌 윅을 가지는 루프히트파이프의 과열제거에 대한 실험적 연구

루프히트파이프는 특별하게 시동하는 동안 증발부 벽 온도에 대한 과열 문제를 종종 겪는다. 평판형 증발부와 폴리프로필렌윅을 가지는 루프히트파이프의 과열문제를 해결하기 위해 증발부와 액체저장조 사이에 바이패스라인이 설치되었다. 증발부와 응축부는 40 mm (W) × 50 mm (L)의 크기를 가진다. 벽과 튜브 재료는 스테인리스 스틸이며 작동유체는 메탄올이다. 평판형 증발부에 역사다리꼴 형상의 그루브를 통하여 증가가 공급되었다. 액체 및 증기 이송관의 내부직경은 각각 2 mm와 4 mm이며, 두 라인의 길이는 각 0.5 m이다. 열부하 범위는 응축부 냉각원 온도, 10˚C를 가지는 수평기울기에 대하여 최대 90 W까지이다. 실험결과를 통하여 바이패스라인은 증발부 벽 온도에 대한 과열문제를 제거하는 효과를 얻을 수 있었다.
온도와 접촉금속이 Tricyclodecane의 열안정성에 미치는 영향

온도가 조절되는 회분식 반응기에서 온도와 접촉금속이 Exo-tricyclo[5.2.1.02,6]decane(tricyclodecane, 이하 exo-THDCP로 표기함)의 열안정도에 미치는 영향을 GC/MS로 조사하였다. 그리고 Exo-THDCP와 접촉하는 금속의 특성은 SEM-EDX로 분석하였다. 보관 연료온도 증가 실험에서 exo-THDCP의 분해는 350℃에서 시작되는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 연료접촉 금속의 경우, 스테인리스 스틸 보다 티타늄이 exo-THDCP의 분해에 미치는 영향이 작은 것으로 나타났다. In temperature controlled batch reactor, the effect of temperature and contact metals on the thermal stability of Exo-tricyclo[5.2.1.02,6]decane (tricyclodecane, exo-THDCP) were investigated by use of GC/MS. And the characteristic of metal in contact with tricyclodecane were analyzed by SEM-EDX. In fuel temperature variation test, thermal decomposition of exo-THDCP was occurred at 350℃. In case of fuel contact metals, Titanium was less effective to decomposition of exo-THDCP than stainless steel 304, 316.
